Saturday’s Post

Delivery day today. So not only did I have to due the delivery on my own (what a surprise) but I got to do it in the rain!!

The weather was definitely having a meltdown today. Sun with rain, hailstones, rain on its own and a scattering of sunshine. I wasn’t sure if I needed my umbrella, flippers or sunglasses!!

Random Thought 💭 …. A Leap Year

A leap year (also known as an intercalary year or bissextile year) is a calendar yearcontaining an additional day (or, in the case of lunisolar calendars, a month) added to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical or seasonal year. Because seasons and astronomical events do not repeat in a whole number of days, calendars that have the same number of days in each year drift over time with respect to the event that the year is supposed to track. By inserting (also called intercalating) an additional day or month into the year, the drift can be corrected. A year that is not a leap year is called a common year.

For example, in the Gregorian calendar, each leap year has 366 days instead of 365, by extending February to 29 days rather than the common 28. These extra days occur in years which are multiples of four (with the exception of centennial years not divisible by 400). Similarly, in the lunisolar Hebrew calendar, Adar Aleph, a 13th lunar month, is added seven times every 19 years to the twelve lunar months in its common years to keep its calendar year from drifting through the seasons. In the Bahá’í Calendar, a leap day is added when needed to ensure that the following year begins on the vernal equinox.

The name “leap year” probably comes from the fact that while a fixed date in the Gregorian calendar normally advances one day of the week from one year to the next, the day of the week in the 12 months following the leap day (from March 1 through February 28 of the following year) will advance two days due to the extra day (thus “leaping over” one of the days in the week) . For example, Christmas Day (December 25) fell on a Tuesday in 2012, Wednesday in 2013, Thursday in 2014, and Friday in 2015 but then “leapt” over Saturday to fall on a Sunday in 2016.

The length of a day is also occasionally changed by the insertion of leap seconds into Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), owing to the variability of Earth’s rotational period. Unlike leap days, leap seconds are not introduced on a regular schedule, since the variability in the length of the day is not entirely predictable.

So that’s the meaning of a leap year 🤪

Friday’s Post

That’s definitely me 😉

With all that’s been going on lately, it was good just to go to work and not have any drama. 😉

We have another storm heading our way. It’s going to be another wet and windy weekend.

Not looking forward to the delivery in the morning. Hoping it doesn’t rain till later tomorrow.

Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

Once in a Blue Moon (A Belles of St. Clair Novel) book 2 by Amanda Ashby

Description……..
Florist Laney George has a successful business, amazing friends and big, big dreams––oh, and a broken heart. But she’s working through that last one. Then the man she hoped to never see again shows up––and Laney’s carefully ordered plans are experiencing technical difficulties.

Celebrated Author Adam Fitzpatrick planned to be in St. Clair for no more than a day. Sign the books, and get out. Same story, different day. What he didn’t count on was Laney George, who happens to be the star of his somewhat fictional tale. She broke his heart years ago, and he’d gone a bit mad. Okay, maybe a lot mad––and he put everything in his book, never imagining it would be a world-wide best seller.

Now that he’s seen her again, he wants answers. But it isn’t just her that draws him in. It’s the town, something is happening and for the first time in years…he can write again. If only he could convince the woman who hates him most to start a new chapter in their story.

My Review…….
Laney runs a flower shop in a small town, she loves the job and where she lives. But when Laney has an itch, she just has to scratch it, that leads her to all sorts of predicaments… adopting a dog, marrying a man after one date, and buying property to boost her flower sales.
She’s also a widow, almost five years now, and she still misses him.

Adam is a famous author, but he never forgot St. Clair or a certain someone in that little town. She broke his heart and he wrote about it…..

When Adam is seen in town, Laney panics, will the town put the clues together and find out she was the one who stalked? Except it wasn’t really her stalking him, everything he wrote about her was lies, (well some of the milder things were her, but only fun and silly things) it was his way of venting, she’d broken his heart and he’d been angry. She hadn’t let him explain himself.
But that hasn’t stop Laney from worrying about the community putting all the clues together and working out that Laney was the infamous “Nina”. And I got the impression she was upset that he had twisted what they had into a story. But again I feel we were missing pieces but that they will be added along the way.

The characters were nicely written. I had to laugh at Adam, realising he could write whilst being around Laney, but battling his anger and then guilt regarding Laney. Could he convince her to give him another chance?
Laney was a hoot, she usually acts on itches she gets, but with Adam, she was determined not to. Her quirky manner was fun (weaving flowers through her dogs collar and painting it’s “nails”) regarding Adam with scepticism, if he wrote about them the first time, what’s your stop him from doing it again?

This is book two in the series.  I’ve read the first book, but I don’t think it makes to much of a difference if read out of order.

Thursday’s Post

Definitely a Sunday post 😉
Not needed this yet. But there had a been a few close moments. I’ve found a few unwelcome presents in the work toilet 😱
This is what I woke up to this morning!

That wasn’t on forecast last night! But luckily enough it didn’t settle. I got a lift into work, an early phone call from work asking for help…..

The delivery had to come through the front door this morning. Why? Well the previous night had our dry store flooring being removed and relaid. But the workmen had left so much rubbish in the backyard, it made it impossible to bring the delivery in that way.

So I came in and helped Emma bring the delivery in. We then had to clean the dry store before bringing in the old stock, putting it away, and then putting away the new stuff.

We have a new chef for the next few weeks, she’s from another restaurant, and she’s really efficient. So I’m hoping she can motivate the team into taking a bit of pride in the restaurant.

Wednesday’s Post

A sunny but chilly day today. Did some shopping before catching with with a special friend. We had a giggle whilst I coloured her hair. Then we settled down to lunch and a film.
Taken from the book by the same name.

Can You Ever Forgive Me? is a 2018 American biographical film directed by Marielle Hellerand with a screenplay by Nicole Holofcenerand Jeff Whitty, based on the confessional memoir of the same name by Lee Israel. Melissa McCarthy stars as Israel, and the story follows her attempts to revitalize her failing writing career by forging letters from deceased authors and playwrights.[4] The film also features Richard E. Grant, Dolly Wells, Jane Curtin, Anna Deavere Smith, Stephen Spinella, and Ben Falcone in supporting roles. Israel took the title from an apologetic line in a letter in which she posed as Dorothy Parker

In 1991, following the critical and commercial failure of her biography of Estée Lauder, author Lee Israel struggles with financial troubles, writer’s block, and alcoholism. With her agent unable to secure her an advance for a new book, Israel sells her possessions to cover expenses, selling a personal letter she received from Katharine Hepburn to a book dealer named Anna. Meanwhile, she forms a friendship with an old acquaintance, Jack Hock.

While researching a potential Fanny Bricebiography, Israel discovers two letters written by Brice, one of which she takes and shows Anna. Anna gives a low offer due to the bland content. Israel returns home and adds a postscript to the second letter before bringing it back to Anna, who takes the letter for $350. Israel then starts forging and selling letters by deceased celebrities, incorporating intimate details to command high prices. Anna, a fan of Israel’s writing, tries to initiate a romantic relationship, but the socially phobic Israel rebuffs her.

When one of Israel’s letters raises suspicion for its unguarded discussion of Noël Coward‘s sexuality, her buyers start blacklisting her. Unable to sell the forgeries, she has Jack sell the letters on her behalf. She also starts stealing authentic letters from libraries and archives to sell, replacing them with forged duplicates. While Israel is out of town committing one such theft, her cat dies under Jack’s care. She ends their friendship but continues their partnership out of necessity.

