TRC … The Reading Cafe (a review blog that I guest review for)

I have to admit I’ve not read as many as I would have liked. But I’ve also read a few books again. I’ve also read a few books from series that I’ve not reviewed yet. And a few other books I’ve read don’t come out till next month.

Saturday’s Post ☁️

An early start today. Delivery and breakfast was the order for the morning. A fair sized delivery, but as usual I rolled up my sleeves and got on with it. Then sorted out my salad stuff for the beginning of the day. I made up extra as the day went along. Luckily enough I had help with pot wash, that way I could concentrate on the salad area.

No work tomorrow, shopping and housework. Hoping for a little reading time too.

How was your Saturday?

Friday’s Post 🌦

For some, it’s the start of the weekend. So cheers 😉

Walk to work in the sunshine (albeit a little chilly) and home in the dark. These dark evenings just get so many people down. Your closing your curtains early, putting on lights, and the body is getting ready for bed, when in actual fact, it’s only 5pm!!!

Had a busy day today. Guests seem to be rather demanding and impatient. No one wanted to wait, and all wanted to be served first!!

Can’t believe it’s almost the end of November!! Where has this month gone?

Delivery day tomorrow, so it’s an early start.

Thursday’s Post 🌧

Have to admit, I wanted to do lots this morning, I wasn’t meeting my friend till later in the day. So had planned to visit and tidy up my daughters grave. Wanted to take my travel penguin to the library and take some photos. I wanted to organise a review I’d just finished reading. And I wanted to have a look around town, and get a few gift vouchers. (I give them out as Christmas presents) but I didn’t ….. I did none of that. I’m hoping to do some of those things on my list on Sunday. The rest will have to wait. No movie either today, we had lunch and watched a few programs, before I had to make a move.

How was your Thursday?

Happy Thanksgiving to my Book Buddy in America 🥂

Wednesday’s Post ☁️

Ever have a feeling it’s going to be one of those days? Well I had one of those days today…..

It seemed every guest that came into the restaurant wanted to chat or moan to me….

The day wasn’t going right… Their kids were wanting expensive gifts for Christmas…. Why didn’t I have warm rolls out… their coffee brought by the waitress wasn’t warm enough!!! Oh I had all that today🙄

But with a smile, I sorted most of the complaints. The day again being divided between pot wash and salad.

The rain stayed away, with only a few drops here and there.

I’m off tomorrow, looking forward to a lie in, and a lazy day.

Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

Workaholic Allie Fine isn’t thrilled about a surprise birthday trip to the French countryside, where there’s nothing to do but drink wine and tour old castles. But boredom takes a hike when a sexy period actor shows up to be her special between-the-sheets gift.

Maximillian De Leon, the towering god with eyes of gold and pecs of steel, is the most incredible lover she’s ever had. But Allie wakes with confusion when her French lover tells her he’s actually Prince Maximillian, and he hasn’t seen the light of day since 1789.

Crazy or not, Max De Leon is the hottest man Allie’s ever met—and the perfect piece on her arm to impress the corporate brass and take her career to the next level. So what if he keeps claiming he has to marry her to break a centuries-old curse in order to stay alive. He’ll get over that soon enough…right?

*  Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance. *

My Review…..

This is a short story, it’s from a collection of authors, so none are connected.

Max is living on borrowed time.

Maximillian was escaping the French Revolution (he had already seen his parents killed) with the help of his loyal servants. But Max wasn’t expecting to shoved into a wardrobe, and the woman he thought of as a second mother, to start muttering strange words and lights to come from her hands……

He’s been thrown forward in time. His mission is to find the angel he saw in a vision. He needs to find her. But there’s a catch, he has to get this woman to fall in love with him, and she has to announce it in front of witnesses.

Allie loves fashion, it’s her career, it’s her life, and nothing is more important. So why would her friends send her to France. Nothing to do but drink wine and visit cold and damp castles.

Allie couldn’t care less, she just wants to go home.

Max and Allie meet and it’s practically lust at first sight.

