My Review……
Cobalt is on edge, he doesn’t know how much longer he can keep it together. The need to fight is a constant companion, it burns through him. He needs to tell his big brother, and he needs to tell him soon. And the cause …… his fated mate!!! This year she has matured enough to go through her first needing (a female cougar is ready to breed or mate) and he can’t do a damn thing about it!!!! (He’s part of the security team, so no fun for him)
Ember has come (unwillingly) to the yearly cougar meeting place, her mother drags her there year after year. And this year she is old enough to participate….. but that is not what she wants, she wants a certain cougar. And this year might be her year. If only he’d give her a sign.
Faced with so many males fighting for Ember’s attention, Cobalt is always on edge, to anyone looking at him, he looks cool and detached, but he’s from it, add the fact he’s lost his business, and whispers about him being a loose cannon, he feels all eyes are on him, just waiting for him to fail. So how can he ever hope to be good enough for his mate, his only hope is to speak to his brother and ask for help.
When Ember finally tells her mother she won’t participate in the challenge anymore, she hopes this sends a message to Colbalt, she wants him and only him, but will he listen?
I liked this story. After losing both his parents to a battle started by humans, Colbolt has lived with being a failure (he couldn’t save his parents, he almost lost his baby brother in that battle too) so his temper and patience has slowly eroded away. Finding out your mate is 30 years younger than you, could t have helped, and then watching her being paraded around like a piece of meat was hard. He never felt he was good enough for Ember.
Ember was just as bad, letting her mother make all her decisions was easier as a child, but as an adult, she should have said something earlier.
Will Ember be strong enough to tell Colbalt that she wants him? And will he finally be able to claim his mate? But time is running out, what will they do?