The FBI arrests Jack while he is attempting a sale. He cooperates with them, resulting in Israel being served with a court summons. She retains a lawyer, who advises her to show contrition by getting a job, doing community service, and joining Alcoholics Anonymous. In court, Israel admits she enjoyed creating the forgeries and does not regret her actions, but realizes that her crimes were not worth it because they did not show her true self as a writer. The judge sentences Israel to five years’ probation and six months’ house arrest.

Sometime later, Israel reconciles with Jack, now dying of AIDS, and receives his permission to write a memoir about their escapades. While passing a bookstore, she sees a Dorothy Parker letter she forged on sale for $1,900. Disgusted, she writes the store owner a sarcastic note in Parker’s voice. Upon receiving Israel’s note and realizing that the letter in the storefront window is a fake, the owner removes it from the window, but changes his mind and decides to keep it on display.

description
Now a major motion picture starring Melissa McCarthy—Lee Israel’s hilarious and shocking memoir of the astonishing caper she carried on for almost two years when she forged and sold more than three hundred letters by such literary notables as Dorothy Parker, Edna Ferber, Noel Coward, and many others.

Before turning to her life of crime—running a one-woman forgery business out of a phone booth in a Greenwich Village bar and even dodging the FBI—Lee Israel had a legitimate career as an author of biographies. Her first book on Tallulah Bankhead was a New York Times bestseller, and her second, on the late journalist and reporter Dorothy Kilgallen, made a splash in the headlines.

But by 1990, almost broke and desperate to hang onto her Upper West Side studio, Lee made a bold and irreversible career change: inspired by a letter she’d received once from Katharine Hepburn, and armed with her considerable skills as a researcher and celebrity biographer, she began to forge letters in the voices of literary greats. Between 1990 and 1991, she wrote more than three hundred letters in the voices of, among others, Dorothy Parker, Louise Brooks, Edna Ferber, Lillian Hellman, and Noel Coward—and sold the forgeries to memorabilia and autograph dealers.

Tuesday’s Post

So….. where do I begin?

The walk to work was a cold and damp one. My nose and forehead were numb by the time I got there!

Delivery was a little late, but that was minor in comparison to the rest of the day …..

Well….. I told you about the assistant manager and one of the chefs at work. Well they were denying vehemently, “nothing going on, everyone just needs to drop it” well it turns out they are getting it on ….. and today it takes a twist. The chef is now refusing to come into work (funny considering we couldn’t get rid of him for the last few weeks) the bad arm that is preventing him from working properly (he’s suppose to be off, but we couldn’t get him to take time off) is now causing him pain!! So he won’t be in for a while!!

Leaving the assistant manager to bear the brunt of people’s gossip and stares!! The other chef decided she couldn’t work with AM (assistant manager) and locked herself in the staff flat (seriously I couldn’t make this up if I tried) claiming the AM was harassing her and wanting to tell her side of the story (there is also a rumour going around the chef is pregnant and doesn’t want the stress) anyway, chef then went home, so we are now without a chef!! Meanwhile I’m setting up the starter area and the grill area (I don’t even know the chef has gone home yet) I’ll go back to the delivery once we are up and running in the kitchen.

Oh …… we are also having two of the griddle chefs being brought up on a disciplinary (I swear i work with children) so the woman I usually do the delivery has to go and sit in and act as an extra pair of ears. So not only am I putting away the delivery, I’m making gravy, putting chickens in the rotisserie, making batter mix, jacket potatoes into the oven, and putting out all the bits that’s needed around that area.

(Are you still with me?)

I lost where I am!!!

Oh yeah …… chef gone home, other chefs getting investigated, and the other chef is AWOL!!!

The Regional manager is now involved (oh great) we are told not to open the restaurant, just the bar. We aren’t cooking, so the waitresses can go home. I’m given the option to go home, but there are things I need to do. And if I can manage to stay, then I get paid for the shift.

So bar is open, restaurant is closed, so I need to bring the salad bar back in and into the fridge (luckily I didn’t take the clingfilm off the containers)

We have a little waste (remember the stuff I put in? Well it had to get wasted, but that didn’t stop the staff from eating the rotisserie chickens) to contend with.

So once the decision has been made to keep the restaurant closed, I put away the last of the delivery. Throw away the boxes into the recycle bins. Sweep the yard, and then put my music on.

I got plenty done. Washed, polished and buffed my way around the kitchen…. The chefs were given warnings to change their ways (good luck with that) the AM decided to take herself off home (after dropping her keys and name badge on the counter) people are saying she’s given her notice in?! Then the supposedly pregnant chef came back (coincidence?) and we waited for the ok to open for the evening.

So….. as you can see I had a pretty eventful day. But I swear it’s all DRAMA!!! DRAMA!!! DRAMA

Monday’s Post

Another wet and windy Monday. It was a really hard walk, felt like I was walking up hill for most of it.

Drama …. Drama …. Drama !!!! Seriously 😐 we have a illicit affair going on at work🤨 a chef and our assistant manager. That’s not the issue, the issue is the chef is engaged!! For the last week or so, both of these people have vehemently denied anything was going on between them, in fact, tempers were a little frayed and people were told to mind their own business… Well guess what? They are having sex, they are meeting up, and they are exchanging text messages!! It’s like an episode from a soap opera🙄🙄🙄

🦋

Sunday’s Post

Hope your Sunday has been a good one.
Hmmmmm. I’ve read a few books that haven’t been as good as the first. Or in a few cases, a few that’s been better than the first one. But never ruined a book I’ve really loved.

Had a really windy start to the day. So I was glad I was in the car going to visit my sister today, I usually take the train, but as the trains going to hers weren’t running (I needed to take a bus half way through the journey) I got a lift instead.

Lunch and a catch up. Helped with some clothing (took several bags to a charity shop) Then dinner and home.

Book Review 📖

WaterBound (A Sister’s of the Heart Series) book 1 by Christine Feehan

Description…..

The last thing Lev Prakenskii remembered was being lost in the swirling currents of the ocean and getting sucked deeper into the nothingness of a freezing black eddy off the coastal town of Sea Haven. Just as quickly, just a miraculously, he was saved–pulled ashore by a beautiful stranger. But Lev has no memory of who he is–or why he seems to possess the violent instincts of a trained killer. All he knows is that he fears for his life, and for the life of his unexpected savior.

Her name is Rikki, a sea-urchin diver in Sea Haven. She has always felt an affinity for the ocean, and for the seductive pull of the tides. And now she feels drawn in the same way to the enigmatic man she rescued. But soon they will be bound by something even stronger, and their tantalizing secrets will engulf them both in a whirlpool of dizzying passion and inescapable danger.

