31 Day Blog Challenge

Did you enjoy my blog challenge? I did, it gave me things to think about for my blog.

Were there any in there you really liked?

Was there anything in those challenges that you didn’t like?

It’s given me a few ideas on what to do next. And there is always Pinterest to give me more ideas😉

Book Review 📖

The Rogue King (Inferno Rising) by Abigail Owen

She was spirited, resourceful, and full of surprises! I loved Kasia. She knew exactly who and what she was, she knew of the “other world” (shifters and magic) she also knew the dangers, (her mother had been killed at an early age, and had instilled the need to be wary and cautious) her mother had sent her daughters away from each other with the aid of magic, she was being hunted by a dragon king who had heard of the legend “he who mates a Phoenix will rule all the dragon houses” and he wanted Kasia’s mother. Being thwarted, he now has his sights on acquiring Kasia (he doesn’t know about her sisters)….

Brand wants justice, he wants revenge. He’s had to wait a long time for both, but with his new mission, all his hard work will soon pay off. But meeting Kasia, he doesn’t want to hand her over, he wants to keep her, and maybe just maybe, he will be able to claim his revenge and his place in dragon world.

I liked this story, Kasia and Brand were a good match. Both were alone, not trusting anyone, both looking for justice.

And we see more of the world that the dragons live in, and the “mad king” (he’s been around a long time, and if you don’t mate, you go mad and start to decompose)

Wednesday’s Post⛅️

Changed my day off at work, so went to work this morning. Had to keep reminding myself that I was off to work and not shopping😉

Still ran round like a lunatic today, making desserts, keeping the pot wash are today and keeping the salads topped up. Which is difficult enough, but when you have hardly any stock to top it up with, that’s even it gets tricky. And throw in a couple of odd and rude customers (“got any beetroot?” I got asked several times, “no, sorry” I replied, “we ran out earlier) and then there was is gentleman in a suit who wanted “fresh bread rolls” told him it was a 10 min wait, he said “can’t you microwave them?” 🤪and then kids that like to use the spoon or tongs as a personal spoon 🤢if I washed them once today, I must have washed them a dozen times!!!

How was your Wednesday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 31)

Weird Quirk of Mine …..

I wear strappy vest tops under T-shirt’s. In the winter, and in the summer, and they are usually tucked into my trousers.

I eat chips with mayonnaise.

I can’t eat a sandwich or salad if tomato has been in or on it. (I can taste the juice) 😛

Do you have a quirk?

Tuesday’s Post ☔️

Delivery when it’s raining is not a fun job to do!! And add in the fact that the only other person in hates doing the delivery, and will do everything they can to get out of it, made it slow going this morning!! But I did it😁and then got on with putting the salad cart out, and begin the day’s prep.

My nephew moved out today, so I spent the best part of the evening, cleaning, washing and rearranging the skate room back to how it was. And I got to make a little room in the library, so crafting can begin again😁

Weather has been horrible all day, nothing but rain, from light drizzle, to a very heavy shower.

How was your Tuesday?

Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

Traitor Games (Tarnished Hero’s book 3) by Sidney Bristol

Noah White has done a lot of bad things for the CIA, but this time they’ve crossed the line. He knows the kill order he’s been given is a set-up and the intended target is another covert agent. They’ve finally found a line Noah won’t cross. Not with her.
Lillian Matthews is living in the crosshairs and she knows it. While her friends are spread out over the globe gathering intelligence on a rogue covert agency, it’s her job to keep them all connected. Only now she’s the target. And her unlikely ally is the last man she’d expect. Lillian will have to make the biggest sacrifice of her life, because Noah will stop at nothing to protect her.

My Review…..
I read book two in this series. You don’t need to read any of the previous books. But as there are references to previous book characters, it does help to have a little background. Book one was Rand and Sarah, book two (the one I read) was Andy and Carol (assassin games)
Noah is good at his job. But lately he’s grown weary of it all. And finding out there is an agency hiding undercover in the CIA was a blow, and a little worrying. And now he has a new target (a clean up job) he’s worried that it’s going to get messy ……
And if he doesn’t kill her, someone else will. At least he wouldn’t make her suffer, it would be quick and clean. But he can’t do it, so to find out who wants her dead, he’s going to have to step in and protect her.
Lillian is being stalked, she’s known it for a while, but why? What could they possibly gain from her death? And she knows it will be her death. And when her would be protector makes himself known, Lillian is confused, and extremely wary. He says he’s there to kill her, but he doesn’t want to, so what does he want?
Together Lillian and Noah don’t have much time to figure out who is trying to kill her and why. Each thought the other wasn’t interested in a romantic way, and with miscommunication and jumping to the wrong conclusions about each other, they don’t seem to be on the same page. But both are aware of the attraction growing between them.
So who is trying to kill Lillian? And can she really trust Noah? He could be playing a bluff, and when her guard is down, that’s when he will strike and kill her.
The book is very fast paced and full of action. The characters work well together, and we get to see previous characters come together to help Noah and Lillian. There are also other forces working to silence Lillian forever. So who do you trust ?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 30)

Favourite Comfort Food …..

Has to be ham and chicken pasta in a cheese sauce.

Ham and Cheese Pasta Bake Recipe

  • Prep time: 10 minutes
  • Cook time: 35 minutes
  • Serves 4 to 6

  • 12 ounces fusilli pasta
  • Salt for pasta water
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced,
  • 4 Tbsp flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream or double cream
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper (more to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or a mix of dried oregano, thyme, and basil)
  • 3/4 teaspoons salt (more to taste)
  • 3 ounces (about 1 cup, packed) shredded or grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 ounces (about 1 cup, packed) shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 10 ounces diced ham (about 2 cups)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh green onion greens or chives

1 Make pasta: Put a big pot of salted water onto boil on high heat for the pasta (4 quarts, 2 Tbsp salt). While the pasta water is heating, prep the other ingredients.

Once the water has reached a rolling boil, add the pasta and stir so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Let the water return to a rolling boil and cook, uncovered, for 9 to 10 minutes, until the pasta is “al dente”, cooked through but still slightly firm to the bite.

2 Make roux: Melt the butter in a large (3 to 4 quart), thick-bottomed pot on medium heat. Add the minced garlic. Let the garlic sizzle for a few seconds. Add the flour and whisk so that any lumps are dissolved. Let the roux (flour and butter) bubble and cook for a minute or two.

3 Make the sauce: Slowly add the milk and cream, a quarter cup at a time, whisking until incorporated after each addition. Increase the heat to medium high. Add ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg and ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper. (You may want to increase these later to taste.) Add ½ teaspoon of Italian seasoning.

Add half of the shredded Mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, whisking until melted and incorporated into the sauce.

Add 3/4 teaspoon of salt (again, you may want to increase this to taste).

Stir in 1 cup of water (can use pasta cooking water if you want).

4 Preheat oven to 400°F.

5 Combine pasta with sauce, ham, parsley, onion greens: Drain the cooked pasta and add it to the sauce. Add the ham. Add the chopped parsley and onion greens or chives. Gently stir to combine. Taste, and add more nutmeg, salt, pepper, or Italian seasoning to taste.

6 Bake: Transfer the pasta mixture to an oven-proof casserole dish (if you are using a Dutch oven to make the sauce, there is no need to transfer to another dish). Sprinkle the top with the remaining cheese. Bake in the oven at 400°F for 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned on top.

What’s your favourite comfort food?

Monday’s Post ⛅️

Having a few issues at home at the moment. My nephew was staying with us. But after falling out, we’ve asked him to move out. So my mind hadn’t really been on work. I felt that the gossips were chatting about what happened, and I really didn’t want to get involved, all I want to do was go to work and work. So I ignored people, not really thinking about the effect it would have on others (people who don’t understand) so I need to think before I act. I could have just told people I didn’t want to chat about it. So a lesson learned today.

Weather ended up being rather warm today. So walk home chatting to my friend was a welcome.

How was your Monday?

Sunday’s Post ⛅️

Went to see my granddaughter dance today.

She’s 5 going on 15😉she loves to dance. She had us in stitches a while back, she told her mum she wanted to be a pole dancer!! She was with her nanny at the time, and was dancing round a lamppost, singing she was a pole dancer😂

She did so very well. She had a lovely time.

What did you get up to this Sunday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 28)

Last Time I Cried …..

I haven’t cried for a while. But my last big cry was the day my mum died😢 watching her slip away was hard. Watching her struggle to survive was harder, so in a way it was a blessing when she went.

When was the last time you cried?

Saturday’s Post 🌦

Weather couldn’t make its mind up today. Delivery driver was already waiting this morning, no one in the restaurant this morning, so I had to turn on the lights and do the delivery myself!! Music on loud (if I’m up, then so is everyone else😉 we finally get a few people in, but I’ve unloaded my then (so I went and grabbed a coffee for myself and the driver) ☕️ from there on it was just rush rush rush!!! But I did my salads and it went out on time😇 I was pretty pleased with the amount I got done today, especially as I had a few “children” in (staff, when they start, they start) spending far too much time fooling around.