We know Maximillian has to win Allie over, and the frustration he faces when all she wants is his body, and he wants to give her his heart.

Will he get Allie to publicly declare her love for him? What happens if she doesn’t?

And does Allie believe Max?

Tuesday’s Post 🌧

Had a doctors appointment this morning. I need this cough gone, but in all honesty I think it’s here to stay……on the way to their doctors i took these photos, as you can see, the town is in full Christmas mode!!

They didn’t say outright that I have asthma, but I suppose it’s hard to diagnose? I have another appointment in December, this one to check to see if I’ve got asthma.

Work was full of strange requests!! Delivery was a small one, so it was put away pretty quick. (I needed a few things from the delivery, but I couldn’t get them out till it was all put away.) Guests asking silly questions. (And at any moment the skins were going to be replaced by their haves!!) I separated my time between pot wash and salads.

How was your Tuesday?

Book Release Date🥳

When Trez lost his beloved to a tragic death (The Shadows, Black Dagger Brotherhood #13), his soul was crushed and his destiny seemed relegated to suffering. But when he meets a mysterious female, he becomes convinced his true love has been reincarnated. Is he right? Or has his grief created a disastrous delusion?

Therese has come to Caldwell to escape a rift with her bloodline. The revelation that she was adopted and not born into her family shakes the foundations of her identity, and she is determined to make it on her own. Her attraction to Trez is not what she’s looking for, except the sexy Shadow proves to be undeniable.

Has fate provided a grieving widower with a second chance…or is Trez too blinded by the past to see the present for what it really is? In this sensual, arresting book full of the themes of redemption and self-discovery, two lost souls find themselves at a crossroads where the heart is the only compass that can be trusted…but that may require a courage that neither of them possesses.

I love this series. And I haven’t reviewed them on my blog yet!!!

This is a hard cover copy first 🤨so probably mid year it comes out in paperback. Giving me time to start on this series (again)

So …Happy Release Day, to one of my favourite authors.

Monday’s Post 🌧

A wet and windy Monday. Work was pretty quiet, so I managed to catch up with all my salad prep and pot wash, I even managed to clean my fridge 😉 Rain seemed to keep a lot of guests away today. Which was probably a good thing. We were running out of our popular food items. It’s a good job it’s delivery day tomorrow.

How was your Monday?

Sunday’s Post 🌧

I did a few hours at work today. I wasn’t going to, but with two members of the kitchen team on a few days off, it was wall hands on deck. That did mean i didn’t get to do as much as I wanted to at home. But once I got home (managed to get a little food shopping done) I put a wash load in and did a little tidying up. Rained on and off for most of the day. By late afternoon it had gotten dark and really dreary.

got brought a new mug (I unfortunately broke my penguin one) 😔the nose changes colour when hot liquid is placed inside.

Hope you had a good weekend

Saturday’s Post🌧

A long and miserable day. It rained on and off for most of the day. Delivery day as well, so I had to get a move on. Nothing worse than boxes becoming wet and fall apart in your hands.

The weather, or the time of the year saw us really busy for breakfast and then the lunch period.

Had quite a few guests try my patience today!! They seemed to have no manners!!

Friday’s Post 🌦

Should have put this one on over Halloween! Oh well. If you make it, send me a picture 😉Thinking if doing this as a 3D picture. I’ll add it to my craft list 😉

A slightly damp day today. Did the rain warm us up just a little? Not sure, but by the end of the day, it was pretty chilly! It also rained on and off for most of the day. So it had me avoiding puddles on the way to work, and avoiding cars that were aiming for those puddles🙄

Another steady day. So I managed to get a fair amount of prep done for tonight’s dinner shift. Being a damp day brought the umbrellas in, and with it, the usual puddles.

I’m at work early tomorrow (delivery day) Sent another written review to The Reading Cafe, but that’s one won’t come out till December.

Book Review 📱

ANDRE, THE KINGSLAYER by Aubrey Copeland

Description…….The year is 1427. The Great Revolution has been raging for eight long years, effecting every aspect of life in the Isobellian Empire. Countless are dead, and thousands of families have been torn apart. But the Empire still has hope to be freed.