My Review…..
This series is based in Sea Haven, and one of the heroine’s in this series is actually a cousin to the Drake Sisters.
Lev Prakenskii (Is a brother to Ilya, who’s book is “Turbulent Sea) was on the boat that Elle was held hostage on (her story was Hidden Currents) He tried to save her, tried to get her off the boat, he knew his boss was interested in Elle. He had to standby and watch her being abused, he couldn’t risk saving her and blowing his cover. He bitterly regretted not doing anything, but he knew they both would be killed. But she got away and he was pleased. He wasn’t pleased when his boss found Elle again and tried to take her back. Elle retaliated and now Lev finds himself being blown off the boat and into the sea. But he’s ok with that, he’s done his job, he doesn’t need to worry about anything anymore…..
Rikki loves the water, that is where she is at home. The sea grounds her, keeps her calm. And diving for sea urchins, gives her purpose, focus and an excuse to be out on the water. Rikki lost her whole family due to a violent tragedy, back bad things always seem to happen around her, is she a jinx? Or is there something more sinister going on? And when she comes across a man in the water, Rikki has to decide wether to rescue him or let the sea claim him…..
Rikki hates anything that disturbs her peace of mind or her routine. And Lev does that on all levels, after rescuing him, he becomes a firm fixture in her life, but there is his memory loss to worry about, and the fact that he feels dangerous to Rikki and her way of life.
And when her “sisters” meet him (they aren’t blood related, they met at a self help group for abused women) they don’t like him, but Rikki sees past the harsh exterior, and maybe, just maybe Rikki will keep him.
Lev (or Levi as the name he now goes under) is suffering from memory loss, but he knows how to handle a gun. And as his memory returns, he’s worried his old life will come back and harm the woman he’s falling in love with.
I loved this book, it handled Rikki’s issues with care and sensitivity. Being autistic and having a life, was written really carefully. We never forgot that Rikki was different, and to find a man that would treat her with respect and love was love to to read. So many heroines are either kick ass or helpless, Rikki was neither. She is strong, independent, but very rigid in her daily life.
So will Levi and Rikki have a life by the sea? Or will both their pasts come back and haunt them?

Saturday’s Post

Can’t believe it’s been a year already. Want to thank the people who follow me, and the people who just come in and have a look.
Hope your all having a good weekend. Mine starts with a day at work. A cold and really windy walk this morning.
I’ve done that many a time, and then panicked, will the book end on a cliffhanger? Or will it just end? That’s the book I don’t like.

Delivery day, and guess what? Yes I’m on my own!! It’s a fair sized delivery, and it started to rain!! But I put my headphones in and got it done. It was a pretty busy day as well, so that made it go quicker, and a few work colleagues had a moan and groan, but that’s work for you🤪

How was your day?

I’m off to see my sister tomorrow, she’s thinking of moving aboard, so I’ve said said I’d help get her paperwork in order. And to spend a little time with her and my nephew (well if he’s awake that is 😉)

🦋

Friday’s Post

Hoping you all have a fab Friday 💋
As you know, I like to share drink ideas (well it is the start of the weekend for some people)
As long as it doesn’t make my book dirty, then I’m happy using most things to mark my page, but I do have lots of bookmarks 😉
Found some really pretty cool cushion covers this week. I like the watercolour effect on this one.

Had help today at work. And it made a real big difference. So instead of rushing around, we ended up sharing the jobs. And I managed to keep a lot of the prep I made in the fridge, I’m hoping I have enough in the fridge to start my day off. But as it was getting busy when I left work tonight, I highly doubt it. This cold wind is no fun to walk in at the moment, it’s strong too, so walking to work was a battle, but the walk home was a quicker one, with the wind at my back I made it home a little bit quicker 😉

🦋

Thursday’s Post

To be honest, I haven’t done that in a while.

Thursday is delivery day. Delivery driver is in earlier than usual, but I’ve been told not to bother coming in any earlier. So there wasn’t much for me to do when I got in. So I got on with getting salads out and getting ahead of the prep. A busy day, a restaurant full of kids that went through my pasta in no time at all!

And we have this one chef in at the moment, and he’s doing everyone’s head in at the moment!! He hurt his wrist a few weeks ago, and now not only does he tell everyone it’s painful, he does the poor me on an hourly basis, and my patience and sympathy have run out!! He says he can’t afford to be off work, but he’s doing damage to his wrist, and he’s driving us all crazy!! 📖

🦋

Wednesday’s post

Took my travel penguin into town last week for a little silly time. He usually only goes away with me on holidays.

Had breakfast with my friend this morning Then I was going to go to the library to read and study a little. But seeing all the young kids waiting outside, I decided to forgo that option and have a quick wander around town. And to top my day off, I managed to catch up with my friend and have a quick coffee before I went home.

🦋

Tuesday’s Post

Feels like this should have been on Wednesday’s Post 😉
I’d like to say that’s true. But sadly the UK bookstores are very limited to the genre’s I read🤨

Tuesday brought the sun. And a delivery day. On a week day it’s not so bad as I usually have help. And today was no exception. But as we were short on waitresses, Emma had to go help them earlier than planned, so that left me putting the rest of it away on my own.

It then got pretty busy, so I had to go back and forth putting stick away when I could. Doing desserts, salads and pot wash made my day go pretty quick. The unexpected rain before I left due home made it a damp walk home. And avoiding the cars that wanted to make a splash took a little negotiating.

Day off tomorrow. Hoping it doesn’t rain!

🦋

Monday’s Post

Monday brought a really cold wind. And I got to walk in it!! by the time i got to work, I couldn’t feel my nose or forehead.

We also had issues with some of the equipment at work today, so instead of serving salad to guests, I was elbow deep in cleaning 🧹 🧼 but the results were worth the elbow grease I used.

I also did a few extra hours after my normal clocking off time. So I walked home in the dark, at least it wasn’t as wind as this morning.

Hoping we get the kitchen equipment fixed tomorrow. Otherwise no telling what they’ll get me to clean😉

🦋

Sunday’s Post

Totally threw me today. My blog format has changed slightly, you’ll have to let me know if it looks different.

Rained on and off for most of the day. I’d planned reading, reviews a little housework and maybe a few phone calls😉

What got was a visit from my son. Had a phone call late morning asking if it was ok to pop down. He’s busy for the next few weekends and wanted to catch up, he also wanted to catch up with his sisters. I did try to tell him the weather wasn’t brilliant, but you know how kids get😉

🦋

Saturday’s Post

A windy walk to work this morning, and luckily the rain stayed away until I got there. But for the rest of the day it rained, and it rained, and it rained!! Delivery was half away before the rain came down. And it was really busy, guests coming thick and fast. So I concentrated on salads and left pot wash to be sorted by the others. And the children were playing up, we had a few issues at work, but I did keep mainly to myself. I was tempted to put my headphones in, but that’s frowned on!!

I think this bad weather is in for the weekend. So no shopping, just a chilled Sunday 😉

🦋

Friday’s Post

For those who celebrate it …… Happy Valentines Day

Had a doctors appointment today. Well it was to see my asthma nurse, had an early appointment which is always good. Hate waiting to see the doctor (why do they always run late?)

Then I went up to put fabric roses on my daughters grave. She loved Valentines Day, we use to put cards through the letter box for her. And she use to tease the rest of the family as she had more than the rest of us.

Work today was a busy one. I didn’t seem to stop today. But it made the day go quicker.

it’s suppose to rain all weekend!! I’m hoping I can get the delivery in before that happens.

Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

The kiss list by Sonya Weiss

Description…..

All Haley Bowman has ever wanted was her One True Love. But now, with her cousin getting married and Haley back in her small town, the pressure is on. Good thing she’s got a foolproof Kiss List, full of potential OTLs. Her parents knew they were soul mates at their first kiss, so surely Haley will know the same. All she needs to do is…well, kiss each of these guys…

Enter Max Gallagher: bane of Haley’s existence, her nemesis since childhood, and, unfortunately, as a local, her way in with all the guys on the Kiss List. Max wants nothing to do with love and certainly nothing to do with Haley, but he can clear the way for her to get to know the guys on the list. Of course, he wants something in return…. to be made a partner in Haley’s family’s business. One kiss for relinquishing her hold-out vote on Max.