So today, 4 o’clock could not come quick enough. Walked home and started on the housework as soon as I got in.

A few wash loads done already. A blog sorted, and a review book had read. Yay go me 😉

How was your Saturday?

Random thought 🎧

Downloaded this and I’ve been listening to it for a few days. Some really good tunes.

I have Spotify on my phone and it’s great, you can download so many albums. Or individual songs and make your own playlists.

Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

William MacGregor will lie, spy, and happily die to protect his clan from their greatest enemy. But when he kidnaps the wrong woman, he triggers the very events he’d been working so hard to prevent. And puts everyone in danger.

Rose Thatcher will do anything to protect her lady and return them both safely to English soil. But the damn Highlander who snatched her off the docks has done nothing but get in her way. She’d love to ditch the bastard, but if they want to save their respective loved ones, they are going to have to stay together.

Somewhere along the grueling journey to Scotland, their constant bickering turns into something more. Something worth fighting for. But how can an English lady’s maid, who longs for the safe, comfortable life she had in London, find love with a Highlander who can’t wait to wipe England’s dust off his feet? If they can’t defeat the enemy they accidentally led home, they might not live long enough to find out.

Each book in the MacGregor Lairds series is STANDALONE:
* How to Lose a Highlander
* How to Ensnare a Highlander
* How to Blackmail a Highlander
* How to Forgive a Highlander

My Review….

I’d read the third book in the series, (How to blackmail a Highlander) and enjoyed it. So I started the kindle up and jumped in ….

William loves his clan, there is nothing he wouldn’t do to keep them all safe. So with that in mind, he plans to kidnap a lady, but grabs the wrong one, and so the plot goes from bad to worse, she is nothing but a pain in her arse, but he is drawn to her, and when they aren’t fighting, he is rather intrigued with her (even though she drives him mad!)

Rose is a lady’s maid (someone who dresses and accompany’s a lady, like a companion but at the Ladies beck and call) and truly loves her charge, there isn’t much she wouldn’t do to protect her, and after she’s kidnapped, Rose is worried about her lady even more. And this “man” has a lot to account for. How dare he do this, her temper gets her into trouble a few times, but when they aren’t taking shots at each other, she recognises Will’s love for his clan and his good intentions.

But what does this mean for our couple? William longs for Scotland, and Rose wants to return to London. Is this just a “Highland Fling” ? Or will they be able to compromise?

The book runs alongside book 3, it has almost the same timeline. It’s well written and very detailed.

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 27)

What makes me happy, always…..

My family and my best friend. Spending time with those special people, always makes me happy.

Music up to a certain extent makes me happy, If I’m at home on my own, I’ll put music on the stereo or my headphones, and I’ll have a mad 15 minutes of dancing, that sometimes works.

Reading, is my escape, so to a certain extent that makes me happy too. Getting a newly anticipated book from an author gives me a happy feeling. And discussing it with my friend (from America, she reads a lot of the same stuff) makes me smile, and when we set each other challenges, that makes me laugh.

What makes you happy? And does it always work?

Friday’s Post ⛅️

At last, the weather today was a little cooler. Made the walk to and from work a little easier. After prepping salads it was potwash and cleaning. It’s delivery tomorrow so I needed to make sure the fridges are ready for tomorrow.

Will we get more rain or even a thunderstorm tonight? It might bring the weather down a little more.

How was your Friday?

Thursday’s Post 🥵

The hottest day in the UK today. Delivery was a quick affair, throwing things (not literally) into the freezer before it starts to defrost. I’ll put that away later.

The kitchen was a nightmare to work in, the only good thing, I work round the back, away from the ovens, so it’s not as hot.

Hoping for rain to bring a little relief, we got a little around 6pm, but not a lot and not really enough to bring the temperature down.

Friday is suppose to be cooler, I do hope so, that walk to and from work is a hot one.

How was your Thursday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 25)

Best Physical Features …..

My smile I’ve been told it’s a really nice one.

My hands I use to paint my nails a d wear a few rings, but cooking with food or prepping salads, it makes it difficult to wear them both.

My legs, I do wear a lot of jeans and leggings, but they do look good😂

What’s your best physical feature(s) ?

Wednesday’s Post☀️

Oh that was a hot day!!! Popped up early to tidy Kim’s grave. Then into Morrisons to grab salad stuff for dinner.

Lunch was with a good friend and we watched “The Ritual” it was a little confusing (we kept having a few flashbacks) but it was a good creepy movie, with a strange ending🤨

What did you get up to this Wednesday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 24)

A Difficult Time in my Life …..

That was probably the time I lost my daughter. It has left such a whole in my heart and life.

She was born 6 weeks premature. And after tests found out she had only 20% kidney function. Also a cleft palate. (We were lucky that it was only the roof of her mouth, and not the lip too.

It took us a while to get her home, the biggest baby in the premature unit, her temperature wouldn’t stabilise, she wouldn’t feed properly and she would get an infection at the slightest thing.

But we got her home eventually. Then she got a really bad urine infection, and we were rushed up to Great Ormond St. Hospital. It took us almost 3 months to get her home.

This was then our life ……. she’d get infections. We’d have to go to the hospital, I’d stay there with her. She’d get better, we’d come home.

There were other problems …… She had problems walking. She had a learning age of half her age.

As she grew older, her problems increased. She had numerous operations on her palate. She had a kidney transplant. She also had the occasional seizure. And through it all she kept her smile and cheeky disposition.

In August of 2013, she developed a cold, which turned into Pneumonia, double pneumonia, the para-influenza. She was transferred to a London hospital after they performed a technic with an ECMO machine.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO), also known as extracorporeal life support (ECLS), is an extra corporeal technique of providing prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to persons whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange or perfusion to sustain life. The technology for ECMO is largely derived from cardiopulmonary bypass, which provides shorter-term support with arrested native circulation.

This intervention has mostly been used on children, but it is seeing more use in adults with cardiac and respiratory failure. ECMO works by removing blood from the person’s body and artificially removing the carbon dioxide and oxygenating red blood cells.  Generally, it is used either post-cardiopulmonary bypass or in late stage treatment of a person with profound heart and/or lung failure, although it is now seeing use as a treatment for cardiac arrest in certain centers, allowing treatment of the underlying cause of arrest while circulation and oxygenation are supported.

She amazed the doctors and nurses with her resilience. Her sense of humour often had us in stitches. But with her being on a breathing machine, it was hard for her to talk. Nether the less she found a way around it.

But in January 2014, she lost the battle, her body couldn’t take it, and she developed sepsis.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to infection causes injury to its own tissues and organs. Common signs and symptoms include fever, increased heart rate, increased breathing rate, and confusion. There may also be symptoms related to a specific infection, such as a cough with pneumonia, or painful urination with a kidney infection. In the very young, old, and people with a weakened immune system, there may be no symptoms of a specific infection and the body temperature may be low or normal, rather than high. Severe sepsis is sepsis causing poor organ function or insufficient blood flow. Insufficient blood flow may be evident by low blood pressure, high blood lactate, or low urine output. Septic shock is low blood pressure due to sepsis that does not improve after fluid replacement.

She died a week before her 21st birthday.

The death of anyone you love is hard, but the death of a child (and she was the youngest) is not something you should not have to go through.

It’s almost 6 years, and it’s just as fresh as the day it happened. But with time, you smile more, you laugh more, and you remember her without always crying.

So that’s my most difficult time in my life.

Tuesday’s Post☀️

One of those days today …..

We had a team meeting this morning, so it was an early start. Get to work, and everyone is outside, it’s not long till the meeting, but no one is moving indoors!!

We finally get the meeting underway, and it’s ok, until the new manager asks if there are any questions….well, that just opens up a whole world of trouble. There are a few people who love to chat, and love the sound of their own voices. And before you know it, they’ve lost control and half an hour.

Finally the meeting is done, and we need to finish putting away the delivery. So it’s done, but now we have to rush around and try to get ready for lunch time service.

Oh and then …… we get a visit from the Health and safety board (you just couldn’t write this stuff) so the temporary kitchen manager has to follow the officer around (and then a meeting to discuss the findings) I’m then roped in to help on starters 😉 so I’m helping on starters, trying to prep the salads, and do a little potwash (Tuesday is usually a quiet day) I kid you not, I think I met myself several times😉and being a really hot day, I must have drunk buckets of iced water.

Looking forward to my day off tomorrow.

How was your Tuesday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 23)

Pet Peeves …..

People chatting in the cinema when the film is on.

People with flip flops on (hate feet)

People who eat with their mouth open (don’t need to see what your eating thanks)

People who cut toe nails anywhere but the bathroom (the amount of times I’ve tread on a clipping going from the bedroom to bathroom.