Andreas Bellbrook is the Kingslayer: a prophesied hero destined by fate to steal the legendary sword Excelsior from the Black King Tiberius. With it, Andre will end the war by killing the Black King despite his immortality.

But Tiberius has grown wise to the Kingslayer’s destiny, and will stop at nothing to see him killed.

Soon, Andre is swept into a war that he wants no part in, and the only way for him to survive is to join the national resistance and steal the legendary sword with their aid. Before long, Andre’s life will depend on their victory.

My Review…

The war was almost over.
After eight long years of endless battles, the king would soon be dead. The reign of Tiberius would be known as the darkest in the history of the Empire. Never before had a king been so hated, and never had such hatred been so deserved. But thanks to a man named André (also called “the Kingslayer”), the Black King Tiberius would soon be a memory…..”
That was really good. Although the footnotes that were added after each chapter, were a little confusing at first, but explained much without writing it into the story, so you could skip the footnotes and not really notice too much.
After eight long years the bitter war would soon be over. The most hated king in the Isobellian Empire was Tiberius. He was a cruel and vicious ruler.
Andre is professed to be a kingslayer. (Either a slayer of kings or going to be a slayer)
We then face a long and deadly gave of cat and mouse, Andre must find a special sword in order to kill the “Black King” looking forward clues as to the whereabouts of the sword, all the while avoiding the imperial knights looking to end the legend.
It’s really well written and flows seamlessly from one chapter to another.
The battles are described well. And we get that sense of urgency. Andre needs to find the sword. And he needs to fight the black knight
The supporting characters are written about well. We have a few, that seem more important, a princess that needs to be saved.
It has magical elements in the story also. Wizards, wands and spells. A ring that give the wearer immortality. And a sword that can kill a King!!!

Thursday’s Post ☁️

A really cold day today. But I spent the morning reading and sorting out a few reviews. Then popped into town to grab me and my BFF lunch.

After lunch we settled down to watch a classic film…..

A serial murderer known only by a grotesquely apt nickname–Buffalo Bill–is stalking women. He has a purpose, but no one can fathom it, for the bodies are discovered in different states. Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the FBI Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, chief of the Bureau’s Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter–Hannibal the Cannibal–who is kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

Dr. Lecter is a former psychiatrist with a grisly history, unusual tastes, and an intense curiosity about the darker corners of the mind. His intimate understanding of the killer and of Clarice herself form the core of Thomas Harris’ The Silence of the Lambs.

That was my day off. How was your Thursday?

The Firefighters Cinderella (A Fire and Sparks Novel) By Sonya Weiss

What’s a Cinderella to do when she’s accidentally kicked her Prince Charming in the face and broken his nose? Hold an audition, of course.

Harper Bailey is desperate to keep her family’s amusement park business up and

running, but her employees keep quitting, and the man playing prince to her

Cinderella in the company’s mainstage show is just the latest casualty. When sexy firefighter Rafferty Bradford, the most eligible bachelor in their small town,

offers to step in, Harper agrees reluctantly. After all, she and Rafferty are ex-best friends with a ton of past history. Surely they’ll have zero chemistry

Rafferty has his own reasons for agreeing to play Prince Charming, and none of them

are good. If Harper finds out the truth, it’ll just reinforce every rumor she’s

believed over the years about Rafferty’s bad rep. But when their chemistry explodes

both onstage and off, he’ll have to choose between happily-ever-after for

himself…or the Cinderella he’s fallen for.

My Review….

Let’s get past a small town could Possibly entertain TWO amusement parks.

Let’s ignore the best friends who use to be inseparable, why did they fall out? And they have both been burnt by love, why would they put themselves through it again?

Ignore all that and you have a fun read. It’s part of a series, but you don’t need to read the previous ones (i haven’t and I didn’t feel I missed anything)

Harper needs a Prince Charming, and pretty fast. Her family business is relying on her, and she can’t fail them…..

Enter her ex-best friend, as kids her and Rafferty were inseparable, but one moment it’s all over, Rafferty moves on, and Harper is left healing a broken heart.