But the more time Max and Haley spend together, the clearer it is that there’s a paper-thin line between love and hate. Max will have to decide between the job he’s always dreamed of or the girl of his dreams before his fate is sealed with someone else’s kiss.

My Review……
Max and Haley have been enemies for as long as people can remember. He lived to irritate her, she just wanted to graduate and move away. She always intended to come home, settle down and have a family.
Haley’s come home, but not to start a family, she’s hiding. After being dumped and it being filmed, this went from bad to worse. Going viral only made it worse, gossips made it twice as bed, and Haley is in hiding.
Max needs to get away from his family, after watching his brother and girlfriend leave town together, he has to watch them come back and join the family business. He’s extremely bitter, and wants nothing to do with it all.
Working at the Bowman’s family business is the way out he needs, he can work there full time and maybe become a partner.
The enemy to friends has never been a favourite genre of mine.
But the laughs along the way in this book smooths the way.
Max and Haley both vehemently deny any attraction between them, and in fact if Haley helps him smooth his way into a partnership with her dad, then Max is happy to help Haley find a date for her cousins wedding.
But the more time they spend in each other’s company, the more they see that person in a different light.
But when his brother and ex-girlfriend turn up and she’s pregnant, it brings it all back crashing down around his head. He pushes everyone away, including Haley. Can Haley convince Max that she won’t break his heart?
A few surprises that kept me reading, and the inevitable kiss and turn around….. From enemies to friends to more.
It’s a fun read.

Thursday’s Post

Delivery Day ……

Managed to catch up with a friend before heading off to work. Rain and wind for most of the day. Delivery was late, so we got on with bringing in the bins, switching the ice cream machine on and getting salad out and onto the cart.

Bringing in wet boxes is never a highlight of my day. And the cold wind wasn’t much fun either. But that wasn’t the best part, no I decided to wear a large pot of Greek yogurt!! One minute it’s in my hand, and I’m on the way to the fridge to put it away, and the next thinks I know, it’s on the floor, up both my legs, over my shoes, up the fridge door and over the bin!!! Luckily I had a spare pair of work trousers.

The walk home was dry and a little sun tried to peek out between the grey clouds.

Wednesday’s Post

In the Tall Grass is a 2019 Canadian supernatural horror film written and directed by Vincenzo Natali. It is based on Stephen King and Joe Hill’s novella of the same name.

Siblings Becky, 6 months pregnant, and Cal DeMuth travel to San Diego so Becky can live with her aunt until the birth to give her baby up for adoption. While stopped outside an old church, the pair hears a young boy named Tobin call for help from a nearby field of tall grass. They later hear his mother, Natalie, begging him not to call for anyone. Concerned, the pair enters but quickly gets separated and finds that their distance from one another changes unnaturally. Increasingly panicked, the pair decides to leave but is unable to locate the road. Night falls, and Cal stumbles across a bruised and dirty Tobin holding a dead crow. Tobin claims the grass won’t move dead things and buries the bird in the path. Becky encounters Tobin’s father, Ross, but they get separated in the grass. Tobin leads Cal to an ancient rock in the field and encourages him to touch it, but they are interrupted by Becky’s scream as she is attacked by an unseen figure.

Meanwhile, the father of Becky’s child, Travis, arrives looking for her and Cal. He finds their car parked outside the church and investigates the field of grass, eventually stumbling across Tobin, who implies that they already know each other, leads him to Becky’s rotting corpse. As Travis grieves, he loses sight of Tobin. The next morning, he takes a necklace out of the corpse’s pocket. At the same time, a seemingly earlier version of Tobin arrives at the church with Natalie and Ross. Hearing Travis, who is now calling out to Tobin, their dog Freddy runs into the grass, and the family runs in after him, where Travis hears Tobin and looks for him. The family panics and scatters, with Ross stumbling across the rock and touching it as night falls. Morning comes and shows Becky and Cal re-entering the grass as they investigate Tobin’s cries. Tobin states that Freddy was killed. Knowing that the grass does not move dead things, Travis instructs Becky and Cal to move toward Tobin, and all four find each other. Travis tells Becky and Cal that they had been missing for two months.

The group spots a building in the distance and walks to it. On the way, Becky receives a phone call from someone sounding very distressed, warning them not to keep making the same mistake. As they walk, the grass seemingly enters Becky’s uterus, and she passes out, only to be revived by Ross, who then reunites with Tobin and says he’ll show them out. Ross leads them to the rock where they are confronted by a startled Natalie who claims she saw Becky’s corpse earlier. She then warns them not to touch the rock. Ross gets more agitated, Natalie warns he’s dangerous, and the others decide they want to leave. Ross wounds Travis and kills Natalie before pursuing the others, claiming the rock showed him the truth and the way out, but that he doesn’t want to leave.

Becky, Cal, Travis, and Tobin reach the abandoned building, and while scouting, Travis and Cal discover that Freddy has managed to escape the field via a “hole” that leads to the road. A jealous Cal, who is implied to have incestuous feelings for Becky, lets go of Travis as he slips, causing him to fall off the roof. Tobin witnesses this flees into the field when Ross follows them to the roof. The two follow Tobin, but Becky refuses to leave Travis and goes back as Cal flees, Cal is strangled to death by Ross, and it is revealed they are in a time loop, with Cal permanently being hunted by an insane Ross in the grass. Travis has survived the fall and goes searching for Becky. They can hear each other on opposite sides of the field, and Becky admits she was going to give up the baby for adoption.

Becky is attacked by Ross but escapes after stabbing him in the eye, and a thunderstorm begins. Becky is confronted by Grass Creatures, who carry her to the rock, which has prophetic markings relating to Becky’s pregnancy. Becky frantically makes a phone call, pleading for her past self to prevent Cal from hurting Travis. After seeing a horrific vision underneath the rock, she passes out. She awakens to find Cal caring for her and feeding her with what is revealed to be her baby. Becky slowly realizes that she was hallucinating “Cal,” who is revealed to be Ross. Moments later, Travis stumbles across Becky’s unconscious body. Tobin finds him, and they are confronted by Ross, who mortally wounds Travis. As Ross tries to make Tobin touch the rock, Becky attacks Ross and scratches out his other eye with her necklace, before dying from her wounds. Travis kills Ross and then realizes the only way to understand the grass is to touch the rock. Travis touches the rock and sees a series of strange visions. He then grabs Tobin’s hand and guides him through the grass to an exit, instructing him to stop Becky and Cal from entering the grass.

Tobin emerges in the church across the road just as Becky and Cal are about to enter the grass and convinces them to stay out by showing them Becky’s necklace that Travis gave him, hence closing the loop. Becky decides to keep her baby as they drive back home. Travis listens to them leave and dies peacefully in the grass.

Then we started watching a series …..

Emerald: A Dark Mafia Romance (Colours of Crime Book 5) by Sophie Lark

Description….

She tried to kill me…

She crept into my room with a syringe full of poison.

Now she’s my prisoner.

She refuses to tell me who sent her or why.

But I’ll get every last secret out of her. Through pleasure or through punishment.

I captured her and now she belongs to me…

“Emerald” is a dark and dominating mafia romance, Book 5 in the Colors of Crime series. It’s a stand-alone novel, full of intrigue, danger, and sexy bedroom scenes. Contains spanking, so if such material offends you, do not read.