Toes or toe nails that hang over the end of the flip flops.

Do you have a pet Peeve? If so, what is it?

Monday’s Post 🌤

Monday at work was interesting…. hardly any stock to make up salads!!! So it was cross finger time and hoping it lasts till the end of service. I was hoping my manager would pop out and buy more supplies, but I was still waiting when I clocked out at 4!!!

So Tuesday morning we have delivery, let’s hope I have plenty in😉

How was your Monday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 22)

10 Favourite Songs ……

  1. Cars by Snow Patrol (This is mine and my best friends song)
  2. Dancing Queen by ABBA (my daughter’s favourite song) I can’t listen to it, but it’s a favourite.
  1. Club Tropicana by Wham (one of my first records I brought)
Diamonds by Rhiannon (love this song, it’s a song for the car)
Faith by George Michael (it’s a catchy tune, and it’s one of my favourites you the artist)
How long will I love you by Ellie Goulding (I find this one moving, I think of all the people I’ve lost, but also the people here with me still)
  1. Rock DJ by Robbie Williams (another of my daughter’s favourites, we use to do the moves, it makes me smile)
  2. Bring me to life by Evanescence (I listen to this when I’m reading, it’s a powerful tune)
  3. Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj (an upbeat tune I dance to)
Saturday Night by Wigfield (And you have to love cheesy pop with actions) 😉

My music is an eclectic mix, and if I’m going for a walk, I like fast paced music. If I’m reading then I usually try for a mixture, and if the music matches the words, then I see a film emerging in my mind.

What’s your favourite music to listen to? Your welcome to share😁

I’m hoping these music videos work, if they do it’s a great tool to use. I see future music blogs 😁

  • 31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 21)

    Something I Miss ……

My daughter, every single day. In fact before I full awake, I still expect her to shout out for breakfast or can she play on her phone!!!

The death of a child is so hard. You have these plans for your children. And she’ll never achieve them now.

I miss my childhood….. it seemed such an innocent time, no worries about bills and what’s going on in the world. Playing in the sun all day, snowball fights and building snowmen in the winter.

So that’s the thing(s) I miss the most.

    What do you miss?

    Saturday’s Post ⛅️

Weather was very bipolar today, we start off cold and wet, and by the evening we’ve had sun and showers, and now it’s a clear warm evening 🤨

Delivery was a tiny affair today, two pallets, and it was put away before I got there😁 so that made my job a whole lot easier today. Busy day at work, thinking it may been the bad weather that brought the guests into the restaurant. We were really busy, and I was kept on my toes with preparing and replenishing the salad cart.

    How was your Saturday?

    Book Review 📱

    Steel Coyote by Beth Williamson

The universe is a tough place to make it as a female cargo ship captain, and Remington Hawthorne fights every day to scrape by. A sketchy deal goes south, and although she doesn’t want anyone else to touch her ship, she’s forced to accept help from the stranger who calls himself Max Fletcher. He’s hot. And he’s trouble. Big trouble. But she’s out of time, out of money, and every crooked cartel is on her tail.

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 20)

Where I want to be in 10 years ….

Well that will make me almost 60!!! So I would have liked to have given up work. But as that probably won’t happen (unless I win the lottery)

A larger library😉 with a separate craft room.

Seeing my son settled into his own place (he’s house sharing at the moment) and happy.

Where my blog is sought after by authors who want me to interview them for my blog, and ask me to read their books😉

Those are a few things I’d like to see in 10 years time. What about you? Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

    Friday’s Post 🌧

Friday ….. so here’s a drink to start your weekend. Cheers 🍻

Oh my days!!! I felt like I was triplets at one point🤨not only did I do my salads, I got to help on starters and desserts!!! It was so busy, and with fewer staff on, it was all hands on deck!!! It made the day go really quick, and before you know it, it’s time to get ready to go home.

Weather wasn’t nice today, we had showers all day long.

    How was your Friday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 19)

    My Worst Habits …..

    I’m stubborn.

    I’m bossy.

    I’m a hoarder.

I’ve been told I like to be always right (i’m not in the wrong) 😉

    And I don’t like confrontation.

I don’t like to give my opinion (just in case it upsets people)

I’m sure others could tell you more😉what are your worst habits?

    Thursday’s Post 🌤

Delivery day. And to make a change, we actually had a small delivery, with only what we needed on it😉so let’s hope this continues, until we actually have a walk-in fridge and freezers with a decent amount of food.

With a management crisis, it’s all hands on deck. It made the day go quicker, but there were a few short tempers!!!

    How was your Thursday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 18)

What am I Afraid of? ……

When my kids were younger, I was always afraid of dying and leaving them alone. (Especially my daughter, she had learning difficulties and the mental age far below her actual age)

Use to be scared of spiders, but now they don’t phase me, I grab a glass and capture them, and throw them out without a worry now.

As a kid I was scared of the dark, as I got older, that fear is gone. I can sleep without a light on, I don’t panic if we are away and we have no light. It’s been an ongoing thing, I just pushed myself a little at a time.

I don’t like scary rides. Terrified I’ll fall out. Not sure I’ll ever conquer that one.

I’m not too keen on flying (but that’s a fear I’m overcoming) yes I use a plane to go on holiday, but for a long time, I stayed away and concentrated on keeping the plane up (irrational, yes, but it was something I did) I can actually look out of the plane window now, and I’m hooked, the views I see, are breathtaking.

So what are you scared of?

    Wednesday’s Post 🌤

Day off today. Grabbed a quick coffee this morning with my friend, then caught up with her later for lunch and a scary movie at hers. Didn’t stop as long as I usually do, as I was off to pick my granddaughter up from school.

Got to spend some time with Grace today. We watched tv, did reading and practise with her words. Bathed and read her a story, before setting off for home. She is such a cheeky monkey.

    How was your Wednesday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 17)

    Favourite Childhood Book …..

Has to be The Secret Garden by Frances

Frances Burnett Hodgson’s novel The Secret Garden is both intriguing and uplifting. It is regarded as one of the best children’s books written in the twentieth century.

Mary Lennox, a sickly ten year old girl, adrift in the world after both her mother and father die is sent to Yorkshire to live with an uncle whom she has never met, at his isolated house, Misselthwaite Manor. Initially Mary is seen as a rude, aggressive and selfish child. She dislikes her new home and the people living in it. But now the scene is set for her transformation and the introduction of the author’s engaging theme of rejuvenation and renewal. In exploring the grounds Mary finds the key to the locked garden which is neglected and overrun with weeds. She sets her mind to bringing it back to life. In doing so, Mary finds a purpose and an excitement in her lonely existence. However, apart from the garden, there are other secrets to be revealed at Misselthwaite Manor such as the strange cries in the night and the identity of Colin, a disabled boy, whom she discovers in the hidden bedroom.

The popularity of this novel bears witness to its universal appeal and its timeless hold on the imagination.

I loved this book as a kid, I don’t know how many times I read it.

    What’s your favourite childhood book?

    Tuesday’s Post 🌤

Strange day at work today. It was delivery day, it arrives (yet another huge delivery)🙄 why they continue to order so much I don’t know. But it gets put away. No breakfast as we don’t have enough chef’s at the moment. So I got on putting delivery away, and sorting the prep for the salad cart. Only to be told, lunch on hold, the cellar has spring a leak and we need to call a plumber!!! We eventually get going at 2ish, no guests till almost 2.30!!! So everyone is on a go slow!!! Just wondering if july this year is jinxed?!?!

But on the plus, I got to have a coffee and chat with a friend. It’s lovely sat in the pub grabbing a coffee before work. I’m going to miss it when the bad weather sets back in.

    How was your day?

    Monday’s Post ☁️

    Oh boy what a day!!!

It started well. I managed a coffee and a chat with my friend. Going to work was ok, it was when I got to work …..

We had no chef!!! The rota had been changed without telling anyone ….. so no breakfast!!! So I spent the next few hours cleaning!!! Again🙄and with issues concerning the management it just went from bad to worse!!! No lunch either!!! But we were getting ready to open for dinner. And for the next week or two, breakfast is off the menu. We are concentrating on lunch and dinners. My hours don’t really change, but I may be doing a Sunday once in a while🤪

    How was your Monday?

    Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

Craved by her Cougar (Cougar Creek Mates) book 4 by Felicity Heaton

For the last twenty years, Cobalt has burned with a need of one female, a beautiful raven-haired cougar who captured his heart the moment he set eyes on her. His position as pride protector has been a blessing at past mating gatherings, keeping females away, but this time it feels like the worst of curses, because the female who has bewitched him so thoroughly is taking part for the first time and all he can do is watch as males battle for her.
As much as she hates the way her mother controls everything in her life, Ember is thankful for it as she constantly turns away suitors, unaware of the pain she’s sparing Ember from with every male she rejects. Every male who isn’t the gorgeous blond with darkness in his eyes and an easy smile she burns for with an intensity that scares her, awakens feelings in her that have her verging on doing something reckless. Damaged goods he might be, dangerous and unpredictable, but with every contest over her that pulls her closer to her doom, she “grows more determined to follow her heart, no matter the consequences.
With every fight over the right to Ember, the tethers on Cobalt’s feelings twist and threaten to snap, a torment he cannot bear and one that has him willing to risk it all, because a single kiss would make even the harshest punishment worth it. He would die for one moment with her… his fated mate.