Rafferty is a player, a love them and leave them guy, but there is a reason, and when he walked away from Harper, he thought it was for the best, he misses his best friend, but not enough to ever offer her a ring. But if she had an itch, then he’s the guy to help with that.

The town thinks that Rafferty and Harper should be together, and trying to convince everyone they are only together for the amusement park is proving harder than they thought. Except would it be so bad, just to give in?

Rafferty is hiding something, and when Harper finds out, it could end their newly formed friendship.

It’s a fun read, no smut, but lots of laughs. Got to love a matchmaking granny.

Wednesday’s Post ☁️

It’s definitely getting colder!! Time to dig out the gloves and hat😉

Walking to work was a little bracing, but as long as it’s dry I’ll take that (it’s better than rain or snow)

We had a flying visit from our regional manager and his boss!! And I do mean flying visit…. in … round …. then gone!!! They had come to see what needed to be either replaced or if any renovations were needed (they are, but we probably won’t get any)

I spent the day as usual splitting my time between pot wash and the salad cart. It was a lot quieter today. So I helped bring plates in from the restaurant and wipe tables (not too exciting, but it does break the day up)

Day off tomorrow 😊

What are your plans for tomorrow?

Tuesday’s Post☁️

A frost greeted us this morning. Luckily it didn’t make the walk to work slippery. It was delivery day today, so it was earlier start. I had help with the delivery today, so it was put away pretty quick. So I got plenty done, well that was until a meeting with my new shift leader (a new thing again) we have a meeting in which we can express our development with the job, and if we have any concerns….. it’s suppose to be a 15-20 min chat, I had a 40 min chat!!! Oh I had a lot to say 😆

Hubby is a big fan ….. I can’t think of anything worse to watch!!! Full of over inflated wanna-be’s!!! I feel sorry for the animals that are forced to be in close contact with the so called “celebrities” so I put on my headphones 🎧 and listened to some music and read a book 😉

Hope your Tuesday was a good one.

Monday’s Post☁️

After the dramas on Sunday, I was hoping for a quiet Monday.

Well I get to work, and find no one had done anything!!! A miscommunication between the management had my kitchen manager not getting in till 11!! She’s suppose to be in at 8, to start her day!!

So we start the day a little later than planned. But we get ready, and although lunch is a little late, we didn’t have any complaints.

An early start tomorrow, in to help with the delivery.

How was your Monday?

Sunday’s Post ☁️

Work today. And what a day!! Plenty of drama and guests to keep me occupied. One of the waitresses was disciplined for being late, she didn’t take kindly to being told off, and then fireworks!! Seriously….. if your late, then accept the telling and move on, but to throw your toys out the pram!! That really is pretty childish….

Anyway work was steady, and for a change I got to work on just one section 😉managed to prep quite a lot. But we were pretty busy in places.

My granddaughter got to see the reindeer walk through the town today. Last year we went together, but as I was working, I got to see pictures. Grace had a pretty good time, as you see she got to see Santa and Mrs Claus.

Must remember today was Sunday, tomorrow is Monday. I could get confused 😆

How was your weekend?

Saturday’s Post ☁️

That was a busy day!! I don’t think I stopped for two minutes!! A delivery that was pretty big (a really unhelpful driver) and staff that had gotten drunk the night before, and didn’t bother turning up for work!! I put most of the delivery away myself. Then set up pot wash, all the while getting salads ready for lunch. Then before you know it, I’m working on the starter area, and wouldn’t you know it, the place is busy, I don’t which way was up. But we got through it, and help arrived from 2.30pm and onwards.

How was your Saturday?

Friday’s Post 🌧

Can’t believe we are two weeks into November!! Not sure where the days are going?!

Today was an interesting one. The cleaner had somehow shorted the electrics to the salad cart! So we had to offer the salad, then go into the walk-in fridge, and put it into a bowl for the guests! It was so much hassle! I was really happy when the electrician told us we could use it again.

How was your Friday?