My Review……
Not read any of the previous books, but that doesn’t matter in the least.
Sloane or “The Angel of Death” as she is known Is an assassin, a killer for hire, and she’s good at her job, methodical and clean, her daddy taught her plenty of lessons and not all of them were easy, but they were valuable. Five long years and now she’s at the top of her game, this should have been an easy job …..
Ivan is a Bratva Boss, ruthless and cold. No time for a life, the Bratva is his life, and he can’t see that changing. His only other love is his brother, there is nothing he wouldn’t do for his younger brother.
A business deal has gone wrong, and now he has to tie up loose ends, why can’t people just doing there jobs?!
Now, I’m not a big mafia reader, to romanticise criminal bosses in my book is a big no no, but I’d give it the benefit of the doubt. (Violent in places, I had to skip a few parts)
The plot is a good one, Sloane is hired to kill someone (at first I thought it was Ivan, that is later) she does that easy, but spots an opportunity to make more money (a flash drive) this is then when it gets interesting. Ivan is also fighting a hostile takeover (a rival gang has moved into his territory, and has taken something from him) he has to show force, and can’t have his attention divided at the moment.
It’s very well thought out and written, it’s making me want to read the previous books. Very descriptive, and a fast paced book. Written in the hero/heroine’s point of view. We have a sort of romance book, but I didn’t really get that vibe, there was lust and attraction, but not a real connection between Ivan and Sloane.
So….. will Ivan let Sloane go after he finds out why she’s there to kill him? Will Sloane want to be freed? And what type of torture will he use?😉

Tuesday’s Post

Cold start to my morning. Hat and gloves today. But at least it was dry and a little watery sun to keep me company as I walked to work.

A staff meeting and a delivery both on the same day (all the managers that have worked here, they’ve all picked delivery days,) can never get my head around that one, it’s not as if we get any extra help, in fact it’s sometimes harder, everyone wants to congregate in the area that the delivery is!!

Staff meeting …. well was it really necessary? It seemed to me a total waste of time… nothing much was discussed, we found out our Kitchen Manager has gone, and is to be replaced at some time in the future, and three of the chefs at work have thrown their hat into the ring (and to be perfectly honest i wouldn’t give it to any of them!!) then it was opened to air our opinions on where we are going wrong!! Well once that started I excused myself and went to help with delivery (it really was painful to listen to, everyone was ready to blame someone else for the lack of cohesion in the kitchen, too many Diva’s in my opinion!!)

Delivery…… thankfully was a small one, so both me and Emma (the waitress who helps me) managed to put it away pretty quick.

I got to finish at 4 today, so a walk home in the daylight was a nice welcome.

Day off tomorrow, and I get to spend it with a special friend.

The Stone Warriors: Dragan by D. B. Reynolds

Description……

It was a time when gods walked the earth, when armies fought not for bits of land, but for the very existence of humanity. On such a battlefield, five formidable warriors stood against an evil greater than any the earth had ever seen. But evil is not an honorable foe. Betrayed by someone they trusted, the warriors were cursed, one by one, tossed into the maelstrom of time, imprisoned in stone, their freedom resting on nearly impossible conditions. Until….

“Dragan Fiachna, heir to the curse of royal blood, a horror hiding behind a beautiful face…. you shall remain locked in stone until a maiden, untested and pure, shall find grace in your beast and safety in your nightmare.”

Dragan Fiachna, born to a life of loneliness, cast into stone by a sorcerer’s curse and imprisoned forever in darkness. He is freed at last, only to discover his enemy still lives and is plotting the death of millions in his quest to rule this new world.

Maeve Collins, brilliant, courageous, and compassionate enough to believe a stone statue can have a soul. Shocked when her beautiful winged man breaks free, horrified at the torment he’s endured, she dedicates herself to reuniting him with the warriors he calls family.

But she never planned on falling in love.

Racing across half the country in search of the only man who can stop their foe from fulfilling his merciless scheme, Dragan and Maeve discover they’ve unwittingly stolen the one artifact that can defeat their enemy. And he wants it back. Pursued by assassins, they fight their way to Dragan’s brothers, only to discover the war for this world has already begun….

My Review……
Dragan, reading these back cover I assumed he was a beast in manners and looks, but far from it, he saw himself as a beast, his parents gave him away to be a protector, a warrior. The people who looked after him as a child, did just that, there was duty only, no love. And even as a man, he knew only duty, women would want only his body, a s nothing else…..
Maeve is a total computer geek, online haves and programming is her way of life, the solitary life suits her. And the house she lives in, well that’s big enough to get lost in. Her favourite room, well that’s the one with her big stone warrior in it, a huge wingspan she sits under when she talks to him…..
As always the curse is broken by a woman, and a specific curse at that……  “Dragan Fiachna, heir to the curse of royal blood, a horror hiding behind a beautiful face…. you shall remain locked in stone until a maiden, untested and pure, shall find grace in your beast and safety in your nightmare.”
She spoke to him about anything and everything, until one day the stone cracks, and Dragan is free….
She’s a little wary at first, not believing he’s the statue in the room she often sat, she shared her thoughts and dreams with.
We have all the stone warriors freed now, and like the previous books, Maeve and Dragan make their way to Nick (or Nico) Dragan is unaware if his warrior brothers are alive, but hopes they are.
We have battles along the way, we have a few mysteries that may result in a few more books😉 and we have the evil
Sorcerer alive and wanting revenge. You see not only did Maeve free the warrior (he had him locked in that room, making sure Nicodemus would never find him) but she stole a valuable tool that could defeat the sorcerer. And he definitely wants that back.
I have to admit, I was expecting a beauty and the beast story, (that will teach me for taking the back cover too literal!) a huge statue with wings (thinking gargoyle)
The descriptions of the battles were awesome, I think the author might have watched or played a few online games to get a few pointers 😉
And now we have a sneak preview of the next story (which I’m hoping we get) Nicodemus and the mysterious Antonia 😲
🦋

Monday’s Post

Another cold and wet day. It stayed dry enough this morning for a quick coffee and catch up. But by lunchtime it was wet a d miserable. And that wind was a really cold one. We are suppose to be getting snow soon (no thanks) I’m hoping we get bypassed🤪

Delivery and a back of house meeting (or kitchen staff meeting) tomorrow morning, I’m hoping a quick meeting and a dry delivery (I’ll probably get neither)

The Stone Warriors: Gabriel by D. B. Reynolds.

Description…..

Until. . . .

Gabriel Halldor. . . one of the fiercest warriors the world has ever seen, but his tremendous skill can’t save him from a sorcerer’s curse. Trapped in stone and left lying in darkness for thousands of years, he is, at long last, brought into the sunlight of a Japanese garden, where a young girl comes to sit at his feet and read him stories as she grows to womanhood.

Hana Himura. . . beloved granddaughter of a Japanese mob boss, raised to the life of a warrior. When death comes for her grandfather, he sends her to the one guardian courageous enough to protect her from a sorcerer who will stop at nothing to have her.

Raphael. . . the most powerful vampire lord on earth, and the only man who can save Gabriel and Hana from an enemy who would enslave them both.

Running from the certain death that awaits them in Japan, Hana and Gabriel flee to Malibu and the vampire lord her grandfather called friend. Raphael is magic and power combined, and Gabriel and Hana will need both if they’re going to survive long enough to defeat their enemy and light the flame of desire that’s been simmering between them for years.