    My Review……

Cobalt is on edge, he doesn’t know how much longer he can keep it together. The need to fight is a constant companion, it burns through him. He needs to tell his big brother, and he needs to tell him soon. And the cause …… his fated mate!!! This year she has matured enough to go through her first needing (a female cougar is ready to breed or mate) and he can’t do a damn thing about it!!!! (He’s part of the security team, so no fun for him)

Ember has come (unwillingly) to the yearly cougar meeting place, her mother drags her there year after year. And this year she is old enough to participate….. but that is not what she wants, she wants a certain cougar. And this year might be her year. If only he’d give her a sign.

Faced with so many males fighting for Ember’s attention, Cobalt is always on edge, to anyone looking at him, he looks cool and detached, but he’s from it, add the fact he’s lost his business, and whispers about him being a loose cannon, he feels all eyes are on him, just waiting for him to fail. So how can he ever hope to be good enough for his mate, his only hope is to speak to his brother and ask for help.

When Ember finally tells her mother she won’t participate in the challenge anymore, she hopes this sends a message to Colbalt, she wants him and only him, but will he listen?

I liked this story. After losing both his parents to a battle started by humans, Colbolt has lived with being a failure (he couldn’t save his parents, he almost lost his baby brother in that battle too) so his temper and patience has slowly eroded away. Finding out your mate is 30 years younger than you, could t have helped, and then watching her being paraded around like a piece of meat was hard. He never felt he was good enough for Ember.
Ember was just as bad, letting her mother make all her decisions was easier as a child, but as an adult, she should have said something earlier.

Will Ember be strong enough to tell Colbalt that she wants him? And will he finally be able to claim his mate? But time is running out, what will they do?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 15)

    Timeline of my Day ….

most of my days are the same, so I thought I’d do a work day, then a day off (bear in mind, my days off do vary, it’s not the same every day off)

    Work Day ……

I get up anywhere between 6.00-6.30, I’ll read before I go out for a walk. I grab a quick coffee and a chat with a friend, then it’s back home to sort myself out for work. Walking to work with my headphones on, I’ll chat to a friend (makes the walk go quicker) if it’s not a delivery day (Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday) then I’ll start prepping my salads straight away. I’ll clean both my fridges, and load up for the evening staff. If it’s quiet I’ll help on potwash or the dessert area (I’ve also been known to put a few burgers on the grill) if the waitresses are busy, I’ll go clear a few tables. Then it’s time to change, clock out and walk home. A quick coffee before i talk to my sister, (or leave her a message) then a phone call to a dear friend. Before you know it, it’s time to make dinner, wash it up, then grab an hour to listen to music or read (and start another review) a phone call, and then it’s time to grab a shower.

    Day Off ……

I don’t always get up early on my days off (I’ll be awake) I’ll read in bed before going for a quick walk.

Home and a quick tidy up, then out the door (I’ll either visit my daughters grave, or go into town) my friend and I will meet up in town or hers (we usually watch a scary movie together) I like to pick up her son (we like to catch up, and it gives her a break from the school run) after dropping him off I’ll either pop into shop for dinner or visit my daughter, if I’ve not done it in the morning)

Sunday’s I usually spend with family catching up, or housework🤨then if I’ve got time, I’ll tidy up my blog, catch up with a few reviews. And put the washing away.

So…… that’s a timeline of my day. How do you spend your day?

So that’s a timeline of my day.

How do you spend your day?

    Sunday’s Post ☁️

Day off, so we went to visit my granddaughter. Putting washing out on the line, before I go out, I’m hoping it doesn’t rain. Popped up to visit my daughters grave.

Spent the day playing schools, in her best school teachers voice, Grace told me to sit on the floor and start colouring in😊she is such a bossy thing.

    How was your Sunday?

    Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

Courted by the Cougar (Cougar Creek Mates) book 3 by Felicity Heaton.

Flint is one alpha shifter determined to remain a bachelor… until a beautiful doctor with a surprising secret walks into Cougar Creek.

Madness is sweeping through Cougar Creek, and Flint wants no part of it. The fever has two of his brothers in love already, and Flint is damned if he’s giving up the bachelor life to tie himself to one female, but when a perimeter sweep has him running into an exotic and enthralling beauty who rouses his instincts as a cougar shifter and a male, the hunt is on.

All Yasmin is interested in is making sure her friend, Ivy, is safe, but the alluring black-haired man with a wicked smile she meets on the path to the creek has her thinking about other things. When an incident at Cougar Creek leads to her revealing a secret, and Flint’s persistence pushes her to a rash decision, her entire world is in danger of being turned upside down.

With the gathering in full swing, and males determined to prove their worth to Yasmin, Flint discovers he’s not immune to the madness sweeping through the creek, because he’ll do whatever it takes to claim victory and win Yasmin’s heart… no matter how dangerous it is.

    Books in this series…..
Book 1: Claimed by her Cougar
Book 2: Captured by her Cougar
Book 3: Courted by her Cougar
Book 4: Craved by her Cougar

    My Review……

Flint is laughing at his brothers, two of them are totally under the thumbs of their mates, sure they look happy and content, but why tie yourself to one female. Flint intends to stay single forever.

Yasmin is concerned for her friend Ivy, she has heard from her, but Yasmin wants to make sure, so she’s off to the forest to check up on her friend.

Flint stumbles upon Yasmin and is intrigued, she isn’t a cougar, so she’s fair game, maybe he can flirt and and have a little fun whilst she’s visiting Ivy. But she’s not interested, she’s all about her friend, checking that Rath hasn’t kidnapped her, and isn’t keeping her against her will. She hasn’t got time for a muscle bound caveman. He is cute, but she knows he’s only up for a fling, and that’s not Yasmin’s thing.

The more time Flint spends around Yasmin, the more he admires and wants her, he’s worried he’s falling for the same ailment both his brothers have fallen too. But surely that won’t happen to him? She’s just refusing him, all cats like the chase, that’s all it is…..

There is more to Yasmin than meets the eye. Flint needs to work it out, she frustrates him at every turn, and now other cougars are noticing Yasmin, his cat wants to mark and mate her, make her HIS, but there is something holding her back, Flint just needs to work out what it is.

This is the third book in the four book series. Not really necessary to read in order, but as each cougar male falls for his female, we’ve seen the storylines progress, so in my opinion, you should read them, it does make sure when you read them.

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 14)

    Whats in my Handbag ….

As you can see I have butterflies all over my bag😉 I have a penguin attached to the bag.

Inside ….. my headphones, my purse, tissues, mints, a coin purse, body spray, a little purse that holds my book store cards. A small torch, several pens, and a note book.

What do you have in yours?

    Saturday’s Post 🌤

Had a helper today. Delivery went away really fast. And she sorted through the fridges. It’s made such a difference, but we will see how long it lasts (rest of the staff will find it a problem keeping it tidy)🙄

Hung a wash load out this morning. And one I got back from work it was off to go food shopping. Went up to visit my daughters grave. Then back home to start the rest of the washing.

It’s lovely sitting out in the garden, the only downside ….. screaming kids and the smell of BBQ’s 🤢not a fan, don’t like the taste or the burnt bits all over my food thanks.

    How was your Saturday?

Saving the Pack ( The Woodlands Pack) book 3 by Amelia Shaw

I’ve been shunned by men for years… And now I’m pregnant to an Alpha wolf and the bear shifters I live with, have sentenced me to death.
I was born to a family of bear shifters…. or that was what I believed.

But it turns out it was all a lie.

How did I find out? When it was time to find a mate.

No-one wanted me… they all said I smell strange to them. Wrong.

So I drowned my sorrows at a bar in Little River and met a wolf shifter.

It was meant to be one-night-stand until I found myself pregnant.

Now the bears want me dead and I must find the Alpha wolf who gave me my baby.

But the Alpha is not alone. He’s one of a three wolf pack… and miracle upon miracle, his Beta and Omega want me too.

Will they let bears follow through with their punishment, or will the triad of super sexy wolves save me?
This story is a standalone novella set in the Woodlands Pack world, can be read in or out of order.
A steamy Reverse Harem wolf shifter romance with no cheating and a guaranteed super sweet, happily ever after.

For readers who love Alpha men, and women who fall hard and fast.