Thursday’s Post ☁️

Doctors today, we chatted, and now I’m on a course of antibiotics for a week!! Then a new appointment for just over a week’s time.

The stalls are now up and opening for the Christmas rush. Trees and decorations are all over the town.

Caught up with my friend for lunch. Chilling and watching a film on Netflix.

A pretty good film, with a twist I never saw coming.

Wednesday’s Post 🌥

A cold but sunny walk to work today. Chatting to my friend as I walk seems to make the walk quicker.

Work again was a busy day. Gossip was rife, it seems our manager may be leaving, but I think they are all reading too much into it. If the manager is going, then there isn’t much we can do about it. But it was the some topic of discussion today!!!

Day off tomorrow ☺️an early doctors appointment, let’s see if they can help with this irritating cough.

Tuesday’s Post☁️

That was a looooong day 😴

Delivery was on time, but I got the pleasure of doing it all on my own!! But I got on with it and got it done pretty quick. Then there was putting it away and getting ready for start of the day.

It was a steady day, just the two of us in the kitchen, so we were kept pretty busy. I got to have a lunch break, and watched with fascination at the way my colleagues interacted with each other. They do make me laugh sometimes. If they aren’t stabbing each other in the back, it’s “babe this” and “babe that” and they moan about guests leaving a mess…. well, I think some of my colleagues leave the same amount of mess, and they walk away too!!

How was your Tuesday?

Monday’s Post ☁️

As you know, I had a hospital appointment last week for blood tests, well they did something to them, or the system went down. But needless to say I had to go back and repeat the procedure!! The traffic around where I live is bad enough, but roadworks near and around the route to the hospital makes the journey longer and a nightmare!!

But I get there, grab a ticket and wait my turn….. whilst I’m in there, people come and go, and I’m enjoying reading a book on my phone, I’m making notes for a review.

Get the bloods done and then it’s join the queue in the traffic to get home!!

Work today ……

We had a surprise visit from HSO (Heath and Safety Officer) he visits before NSF visit. They will check and give us a rating to show we can serve food to the public.

So the kitchen manager and her minion 😉were running around making sure we were ready. Funnily enough my station, fridge and sinks passed 😉 we just have to wait for the official visit.

A chilly walk home tonight. And the moon was full and bright. Pretty pleased with my picture.

I have a full day tomorrow. I’m in early to meet the delivery driver, and to put away the delivery. I’m also doing till 5pm, so that’s a loooooong day 😉

How was your Monday?

Sunday’s Post ☁️

Went to see my son today.

Weather although cold, was bright, so it made for a nice walk about. We had lunch out

And then a nice walk along the canal, and then back to my son’s home. Dinner and a chat finished off a really nice day.

Saturday’s Post 🌧

Cheers. Hope you have a good weekend.

A cold walk to work today. Luckily I had help with the delivery today. Than around midday the rain started. And stayed till late evening.

Had dinner out with an old work colleague and friend. We chatted about her holiday, and my nightmare day at work. And by the time it was over, the rain had stopped.

Friday’s Post 🌬

Getting colder. Time to think about changing my scarf to a thicker one (I tend to wear chiffon in the summer) and looking for the gloves.

Walking home is now in the dark. I don’t listen to music (I usually chat to either my BFF or my younger sister)

Work was another busy affair, things need to change, the start of the day I can do both pot wash and salads, but as it gets busier, the dishes pile up, or the guests empty the food containers. Need another body to take a little of the strain.

Having dinner with an old work colleague tomorrow. So it’s straight from work and into town.

Hope you have a good weekend. What did you get up to today?

Circus Visit 🎪

Went to the circus a few days ago.

Grace was very excited.

This circus is a little different. They do t have animals, it’s a people circus… clowns, acrobats and magicians. Yes it was all her own hair, and she swings through the air, by “hair power”

We had hot dogs, popcorn and candy floss. It was a fun few hours.

Thursday’s Post ☁️

Back up to the hospital today for blood tests . The doctor is almost certain that it’s asthma. Can’t do a peak flow test until this cough is under control.

The wait in the waiting room actually took longer than the taking of my blood.