Now, this one I really liked. A more complex book, it really had me hooked…..
“URBAN GABRIEL HALLDOR, a berserker on the battlefield, a monster who drinks his enemy’s blood and wears his flesh like the finest cloth . . . you shall remain locked in stone until a woman’s tears shall soak into your skin, and her pleas for safety reach you in the chaos of battle.” That was Gabriel’s curse.
A beserker old, loving the battle and the cries of his fallen enemies. He lived to serve Nicodemus and to battle along side his three brothers (Damian, Kato and Dragan) but there was something beside the berserker, long ago, Gabriel had been turned into a vampire, with the help of Nico, he kept it on lockdown, his brothers never knowing of his anger and shame.
Hana has always known of Gabriel, the beautiful statue in the garden, she’s often sit at his feet and feel safe. And she’d know that one day he’d save her. Hana is a rare breed, she can amplify power, so she’s a power source that many would kill to obtain. Trained as a warrior by her grandfather, Hana has always known and been aware of magic. And when her home is attacked, she knows exactly where to go…..
The pair set off to find the only person her grandfather trusted, but by the time they get to Raphael’s home, Gabriel isn’t in great shape.
Raphael is a master vampire (or Lord in this series) and he has his story in several other books (Vampires in America) when meeting him for the first time, Hana was extremely wary of him, Raphael has power, it emanates from his very pores.
Giving sanctuary to both Gabriel and Hana, it allows them to catch their breath and rest.
Is Sotiris the sorcerer still causing havoc? (Hmmmm can’t tell you)
And where does Nicodemus fit into the scheme of things? The hatred between Raphael and Nico is volatile to say the least, (I’m going to have to go and read the previous series now!!)
We catch up with previous characters from previous books, the interaction is very comical, the love for one another is very evident.
So we have a feud that has carried on for a millennia, a stone warrior with a side order of vampire! A woman whose a conduit and can magnify a witch/sorcerers powers. And chemistry that just burns the pages 😉
Can’t wait to read Dragan (next book) and maybe Nicodemus can find a feisty female to keep him in line.

Book Review

Hidden currents (The Drake Sisters Series) book 7 by Christine Feehan

Description…..

From afar, Sheriff Jackson Deveau has always loved Elle Drake, the youngest telepath of seven magically gifted sisters. After a long time away she’s finally returning home to the small coastal village of Sea Haven. But someone has been following Elle, someone who doesn’t want her to make it back. And when Elle fails to arrive, her disappearance strikes fear in the hearts of everyone who loves her.

Now it’s left to Jackson to uncover the mystery of Elle’s vanishing, and rescue her from an unseen danger. But Sea Haven is no longer safe for anyone, and it’ll take the powers of all the Drake sisters and their men to survive the coming storm.

My Review…..
Elle is the youngest Drake sister, she carries all the gifts that her sisters have, and the responsibility of carrying on the legacy. (Seventh daughter will have seven daughters to carry on the tradition)
Jackson ex army ranger, DEA agent abs now sheriff in Sea Haven (long time friend of Jonas) has known Elle would be his, they connected when he was held and tortured. But he wasn’t ready, and to find out they would have to have seven daughters!! Well that’s enough to blow anyone’s mind!! But as she won’t give up her job either (she’s an undercover agent) it’s so frustrating to watch her and not be able to protect her.
Elle has been kidnapped, no one knows where she is, and it’s driving Jackson insane. He knows she’s in trouble (their connection tells him so) he won’t stop until she’s back home, and in his arms.
When Elle is finally rescued she’s different. She’s scared and has been conditioned!! It’s going to take time and a gentle hand. Elle now can’t stand to be touched (being beaten and abused will do that to a person.)
Jackson wants to tear the world apart, but Elle just wants to be normal again. And she also knows the man who took her, will come for her!! But her abilities were damaged when she was kidnapped, so Elle thinks she’ll be kidnapped again!
This was a hard book to read. To read about abuse is hard, the author pulled no punches. I loved this series, and a little disappointed with the ending, but still a good read. And I’m glad we get a spin off series.

Saturday’s Post

It’s the weekend. And will you find me? Well today at work😝 it’s delivery day, and what a delivery. I swear the manager must put the orders blind!! Half the stuff we didn’t need, and the other half, well far too much…..

But I got on with it, and got the majority away before help arrived!!

It was a busy day, and I was kept pretty busy. Thank goodness I finished at 4pm😁

A cold day, the wind making it even colder.

Dinner out with a friend tonight. It was nice catching up, just chatting and catching up.

Tomorrow is suppose to be a wet and horrid day!!

The Stone Warriors: Kato by D. B.

Until . . .

Kato Amadi . . . born of darkest sorcery, unstoppable on the battlefield, his magic is as deadly as his blade. But not even magic could save him from vicious betrayal. Trapped for millennia in darkness and silence, he is freed at last, only to find himself in the middle of a battle against the very beasts of hell he was created to destroy.

Grace Van Allen is a scholar of ancient languages who toils in the dim recesses of a museum basement with only a beautiful stone warrior to keep her company. But when Grace calls upon her silent warrior to help her translate an obscure new language, she breaks the ancient curse holding him prisoner . . . and frees three deadly demons to rampage through her city.

Tracking demons is what Kato was born to do, but he’ll need Grace’s help. And when they discover that Kato’s enemy is still alive and still plotting against him, their hunt takes a dangerous turn, one that might just prove fatal for both of them . . .

My Review……
Grace loves her job, translating ancient texts. Reading about life many years ago. Her only companion a beautiful statue.
Then one night she whispers to her stone companion that she needs help…..
Kato needs to help the beauty who summoned him. He’s watched her for years now, talking to him, and gazing up at him. The words the evil sorcerer Sotiris threw at him “ Kato Amadi, son of the Dark Witch, who for all his deadly skills on the field of battle, could neither read nor write the language of men . . . you shall remain locked in stone until a scholar of the written word shall plead for your help in understanding the wisdom of the ancients.“ came back to haunt him, was she the scholar he was suppose to help? And why now? But he knew why, the scroll she was trying to decipher was more dangerous than she was aware of.
Grace is in shock, one minute she’s finishing writing out the scroll, next, a thing appears from nowhere and is about to attack her. But a warrior saves her……
We then go on a ride, both Kato and Grace need to work together.
Kato has always been use to being just a vessel, not a man, nothing. So at first he finds it hard to connect with Grace, he finds her compelling, but so use to being berated, that he finds it hard to accept her way of speaking. He’s a Dark Witch’s son, but that didn’t mean he was cherished, he was used to fill his mother back up once she depleted her magic.
Grace adjusts pretty quick to the work Kato has dragged her into. She tries not to show pity to Kato (that will get him to shut down pretty quick)
And then there is the attraction that is simmering between them. But Kato knows it would only be brief, he has to know what happened to his brothers.
It’s a fast action book, lots of chasing, lots of twists and turns. A murder at the beginning of the book made no sense at first.
We also catch up with previous characters from the last book.
And then there his Kato’s mother!!! Do we meet up with her? Is there an epic magical battle? Well to find that out, you’ll have to read the book.
I liked this one better than the last. (Damian)
The characters seemed to flow better, and there seemed to be more story. And I do love a wounded soul, and Kato is pretty much a wounded soul.
So if you like your magic and muscle, then this books is for you 😉

Friday’s Post

It’s Friday. It’s almost the weekend…. I have a few drink ideas for someone to try😉

I’d like to say, thank god it’s the weekend, but as I work on a Saturday, it really doesn’t apply!!