    My review …….
Celeste had only ever known hurt and rejection. So she was use to it, but it still came as a shock when the bears she thought of as family passed a sentence of death onto her. (She had cooked and cleaned and was practically their slave, but she still thought of them as family) so she’s gotten a little drunk a few months ago, so she’d met a stranger and had sex with him, and yes she’s gotten pregnant by said stranger, but that didn’t mean she was to die!! And what about her poor little baby? It wasn’t their fault, so Celeste did what any sensible female would do…. she ran!!!!
Tayte is the Alpha of this little triad. He met a sweet little human in a bar a few months ago, but was too drunk to realise he had his fated mate in his arms. But now he has her, and she’s pregnant. He just needs to keep her safe from the bears that will surely try to take her back!! Over his dead body, his little pack will keep her safe, and if need be, the larger pack he lives with will come to his aid if need be. But why did the bears take her in as a child? Did they know she was meant to be a mate to a wolf? The bears and wolves have never really gotten on, but to keep her away from them, did they have some ulterior motive? As Alpha of this group, he needs to find out, and fast!!
Dane is the sweet omega, he’s use to being the caregiver, the homemaker (although cooking isn’t his strongest point, he’s happy if his little pack is happy.) So when Celeste comes on the scene, yes he’s happy his family is complete, but having his mate already pregnant with the alphas child, Dane is a little insecure as to his role in the pack now, what if she doesn’t want him? What’s he to do?
Sam is Tayte’s Beta, the second in command, but with Celeste in the triad now, all manner of feelings are being stirred up, jealousy that it’s the alphas baby (with a triad it could be anyone’s baby, so all will have a vested interest) nerves, what if Tayte and Celeste don’t want to be in a triad? And hurt, Celeste didn’t even seem to worry when he and Dane left the bedroom. But he does know he will do everything in his power to keep her safe, she may not want him, but he’s bonded to her already, he would give his life up for her.
Finding their mate was great, finding out she was already pregnant with their alpha’s baby, not so great, Sam and Dane felt a little left out, what is Celeste only wanted them because they came as a triad? What if their Alpha didn’t want to share Celeste?
This book was a little different from the others, Celeste already knew about the shifter world, what she didn’t know was that she was fated to be a wolf mate and not a bear mate. With the other two books in this trilogy the human females were unaware there were shifters in the world. So they took a little more convincing they were mates to three wolf shifters.
I did find it a little harder to connect with this triad and their mate, only because of the instant love Dane and Sam had for Celeste (with the other two books it was a little slower in forming) also some of the sex scenes seemed a little forced (a good story doesn’t always need loads of unnecessary sex)  but I did like the fact we had more info on why the bears were trying to find and keep human females away from the wolf packs. And I enjoyed catching up with the other two triads from previous books.

    Favourite Quote …..

I don’t really have a favourite quote. So looking through Pinterest, I started my quest…..

    Keep your head high
    Your heart light
    And set down that
Which is not yours to carry ….

    If you want to fly

    You have to give up

    What brings you down …..

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”

“Positive thinking is powerful thinking. If you want happiness, fulfillment, success and inner peace, start thinking you have the power to achieve those things. Focus on the bright side of life and expect positive results.

Claiming their Mate (Woodland Packs Book 2) by Amelia Shaw

I have the worst luck with men… But this takes the cake.
I HATE my name. Nevaeh… For the uninitiated, that’s Heaven spelled backwards.
My parents were hippies… or that’s my excuse for them. Trailer trash is probably closer to the truth. And despite my weird childhood. Nothing beats this. I’ve entered the twilight zone.Seriously. With three men who turn into WOLVES…And they say I’m their destiny…But they don’t realise the truth. Not yet. I’m poison. Cursed. And my ex-boyfriend, turned stalker is a biker… with a pack of his own. They won’t stand next to me if he threatens them… or will they? When will I wake up?
Or if this is real… will I end up like Claire?
Pregnant and mated to three men who will take down anyone in their path?

This story is a standalone novella set in the Woodlands Pack world, can be read in or out of order.
A steamy Reverse Harem wolf shifter romance with no cheating and a guaranteed super sweet, happily ever after.
For readers who love Alpha men, and women who fall hard and fast.

    My Review …….
This story starts with Grayson talking to Claire the human that belongs to part of the pack, she belongs to the triad of wolves (Dexter, Taylor and Jay) in book one. He wants to know how to look for his mate, and when will he know her?
Aaron is the beta of the group, Grayson’s second in command. Not as fast as Grayson but just as deadly. Prepared to protect his mate. He longs to come home to someone, to care and cook for her.
Brad is the Omega of the trio, he’s the homemaker, the caretaker of the pack. He wants a mate to care for, and children would be the icing on the cake.
Grayson is the Alpha, born to protect and provide for his pack and future mate. Now he knows there are human women out there compatible with their wolves, Grayson wants a mate for his little pack.
Neveah is married to her job. She loves being a nurse, and doesn’t think twice about pulling a double shift.
Visiting her friend Claire (we meet her in a previous book) she’s surprised and upset to hear Claire is ready to give up the double shifts and late nights, she thought they would be doing work together like the old days, once Claire comes back to work (something happened in Claire’s book, and she got injured) But Claire has a secret she needs to share with Neveah.
Neveah came across as very narrow minded and a bit of a prude, she finds out her friend is having a relationship with three other guys!!! And when Claire explains about the triad she is with, Neveah doesn’t really believe her. And for the three men being shifters!!! Well that takes a bit of convincing.
Meeting the three men/shifters proves just too much for Neveah and she leaves. She can’t or won’t commit, she’s worked too hard to get where she is, and the last man she trusted beat her and broke her trust. She can’t do it again!!!

The book then goes on to explore the feelings that Neveah has the the triad, and how the three men cope with a commitment shy female. Oh and her ex makes a nasty reappearance. And we find out why the bears want the wolves to be extinct!!!

    Friday’s Post 🌤

it’s Friday, so it’s time to have a drink. I couldn’t decide which cocktail to show you, so I found 6 recipes on one sheet.

Grabbed a quick coffee with a friend before work. Another load of washing on the line.

Friday sees two new chefs running the kitchen (they are only relief whilst the chefs I work with are on holiday and sickness) it made a really nice change to work with someone else. Got lots done today. Should make tomorrow morning easier.

Tomorrow is delivery day, and hoping that it’s a small one, we don’t really have the room for too much.

    How was your Friday?

If I Won The Lottery …..

if I win the lottery, I’d spoil my family, and really close friends…..

There would be a new home for my son.

I’d buy the house I live in now (it’s rented) and redecorate.

I’d see my sisters financially secure.

I’d take the family away for a few holidays.

A few of my favourite charities would get donations.

I’d set up a pension scheme (or a rainy day savings)

    What would you do?

    Thursday’s Post 🌤

My Day started off really well. Managed to grab a quick coffee with a friend.

Washing went on the line. Then off to work. Delivery day, as per usual, more stock came in than was needed. And the stuff we actually needed, that now was no where to be seen!! I really don’t know how the ordering goes so wrong🙄but the stuff got put away, and I started my prep. Before you know it, it’s time to clean my area and grab my bag.

Weather is a little humid at the moment, but it is nice to walk home without boots and coats.

    How was your day ?

    Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

Highland Avenger (Renegade Scots Book 3) by Julie Johnstone

Duty drove him to possess her, but love will drive him to his knees.

Eight years ago, savage Scots invaded Eve Decres’s home, murdering her family and plunging her into a nightmare. As sole heir to a strategically located castle on the border between Scotland and England, Eve became a prize to be wedded and bedded, and she fled into hiding. She survived by clinging to two dreams: one day reclaiming her inheritance, and finding love to build a new family from the ashes of her loss. But on the verge of beginning her journey to make her dreams reality, she makes a fatal error that alerts her enemies to her whereabouts.

Now, Eve is catapulted into a world of feuding clans and warring kingdoms where she’s forced to make a choice that threatens to destroy her chance at freedom and shatter her heart. Amid treachery and violence, she soon discovers her only hope dwells in tying herself to Grant Fraser, a noble, fierce Highland warrior. Though passion smolders between them, Grant is bent on vengeance and sworn to a duty that would thwart her own plans.

Bound by desperation but separated by conflicting desires, the spitfire lass and the determined laird must relinquish what they’ve long held sacred in order to overcome their foes and claim a glorious, unconquerable love.

    My Review…..

I’ve read one of the previous books in this series. (Outlaw King book 1) I don’t think you need to read the other books, but it gives a little background.
Grant is newly appointed Laird if his clan, he wasn’t suppose to be the Laird, that was his brothers place, but he was murdered, so Grant has to step up. He has captured the man responsible for his brother’s death, but had been told his nephew is being held captive, so a swap is needed to save his brothers son.
Eve has been in hiding ever since her parents were killed (in front of her) she is the heir to a castle (it’s position is strategic to both the Scots and the English.) And now she’s eighteen, she can legally claim it, but being a woman if she marries then the husband has rights over the castle, so that makes Eve a target.
Together they need to trust one another, Eve doesn’t trust Grant, she thinks he is a brutish  Scot, only after her castle, and he doesn’t trust the English.
I really enjoyed the book, it was full of action.  Grant and Eve were a really great couple. We have a lot of action. We have prisoner exchanges, we have traitors and mistrust. In all it makes for a really good read.