In fact I probably could have walked to a from the hospital and still been quicker 😉

Had a really nice catch up with my BFF. Chatted and watched a film …..

Level 16 is a 2018 sci-fi thriller by filmmaker Danishka Esterhazy. It follows a group of girls who live at a “school” which educates them about how to be perfect young women for families that they are told will eventually adopt them. Two girls work together to uncover the truth about their captivity.

It was really good.

Thursday’s Post

Today would have been my Gran’s birthday. She sadly passed away (over 30 years!!) but i fondly remember her. She was always there with advice and a tissue (usually a wet one to wipe the little ones faces 😝)

Today was my day off. But spent it on the phone trying to arrange a doctors appointment. Still got this cough and now it’s beginning to annoy and aggravate!!!

Monday’s Post 🌧

Busy day at work (think people were still getting over their boozy weekend)

Prepping and keeping Pot Wash tidy. Running back and forward!! And then as it’s half term this week, you have the school kids to contend with!!

Bonfire Night 🔥 🧨

Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night and Firework Night, is an annual commemoration observed on the 5th of November, primarily in the United Kingdom.

Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes a member of the Gunpowder plot, was arrested while guarding the explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords.

Celebrating the fact that King Janes I had survived an attempt on his life, people lit bonfires around London, and months later the introduction of the Observance of the 5th November Act enforced an annual public day of giving thanks for the plots failure.

Within a few decades Gunpowder Treason Day, as it was known, became the predominant English state commemoration, but as it carried strong Protestant religious overtones it also became a focus for anti-Catholic sentiment.

Puritans delivered sermons regarding the perceived dangers of popery, while during increasingly raucous celebrations, common folk burnt effigies of poplar hate figures, such as the pope.

Towards the end of the 18th century, reports appear of children begging for money with effigies of Guy Fawkes and 5 November gradually became known as Guy Fawkes Day.

In the 1850s changing attitudes resulted in the toning down of much of the day’s anti-Catholic rhetoric, and the Observance of 5th November Act was repealed in 1859. Eventually the violence was dealt with, and by the 20th century Guy Fawkes Day had become an enjoyable social commemoration, although lacking much of its original focus. The present-day Guy Fawkes Night is usually celebrated at large organised events, centred on a bonfire and extravagant firework displays.

Settlers exported Guy Fawkes Night to overseas colonies, including some in North America, where it was known as Pope Day. Those festivities died out with the onset of the American Revolution.

Claims that Guy Fawkes Night was a Protestant replacement for older customs like Samhain are disputed, although another old celebration, Halloween, has lately increased in popularity in England, and according to some writers, may threaten the continued observance of 5 November.

Book Review 📱

UNMASK ME (A Dragons Love Curves Story) book 2.5 by Aidy Award.

Ciara is still adjusting to her new life as a witch, a dragon’s mate, and living in a new country.
What she needs is a project to make her new home feel… like home. A party to plan is just the ticket!
Not just a party, but a masquerade ball where more of the green dragons can find mates. Perfect. Except no one does Halloween like back home in the U.S. She can’t find decorations, or costumes, or even pumpkins. Boo!
Jakob loves his mate something fierce and he’ll do anything to make her happy, even if that means talking the biggest baddest dragons around into dressing up in silly costumes. But are dragons and humans the only ones coming to this party?

My Review…..

A fun Halloween read. Still part of the Dragon loves curves series, not really a stand alone story, more of a continuation of the couples story.
Ciara is mated to her dragon mate, and she wants to share her good fortune with other dragons and human women. So Ciara organises a Halloween themed ball. But living in Europe they don’t celebrate it the way America does. So finding costumes and decorations is proving difficult. But Ciara isn’t put off, she will find all she needs and find mates for her green dragons.
The surprise in the shape of the incubus was a good one, can’t wait to see where the succubus takes the dragons and their mates.

When I read this series again, and I will, I’ll read this as 2.5 and not at the end of the series (It did throw me a little as most of the mates have found each other already, but once I realised what was going on I got with the book)