The 4pm finish is nice, I don’t walk home in the dark now (which is definitely a plus) and as long as it doesn’t rain, I get a coffee and a chat with a friend.

But not today, I got the coffee and chat, but not the 4pm finish. Today was 5pm.

Book Review 👩🏻‍💻

The Stone Warriors: Damian
by D. B.

Until . . .

Damian Stephanos honed his skills in battles fought with magic as much as swords. Caught by a deadly spell that left him trapped for centuries in darkness and obscurity, he is finally freed, only to discover that his enemy still lives. Determined to find him—and to free his brothers in arms—he first must fulfill his blood debt to the woman who released him from his torment. Unfortunately, being so close to this enticing female is another type of torment altogether . . .

Cassandra “Casey” Lewis is a hunter. Possessing the rare ability to sense magic, she spends most of her time shadowing arcane collectors, and more often than not, stealing the dangerous artifacts she pursues. Her job is risky, especially when she’s stealing from one of the most powerful sorcerers alive. But having a gorgeous warrior by her side is a definite bonus. He’s great in a fight . . . and in other places, too.

Following a trail of dead bodies, the two of them must join forces to track down the sorcerer who cursed Damian, and who now plans to turn an ordinary magical device into a deadly weapon. Risking everything, including their hearts, they’re about to discover that trusting each other might be the hardest thing of all.

My Review……

Read the back cover I was expecting Gargoyles. What I got was better. Magic and adventure, with a LARGE amount of sex (a little too much in places)

Cassandra or Casey as she likes to be called, is sort of an FBI agent, but not a normal one. She has an ability that makes her a little different. She can track down magical items. She usually follows the trail, and if need be, obtain the item (sometimes theft is involved) And she’s been doing this for a while now, her boss Nick gives her a job, and Casey runs with it. She’s never really questioned it, (it was nice to have someone who believed her and utilises her skills.)

On the trail of a talisman, Casey has it, and is now being chased, and by hellhounds no less….

Damian has been a statue for a very long time, cursed and forced to watch life go by as a statue, for the last hundred years had watched the world go by on top of a building, he’s seen everything go by, but not able to interact. Well not until one night a wounded woman touches him, and asks for his help, it seems to have lifted the curse. He’s not sure how or why, or even why in this time period, but he’s going to find her, thank her and offer his services to help her.

He’s also wondering where everyone he knows is.

Both Damian and Casey need to learn to trust one another if they are to work together. They have no problem in the bedroom, but outside that’s a different matter.

This is a spin off from the Vampires in America series, and to be honest, I don’t think you need to read it. There are a few references to people and I’m assuming it’s to do with the previous series.

It’s a fast paced action book. We have a bad guy that’s looking for a talisman, and with it the power to bring modern civilisation to its knees. Sotiris has magic at his fingertips, and I have a feeling he’s been around a very long time. The chase and fight scenes are very good. Some of the conversation between Damian and Casey felt a little stilted.

It’s very detailed, and the characters are all very well rounded.

Chemistry between the main characters needed a little work.

But I liked the interaction between Casey and her boss, and Nick and Damian.

But as I said, a little too much sex, was it a filler? Maybe, but turn it into a novella if you are struggling (well that’s my opinion)

It’s a five book series (I think) so I’m looking forward to seeing if the next book is as good.

Wednesday’s Post

Day off today. And after a live my lunch and catch up with my BFF, I did a little shopping and then into the library to do some of my course work. I had company today 😉this is my travel penguin, took him out today.

I managed to go and see my daughter. I replaced the real flowers with the artificial ones that I’d brought.

My Review…..
I’ve read a few of the authors books, but nothing from Darling Cove. I don’t think I missed anything from not reading the others in this series.
Book 5 sees Lily praying she’s not pregnant. After 5 years of knowing Carter, six months ago they took the plunge and started seeing each other, lily knows it won’t be forever, he said as much. Plus he’s a really rich guy, she’s not got the right pedigree to marry into the Holden empire. Lily knows he won’t want to be saddled with her and a baby. And as she has trust issues anyway (her adopted parents loved her intensely, until they had a biological child, Lily then got forgotten)she can’t let Carter get too close, it was only meant to be fun.
Carter isn’t your usual rich guy, he works and he works hard. He loves his mother and hates the fact she’s dying, but what really hurts is his father, he looks at his son as an investment m, but worse, he’s taking her money. And he feels like he’s on borrowed time…..
He thought lily was having a good time, he thought he was proving to her that what they had together meant more than just fun. And when Lily announces she’s pregnant, his gut told him “mine” then she throws out she’s leaving the place they both work at. What will it take for Carter to show Lily she means more than just a few fun nights. He wants more…..
The book plays out of a forty eight hour period. (Yes they’ve been seeing each other for six months, and known each other for five years)
I liked the fact is a dysfunctional family. Lily with her trust issues, but knowing she will be there for her baby.
Carter the doting and caring son, but also the hot guy and potential father.
I liked the thought process that Lily went through. Didn’t like the thought she could terminate Carter’s rights. Liked how other friends and family members had their say, and valid points.
Carter’s family was a right mixed up bunch. A father who thought he was entitled to run his family like a dictatorship, wasn’t too keen on him.
And when Carter asks her to be his “fake” fiancée! Will she help him out?
So will Lily let Carter see his baby? Will he be brave enough to fight for what he really wants?

Tuesday’s Post

Delivery day. But first coffee and a catch up.

Delivery was only a small one today, so by the time I got in, it was already in, I just had to put it away and then start on my salad prep.

The dishwasher was still broken until late afternoon, so it was washing by hand!! Thankfully it was fixed, and I was able to catch up.

I also did a few hours extra (one of the chefs had broken a finger) I got pot wash up to date and salad prep all sorted.

🦋

Monday’s Post

A cold start to the day, and it didn’t really warm up at all!!

Dishwasher at work is broken. So it’s all having to be hand washed!! What a nightmare!! We were pretty lucky it was a quiet Monday. I got lots washed up, but not much prep (in my defence, I was waiting for cling film) so it will be interestingly to how much is done tonight.

As I said last night, my husband and son are away for a few days. I got these pictures earlier.

Kiev or Kyiv

(Ukrainian: Київ, Kyiv; Russian: Киев, Kiyev) is the capital and most populous city of Ukraine. It is in north-central Ukraine along the Dnieper River.

By all accounts it’s a little chilly 🤭

Sunday’s Post

My son has taken his dad away for a few days. So I get the house to myself, so telly hasn’t been on, the house has been silent, I’ve managed to get a few books reviewed and I’ve started my counselling course. They are back in a few days time, so I’m making the most of the quiet.