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 11)

    Most Proud Moment …..

Has to be the birth of my children

First born is my son Aaron.

My Daughter Kim came along 5 years later.

There are a few other moments. Including my son graduating from college, and then getting his wings with Thompson (became cabin crew)

My Daughter for completing college, there were also lots of other moments I was proud of my daughter. She had many problems growing up, so most things she did was an achievement.

So that’s a proud moment (or two) 😉

    Wednesday’s Post 🌤

Day off, popped some washing on the line. Popped to tidy up my daughter’s grave. Then went into town where I met a friend for coffee.

Then spent the afternoon with my friend, just being silly and chatting.

This evening I spent time reading, reviewing and sorting out my blog page.

    How was your Wednesday?

    Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

The Pack’s Mate (WOODLAND PACK series) book 1 by Amelia Shaw

I’m a doctor who hasn’t had a date since cell phones became ‘smart.’ How is it possible that three gorgeous guys can all want me at once?
It was a normal day, during a normal shift, in my normal life… when everything changed.

I wake up in a house in the middle of the woods with three men that allege they can turn in to WOLVES.

I don’t believe them of course. Who would?

But the proof is undeniable, and so is the attraction I feel for all three of them.

I want them… I do. And if wolf shifters are real… then all bets are off.

I’m Alice and I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole.

I wanna see how deep this desire goes, because i won’t choose between them.

And luckily, they don’t ask me to.

Even with the threat of the bear shifters, and the fact that this all-male pack hasn’t born a female in over fifty years…

    I need them.

This too big, sassy, smart girl is gonna get her happily ever after. Even if it means going against every instinct I have.

For readers who love Alpha men, and women who fall hard and fast.

Okay ….. Threesomes and shifters!!! I’ve read a few of these types of books, they seem to be the in thing at the moment. (1 woman and 3 men)
There hasn’t been a female wolf born into the woodlands pack for over 50 years, the population has given up hope of ever finding a mate. So the elders decided to pass a law where 3 Wolves form a triad (an Alpha, Beta and an Omega make up each little “pack”) and when they find their mate, they are to protect and guard them. But finding a mate is easier said than done. So they need to start looking for human females to breed with. (But Dexter’s pack will only mate with their Fated mate.)
Dexter is the Alpha of the pack, what he says usually goes. He’s known Jay and Taylor since they were all young, so his triad was always going to be those two. He wants a mate, and lately that’s all he can think of, someone to come home to, and someone he can have kids with, but with no females in the pack, he had to do something, and searching in the human world, seems like the only option left open to them.
Having touched Claire, he feels a jolt and when she faints at his feet, Dexter whisks her up into his arms and into the  truck, then reality hits. What has he done?!?!
Jay is your omega, the caregiver, he wants a mate and a houseful of kids (in fact he would be happy to stay at home and look after the kids) he is the peacemaker, and when they find their mates, it’s going to be a happy home.
Taylor is the Beta of the group (second in command) he’s always been happy to follow Dexter’s orders. He’s the one who usually goes into town to find a little female companionship, but even that is wearing thin. How do you find your mate?
Claire is a doctor. She loves her job, not too keen on the long hours, but it comes with the job.
Waking up in a strange house isn’t Claire’s thing, but she remembers seeing a big man, shaking his hand, then nothing. And overhearing three guys talking about “sharing her” has her scared. How the hell did she get here? And what do they want? And when she sees what they can become……
This is where I get confused, previous books have the threesome looking for one female, and although Dexter said he didn’t mind sharing, when he meets Claire for the first time, he sends his pack mates away, he is fiercely jealous and guarded. (I thought it was a group decision to share?)
The foursome then have to work out how this life is going to work for them. And how will Claire cope when trouble comes knocking in the shape of angry bears?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 10)

    First Celebrity Crush …..

That had to be George Michael. He was in a pop group called Wham.

Then when they split up, he became a solo artist.

I had all their albums as Wham, and posters on my walls.

As a solo artist I had a few albums and CD’s of George.

So that’s my first celebrity crush.

    Tuesday’s Post 🌤

Managed to hang a little washing out before I went to work this morning. Walked to work listening to an audio book.

Delivery day again😉 just a small delivery, but with the backlog of last weeks salads, (if you remember, we’ve had issues with grills and fryers breaking, so the restaurant has had a few 1/2 days) we had no room for it!!! But with double prep done, I made a dent in the walk-in fridge, and hopefully it busy over the next few days.

Day off tomorrow, will spend it catch up with a special friend 😊

    How was your Tuesday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 9)

    Piercings and Tattoos….

My first tattoo was for my 40th birthday. My daughter chose the design (and as you know she loved her butterflies)

My next tattoo was a tribute to my daughter, she had a major illness and she had pulled through, so I had a tattoo as a promise I made to her (I said if she pulled through then I’d have a tattoo)

My third tattoo was in memory of my daughter who sadly died after fighting illness after illness in hospital.

My fourth was an infinity sign, it’s dedicated to someone very special, so no matter where I go, I always carry them with me.

My fifth one incorporates my 40th birthday butterfly tattoo with stars and a ladybird. It signifies my daughter at the top, my family are the stars (they got to ask for a colour) and my mum at the bottom with the ladybird (she loved ladybirds, but couldn’t have a tattoo for medical reasons. My sixth tattoo is a fairy (no real reason, I really liked it on Pinterest) but i added the butterfly landing as a tribute to my daughter)

it’s not my last tattoo, I have a few more planned. So when I get them, I will share them with you.

And I had my bellybutton pierced for my 40th birthday, but it kept catching on my jeans, so I let it close over.

And I have my ears pierced. I have two holes in each ears. I don’t wear earrings very often.

So that’s my piercings and tattoos, do you have any?

    Monday’s Post 🌤

Another mad day at work. Broken machinery that needed fixing. A dishwasher that mysteriously breaks!!! So I spent most of my shift bent over washing stuff my hand!!! Then the backyard needed sweeping and the industrial bins needed moving!!! I’ve had a right workout today!!

So whilst the restaurant was closed to the public, I cranked up the music and got on with it. Oh and I had a right rant on my work FB page….. the locker room was left in a right state (and it has been that way for a few weeks) so after tidying it up, I posted pictures then had a long rant….. not that it will probably do any good, they are a bunch of lazy and dirty buggers!!!! 🤬🤬

    How was your Monday ?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 8)

    Old Photo of Me …..

Can you guess where I am?

This was taken in my parents garden. It was my grandparents anniversary. My aunts and uncles came with their children. I remember the sun was really hot. Being the eldest grandchild came with responsibilities. I had to keep my nieces and nephews entertained, we had a large buffet lunch out in the garden. My dad had taken this picture, then a week later my mum gave it as a late anniversary present to my gran and grandad. It remained on their living room wall until my grandad passed away a few years ago.

So did you guess which one was me??

I’m the one wearing the yellow shirt.

    Sunday’s Post 🌤

Went to visit my son today. He’s recently moved house, he doesn’t own his house, he rents or house shares at the moment. So we went to see his new place he’s staying in. Once I’d had a nose😉and a coffee, we set out to go into his local town.

We had lunch and a really nice catch up. We do text and chat on the phone, but it’s not the same as in person.

    What did you do today?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 7)

    10 Favourite Foods ….

Today’s Blog Challenge is to name 10 Favourite foods …..

Pizza (For me, It has to be pepperoni)Chicken and Bacon Pasta Bake (with lots of cheese) 😋

Bacon sandwich (or a roll) preferably with brown sauce not red.

I love paella, but my favourite had to be a seafood paella (lots of seafood please)

I love chicken, but especially a roasted chicken, it’s my favourite meat, it’s so versatile.

Cinema popcorn …. there is just something about a large bucket of popcorn in the cinema.

I really like salmon, I tend to wrap it in foil and serve in its own juice. Lots of different ways to steam it. Chocolate. Any kind, but I do like a nice bar of dark chocolate. Ice Cream. A nice vanilla is just as good as any flavour. But Pralines and cream is my favourite. a nice Camembert cheese, pop it into the oven, crusty bread. One of my favourite snacks. Cookies, or chocolate covered biscuits. Love a nice selection (usually buy a box for Christmas)

A really good packet of crisps. Plain is my favourite, but I’ll eat most flavours.

    Ok, that’s actually 12. But once I started, I got carried away😉

    What’s your favourite food?

    Saturday’s Post 🥵

Today was fun at work. We had no Gas or electricity (we found out later that the fans on the roof were tripping the electricity switches) so after delivery was put away (and don’t you know it we had more staff on than usual🙄 we were then given cleaning to do (large order of plates, bowls and cutlery were delivered today) so that meant it all had to be washed and put away, and in the pot wash area it was really hot.