Book Review 📖

Turbulent Sea (A Drake Sisters Novel) book 6 by Christine Feehan

Description…..
Joley Drake was born with a legacy of unexpected magical gifts, but it was the gift of singing that made her an overnight sensation—a rock and roll goddess trapped by fame, fortune, and ambition. Heated by the flush of success, Joley could have any man she wanted. But there’s only man who can give her what she really needs…

Ilya Prakenskii is cool, inscrutable, dangerously sexy, and working in the shadow of his infamous reputation—that of a secret Russian hit man on the payroll of a notorious mobster. He’s the last man Joley should get close to, yet when her life is threatened on tour she has nowhere left to turn. But in the seductive safe keep of Ilya’s embrace, is Joley really as secure as she imagines?
My Review……
This was another of my favourites in this series.
Joley the troublemaker, the attention seeker, the firebrand.  But deep down she wants a home and family, yes she has her sisters, her parents and extended family. But she wants a family of her own.
Her gift is songs, she can influence people with her voice, a little like Abigail. She’s a world renowned singer, and has her own stalkers!!!
Ilya has his own checkered past, a bodyguard for someone he hates. He longs for a quiet life, but knows he will probably die trying to kill his target. Then he meets her……
They’ve met in a few previous books, and sparks have flown ever since.  She tried to zap him with her magic, he turned it back on her. And now she wears his mark.
The guy Ilya is working for, is the type of man you don’t cross. He wants Joley but Ilya will make sure that never happens.
Joley tried to deny the connection they have. He speaks to her at night (telepathically) wearing her down, she does want one night, she wants forever, but the man he works for is dangerous.
Will Ilya convince Joley that they are meant to be together? And what are the secrets he’s hiding?
This book sets the spin off series up, we have one more Drake sister (Elle) and then it’s onto The Sisters of the Heart or Sea Haven. The women are sisters of circumstance, but it’s the men in their lives that are link!!!

Saturday’s Post

So England left the European Union last night. I personally don’t think it was a good idea. But that’s my opinion. But I’m getting off point, we had a crazy amount of fireworks last night!! I’d say more than for the New year celebrations!! Crazy!! A cold and chilly walk to work this morning. Drizzled on a day off for some of the day. Delivery was fun and games, I had envisioned me doing it all on my own. But I actually got help. Albeit because the manager was in and watching it all being put away. But I’ll take help no matter the circumstances.

I swear I work with either a bunch of idiots or children. Still trying to decide which one!! Why we can’t have a shift without drama I’ll never know!! We have a rule at the moment (no music in the kitchen) it all stems from some of the staff having dubious tastes in music, and playing it too loud. So now we can only play it before we open the restaurant. It we have a few children who work in the kitchen, who like to think the rules don’t apply to them!!

Book Review 📱

A Shifter Christmas by Emilia Hartley

This is a three book anthology. They aren’t linked. And can be read in any order.

Book 1: A Dragon’s Christmas

Description…..

Frankie Peters can’t wait to get home for Christmas even if her mom will insist on calling her Francine. She’d be even more excited if she weren’t worried about how the new beast inside her will react to the close quarters and tons of people. She needs her family, but she’s afraid of the monster she’s become.

When she gets buried in a snowdrift during the blizzard on the way, a stranger comes to her rescue—a gorgeous, dragon shifter. Atticus gets her car back on the road and teaches her a little about how to tame her beast. He seems at loose ends, and says he’ll keep mentoring her, so she invites him home.

The trouble is, she wants Atticus for much more than a mentor and doesn’t know how to tell him. Is it too much to hope for a Christmas miracle that puts all the messed-up parts of her life together?

My Review…..

Francine or Frankie as she prefers to be called was bitten by a strange dog over a year ago, and now she’s always angry, frustrated and scared. The beast inside her wants out, and Frankie is tired of having to keep it in and quiet. She’s hoping visiting her family for Christmas will help, otherwise she sees herself alone…..
Atticus is a dragon shifter, his beast is too big for this world, the dragon is too bossy and dominant to live around anyone, so it went to sleep, intending to sleep the years away. But something woke both Atticus and his dragon. Digging out of the cave they were in, the dragon searches for the reason it woke…..
Atticus and Frankie meet in a snow drift, Frankie isn’t scared of a naked man in the snow. And she smells like a shifter, so Atticus assumes she’s a shifter, but she’s scared of the power inside herself, why?
Together they rescue people stuck in an accident, it’s all going great, until an idiot calls them freaks. This sends Frankie back into her shell.
We meet quite a few characters, so hoping they would all get a book.
Both Frankie and Atticus have trust issues, both need to be part of a family, but unsure of their welcome.
We have the bad guy, we have the dysfunctional family and we have a couple just waiting for someone.
It’s a short story, but it’s full of action.

Book 2: A Polar Bear Christmas

Description…..

As the only human in a long line of beautiful and proud reindeer shifters, Holly Carter has borne contempt and abuse from her family for years. She avoids the cutesy Christmas enclave they’ve built whenever she can, but somehow her mother always convinces her to come home for the holidays.

This year, though, she meets Claus, a polar bear shifter from a crime conglomerate looking to shake down one of her cousins. When Holly and Claus concoct a fake relationship that will get Holly protection and Claus access to his target, they don’t expect it to go anywhere. But the relationship soon feels more real than fake. It would be perfect if only Holly weren’t convinced she’s not worthy to mate a shifter and Claus weren’t convinced that he’s got too much blood on his hands to mate to any woman.

Can Holly and Claus convince each other of their true value in time to salvage their bond?

My Review……

Poor Holly always being bullied, she can’t anything right. Total failure!! Being a human in a shifter family is hard, but being a non shifter in the Carter clan is a nightmare, she’s always been found wanting, and all because she can’t shift into a reindeer. No wonder she hates coming home.
Maybe this year might be different!
Claus needs to collect something, and he’s found out who has it, getting into the Carter household might prove a problem. They are a very close knit family. No outsiders, they are very cautious. How will he get in?
Holly and Claus meet at a bar. They strike up a bargain, she gets a date and possibly a buffer from the family. He gets to nab the stolen item. Sounds like both are onto a winning solution. But you get the notion that it won’t be that simple.
Spending time with Holly has Claus looking at his own life, his job is everything to him, he owes his alpha and intends not to let him down. But watching her with her family, Claus just wants to protect her, but that can’t happen, once he has what he came for, he’s gone.
I liked this one, we have a big, bad bear and a non shifting reindeer. The way Claus stands up for Holly is good. How he views family as something that isn’t the same for everyone. How Holly finally stands up for herself had me smiling to myself.
Will he want to stick around and be there for Holly? Or will he go once he has what he has come for?

Book 3: A Snow Leopard’s Christmas

Description…..

Ellie was just looking for a normal holiday.
She had planned to spend it with her family. Her mother, father and her baby boy, Casper.
When Nolan showed up, things took a turn for the worst.
She couldn’t believe him. Why would he return after all these years? She didn’t need him then, and she doesn’t need him now. Though, she had to admit. Casper and Nolan seemed to get along together really well…

My Review……
Not my favourite if I’m being honest.
Ellie is a single mum, she loves her little boy so very much. She works from home as a wedding chef (doesn’t actually say what she does) But he’s a live wire, he’s into everything.
Her parents are here for Christmas. And I have to admit, I find Ellie’s mum really hard work, she was always putting her down, always finding faults with her and her parenting techniques, wanting her to find a “proper job”
All Ellie wanted was her family around her over Christmas.
Nolan has spent the last four years travelling, and now he’s back in this tiny village, the one thing drawing him back was a passionate night with a woman he’s tried to forget.
But the meeting didn’t go as he had planned. She didn’t seem to be pleased to see him, in fact she’s really angry.
When Nolan finds out he’s a father to a four year old, at first he’s angry, how dare she keep this a secret. But later having time to think, he realises she didn’t have any way of reaching him. But all that is about to change. She is his mate, and they have a child, he’s not going anywhere. But convincing Ellie is proving harder than he imagined.
We have a couple who are fighting their feelings for one another, we also have Ellie fighting to convince her parents she’s a good mother. We have a stalker, so we have the blocks for a good story. But it was sadly lacking on content.