But it all got done, and then it was decided we were to close, so then we had the fun task of closing down the kitchen. I got to leave work early, but was then told by my nephew that it was reopening and it had all been fixed!!! I swear they don’t know what they are doing sometimes!!!

I managed to put out washing on the line a little earlier, so I could get more done. I’m out for the day tomorrow, so I needed most of it done today.

    How was your Saturday?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 6)

    3 Personality Traits I’m Proud of ….

  • LISTENER …… I’m a good listener, if you have something on your mind, I’ll sit and listen, I don’t always give advice. I’ve been told I don’t talk about myself, to be honest I’d rather talk about you. But I think I’ve gotten better over the years. But I’ll always be a better listener than a talker.
  • FRIENDLY….. considering I’m pretty shy, once I’ve gotten to know you, I’m a pretty friendly person. Will I talk to random strangers? No, but if I see you in difficulty or suffering, I will go up and ask if your ok.
  • HELPFUL ….. If I’ve got it, you can have it. I like to see people smile, I’d rather give than receive.

So that’s my 3 traits that I’m proud of.

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 5)

    My Guilty Pleasure ….

It’s got to be grabbing time with a good book. I have a few favourite authors. I also have a few favourite books that I grab if I want a good read.

My other guilty pleasure is chocolate. I’ll eat most chocolate bars, but I don’t really like other things mixed in (fruit and nut, or caramel, or things that pop in your mouth)

    So that’s my guilty pleasures.

    What’s yours?

    Friday’s Post🥵

it’s Friday. So it’s time for a start to the weekend cocktail. I couldn’t choose one, so I’ve picked a multi picture😉 cheers

Had a very interesting day at work today. The extractor fans stopped working, so that meant the grills and fryers stopped as well. So no food, which meant the poor servers had to tell their customers that they couldn’t have food. So instead of cooking food, we were cleaning!! Then the engineer came just as I was leaving , so let’s hope it’s fixed for the morning. And without those fans it was really hot and hard work!!!

    How was your Friday?

    Summer Fun 🍦

  • Homemade lollies

  • Try freezing juices into fun layered lollies. Pour your favourite juices into lolly moulds and freeze a layer at a time (adding fresh fruit if you like) to get a striped effect. Orange and forest fruits (with some sliced strawberries added in) create a colourful effect, but try your own combinations with as many layers as you like.

    Juice Cubes

  • Make a chilled glass of juice even more refreshing by using juice for the ice cubes, too. You won’t dilute your drink with water as they melt and you could even try freezing different juices to make your own mixes, you could try pink grapefruit and pineapple for a tangy, tropical treat. Add fruit for an extra surprise.

  • Simple Slushies

  • If you’ve already got a tray of juice cubes sitting in the freezer, then a simple slushie is something you can easily whip up as well. Blitz the cubes in a powerful food processor or blender for a glass of fruity ice that’ll be the ultimate refreshment on a hot day. Make them even prettier by layering up different flavours in the same glass – all you need to do is choose whether to enjoy with a straw or spoon…

  • Party cocktails

It’s one you should definitely be serving up this summer and will become a new party favourite. Tasting as tropical as it sounds, this pretty drink is a mix of spicy dark rum, Campari, zingy lime and plenty of pineapple juice. Mix up a batch and invite friends and family over.

  • Mocktails

  • Or how about leaving out the booze and making it child friendly. Served with mint leaves, ice and orange slices, try serving as a juice float with chopped pineapple and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  • Have a go and let me see the results 😉

    Thursday’s Post ☀️

Thursday’s Delivery was a nice size. Didn’t take too long. But with a lack of staff it made for a hectic day. Sun was out, so made use of it today and put washing out 😉

Hoping your liking my blog challenge. I’m having fun organising the posts and putting them on a timer. Getting a few reviews done as well.

So ….. how’s was your Thursday?

Captured by her cougar (Cougar Creek Mate) book 2 by Felicity Heaton

Gabriella might be his enemy… but she’s also alpha-shifter Storm’s true mate.

In the wake of an Archangel attack on Cougar Creek, Storm is seething with a need for revenge against the hunter organisation and the key to it might be the petite blonde mortal he’s locked in his cabin, one he’s determined to make sing for him. Only the beauty has a fiery temperament to match his own, and the more time he spends with her, the more she stokes a fire inside him. One that fills him with a startling and undeniable need to make her sing in another way—in his arms.

Gabriella isn’t going to take her captivity lying down. She’s going to give the pig-headed brute holding her against her will hell until he finally believes she’s innocent. He might be a cougar shifter, but she isn’t afraid of him. Or at least she isn’t afraid of what he is. The way he affects her, the flames that lick through her whenever they’re close, terrifies her though, because the longer she’s around the towering sexy-as-sin shifter, the hotter that fire blazes, and it’s only a matter of time before it burns away all her restraint.

With the mating heat and the attack bringing cougars back to the creek, Gabriella is a complication Storm doesn’t need, but she’s one that he wants… because she might just be his one true mate.

    My Review……

Storm is Rath’s brother. He doesn’t live with his brother, but comes once a year to help maintain the cabins and keep the peace between the fighting Cougars. He isn’t keen on the rough living, but it’s his duty to help his brother.
Gabriella isn’t happy, she’s locked in a cabin, after seeing men turn into cougars and her brother try to kill them, then watching the cougar kill her brother. And they believe she is in league with her brother. (He was in some Organization that hunted shifters) So they want answers, so locking her up until she is ready to talk seems like the best plan of action.
Storm doesn’t believe Gabriella didn’t know her brother was a hunter. She must have known. She’s friends with Rath’s mate, so did Lillian tell Gabriella something that triggered the hunters suspicions? And as he is also drawn to this female he is doubly suspicious. He doesn’t want or need a female. He’s happy as he is, but as the other cougars begin to descend and begin to fight, it triggers Storm’s need to protect and mate with this maddening female.
Gabriella and Storm come to a tentative agreement, she’s not allowed to leave the forest, but Gabriella will do as she wants, and she wants to get to know Storm. She didn’t know her brother was a hunter, and was horrified when he told her all he planned to do.
So as the challenge goes for mating rites build up, Storm has to contend with the cougars and his growing feelings for Gabriella.

    What’s a cougar to do?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 4)

    Earliest Childhood Memory…..

I’m not sure what age I was, but I clearly remember a flat that I lived in with my mum and dad, my aunt use to visit all the time. And one day I decided to go visit her instead. I stood on tiptoes and let myself out the door. Walked along the walkway to the lift. I couldn’t reach the button to go down, so I walked down the flight of stairs. And onto the pavement. I knew I had to walk across the road, and through the park. Mum always let me play on the swings for five minutes, I think it was so she could catch her breath (she was pushing my new baby sister) now as I’m meant 50, roads weren’t nearly as busy as they are now. But before I could cross the road, I heard my mum’s voice calling out for me. And I saw my aunt running across the park. Apparently I wasn’t suppose to open the door and go for a walk.

My Mum years later told me this story, she’d gone to feed my sister, then change her. After she’d put her down for a nap, she came looking for me. She thought I was playing hide ‘n’ seek, and when she couldn’t find me she rang her sister (my aunt) in a panic.

When I asked how old I was, I was told about 3.

    So that’s my earliest memory.

    Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

Claimed by her Cougar (Cougar Creek mate) book 1 by Felicity Heaton

    Description ……

Having lost his parents and mate in a brutal attack on his cougar shifter pride by a hunter organisation, Rath burns with a need to keep humans off his land and out of his life. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect his pride from them, but when a lone female wanders into his territory, it isn’t a burning need to drive her away he’s feeling and it isn’t his pride that needs protecting—it’s his heart.

Down on her luck, Ivy follows a lead to a spot where she hopes to photograph black bears, but what she discovers there is a mountain of a man who lacks manners and seems determined to drive her off his property—a man who stirs unbidden fire in her veins and a strange sense of home.

With a pride gathering on the verge of happening at Cougar Creek and the air charged with a mating heat, the last thing Rath needs is a human on his land, especially one as beautiful and alluring as Ivy, one who rouses a fierce need to fight for her, but he can’t convince himself to let her go… and that proves dangerous for them both.

    My Review.….

This four book series is a spin off from her “Eternal Mates” you don’t have to read the previous series, these happily stand alone.

Rath hates the job that he does, he’d like nothing better than to live his life in peace and quiet, but his family look after a group of cabins that belong to cougar shifters, and once a year, they all descend upon the area, to fight and win the chance of either mating a female or easing her “needing.”

Ivy is a nature photographer, her specialty is bears. And after receiving a tip off about a group of black bears, Ivy is off in search of bears and inspiration.

Ivy and Rath don’t meet under the best of circumstances, he’s suspicious of why a human woman is out in his area of the forest, and until he sees evidence on her camera, he is very distrusting. Ivy can’t believe what a rude and arrogant man he is, he can’t order her out of the forest.

Then when other male cougar shifters start to invade the area, Rath is overtaken with the urge to fight for Ivy. But he doesn’t trust humans (they killed a large group of cougar shifters many years ago, including his parents and mate)

So can he trust this human female? Is she really a photographer? Or is she a spy for the hunters?
And what about Ivy, does she trust this rude mountain man? And what’s the secret he’s keeping from her?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 3)

Meaning of my Business Name …..

It’s not a business, it’s a fun blog that I’ve moved from one site to another.

Butterflies 🦋 as my daughter loved butterflies (and as she is no longer here, I carry on her love of butterflies and in memory of her)

Books 📖 well as I read and review, I thought I might as well do the obvious 😉

So my blog usually contains a picture of a butterfly at the beginning and a book picture at the end of the blog, then a quick run down of my day.

I’ll also post random thoughts. And craft projects. Also posting days off and holidays.

    Tuesday’s Post 🌤

A different day today at work. After the delivery was put away, and I’d caught up with salad prep. I was shown the other side of the kitchen. I learned some of the starters and how they are made, and then a quick lesson on the grill, I think I did pretty well today, hot behind the grill, and I can see how tempers get short. But we will see if it goes any further.

    How was your Tuesday?

RAVEN’S GAME (An Orb of Oriste Novella) by Kerry Adrienne

    Back Cover……..

When desperation is a way of life, a single chance to change your fate can be irresistible…

People say Raven is not a very good fairy–she’s well known as the fairy who can’t do anything right.
In a world where magic wanes as dragons terrorize the countryside, Raven tries everything to help her family make ends meet.
With creditors and collectors growing tired of excuses, Raven finds herself presented with an extraordinary opportunity. Winning the high-stakes game with some of the most terrifying creatures in Oriste would allow her to prove herself as competent, solve her money troubles, and possibly even rid her world of the overbearing dragons.
Win, and no one will ever call her a failure again. Lose, and her enslavement will be soul-deep and eternal.

    My Review…..

Fairies …. I always see as Tinkerbelle from Peter Pan.
But Raven is no Tinkerbelle, in fact the world she lives in is no fun at all….. Dragons are terrorising the world she lives in, (they have stolen most of the magic in the kingdom) Something needs to be done. Entering a game seems like the only choice Raven has, if she can win, then she can solve her money problems, prove to herself and everyone she isn’t useless and maybe find a way to stop the dragons from destroying her world. Simple ……
But the journey to where the game is being held is dangerous, and coming face to face with a dragon, is almost enough to put Raven back on the road to home. But she has Benton “Ben” with her and he’s one of the reasons she continues with her journey.
The village/town of Cliffhold is where the game is being held, and when both Ben and Raven arrive they are struck with how beautiful and different it is from their home.

The game consists of solving riddles, the winner wins enough gold to last a lifetime, and a magical dagger, this has magical abilities (and Raven’s destiny is tied to this dagger)
Entering the game, Raven knows her future depends on her winning, but her soul is in jeopardy if she doesn’t win (the losers forfeit their souls)

Oh and did I mention Ben is a centaur!!!! And they are a couple.

So does Raven win her game and the dagger? And what happens with the dagger? And what’s her destiny? And does it include Ben?

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 2)

    20 Facts about me …..

    1. I read (I read a lot)
    2. I have a room dedicated to my books (it’s jokingly called the “library”)
    1. I have 6 tattoos (and plan to have a few more)
    2. I listen to music a lot more, my taste is more varied that it was 10 years ago. I also listen to music that matches my mood, or if I’m feeling a little down, I’ll put on some fast music and have a dance. Music to housework is a favourite of mine. Not yet been caught like Mrs Doubtfire dancing with the vacuum.
    1. I love roses. I prefer to see them in the garden, but I like a nice bunch once in a while for the home.
I did try to learn to drive when I was younger, it was the whole learning to do things all at the same time, and I wasn’t a confident teenager. So sadly I’m a walker not a driver.
I love the cinema, that whole experience, I usually buy sweets and a drink from a shop (the cinema is just so expensive!!) but what I don’t like is the talker ….. behind me or by the side of me, it’s not cheap to watch a film, so I like to watch it in silence.
I have never ridden a bicycle. We weren’t fortunate enough as kids to have bikes, so I never got round it learning. And to be honest the thought of riding on the roads with so many thoughtless drivers is enough to make me stay a pedestrian.
I’m a bigger walker than I was. I’m not a big lover of public transport, I’d rather spend my money on a book or a bar or chocolate. I can usually do over 10,000 steps a day, and in fact my phone has an app which tracks my steps.
I Love chocolate….. white, milk or my favourite is dark chocolate.
I’m a coffee drinker. I don’t drink tea, I haven’t done since I was pregnant with my son (and he’s 31) the smell use to make me feel ill, but at least I can make a cup without holding my nose.
I blog daily 😉 and I also leave reviews on BookBub. Amazon Uk. Good Reads. NetGalley. I also guest review on a blog site called The Reading Cafe.
I like to cook, I’m not an adventurous cook, but I like to throw things together and come up with different recipes. My favourite is a cupboard rice recipe. I find different ingredients and add to rice.
I love butterflies. They use to be one of the things my daughter collected. Ornaments and anything with a butterfly on it, and after she passed away, I continued her collection.
I’m a big fan of penguins. I’ve liked them since I was a child, I’d watch all the nature documentaries. On my next holiday, I plan to see some in the wild. And I can’t wait.
I can’t swim. I never learnt as a child, I’m not scared of the water, but if I’m in a pool, I like to be able to touch the bottom of the pool. And if it’s the beach, then I don’t wade out further than my knees.
I have a kindle, a kindle app on my phone, I also have a kindle fire, and iBooks on my phone, along with paper books. And Audible in my phone. As I said before I love to read, and if I can take a book out with me, then I will 😉
I craft, I have plenty of ideas, I have plenty of items to craft. It all sits in my library. I’ve made a few things, and I do intend to go back and do a few more. (Watch this space)
I wear glasses, I have gone since I was 12, I didn’t always wear them. As a child, I used them for looking at the blackboard (shows how old I am😉) and when the children came along I just started to wear them all the time. In the morning I usually wander round the house without them on. I can’t do it for long as it gives me a headache.
I’m not a big alcohol drinker, I do like a glass of southern comfort with lemonade. A nice cider is always welcome. If I drink wine it’s with lemonade. I can’t taste all those flavours that some people say they can taste!!!
  • So ….. that’s 20 facts about me.
  • 🦋

  • Monday’s Post 🎂

So today was my grandson’s birthday. He turned 18!!!! That went quick!! He’s at college studying construction, we had a family meal out, and his best friend and girlfriend join us.

He got licence plates for his car. And money for his holiday.

31 Day Blog Challenge (Day 1)

Saw this on Pinterest and thought I’d give it a go ….

Thinking this should have been done on my first day of blogging. But as I didn’t see it till today, I thought I’d try it.

    Introduction to me …..

Hi, my name is Julie, and I’m a part time blogger, I read and review my books on here, and I also do a little crafting. I’ll post pictures as I Craft.

I’m from the UK, I live in a town called Basingstoke. But I was born in a town called Bristol. My dad was in the army, so we moved around a lot, I was a shy child, and that made me a target for bullies. So I spent most of my lunches in the library, where I found my love of books. My English teachers encouraged this, and I wrote a few stories in school.

I’ve been married for 28 years, but I’ve been with my husband for 32 years.I have a 31 year old son

we also had a daughter, but she sadly died at the age of 20.

    Introduction to my blog …..

I read and review on here, I tend to read Paranormal romances (vampires, witches, werewolves and Demons) I’m also stretching myself by reading a few different things. I leave Reviews on BookBub, GoodReads, Amazon and a blog site called “The Reading Cafe” and NetGalley. I also pin my blog on “Pinterest”

I’m also going to try audio books.

I read books 📖 audio 🎧 kindle 👩🏻‍💻 and my phone 📱 (iBooks) those little icons will appear on the title page.

So that’s Day one of my Blog Challenge. I’ll try to leave each challenge at the same time each day ⏰

And I tend to leave a 🦋instead of my name.

    Welcome July 💐

What does this month have in store for me?

I have a siblings birthday this month.

she’s my baby sister (7 Year’s between us) I was hoping to spend sometime with her this year, but she will be away, so we will celebrate when she gets back.

It’s also my grandson’s birthday (well technically my step grandson)

He turns 18 this year!!! Not sure where the time has gone.

They are off to Los Angeles for his birthday (one of the places he’s wanted to go) so instead of a big birthday party, we’ve all chipped in to send him there.

There aren’t any new releases from any of my favourite authors, but i do have a few review books that I’ve read for The Reading Cafe that are coming out this month. And I’m reading and reviewing from my library two of my favourite series, so I need to get going with those.
