JUDGMENT ROAD (A Torpedo Ink series) book 1 by Christine Feehan.

Description……

As the enforcer of the Torpedo Ink motorcycle club, Reaper lives for riding and fighting. He’s a stone-cold killer who turns his wrath on those who deserve it. Feelings are a weakness he can’t afford—until a gorgeous bartender gets under his skin…

Near Sea Haven, the small town of Caspar has given Anya Rafferty a new lease on life. And she’s desperate to hold on to her job at the biker bar, even if the scariest member of the club seems to have it out for her. But Reaper’s imposing presence and smoldering looks just ratchet up the heat.

Anya’s touch is everything Reaper doesn’t want—and it brands him to the bone. But when her secrets catch up to her, Reaper will have to choose between Anya and his club–his heart and his soul.

My Review……

Savva “Reaper” Pajari had only known happiness for a short time, then it was ripped away from him. Watched in horror as his parents were murdered. Taken from his home, he was sent to a school like no other. He watched as his sisters were killed in front of him, his baby brother tortured and abused, he felt so helpless. He wasn’t left alone either, so horribly beaten, tortured and abused, no wonder a wall came down around his heart.  His saviour came as a ten year old boy “Czar” (also known as Viktor Prakenskii) his undying loyalty to this boy was never in any doubt, and as his way of repaying “Czar” he became his bodyguard, his “sword” and later his “Reaper”.

He now has a family, he still has his baby brother “Savage” he has Czar, and his brothers and sisters from the school. He will die to defend them, he puts them all before himself.  They ride free, they have a code, they also look for killers and dispense their own “justice”.

Anya Raffetty is on the run. After seeing something she shouldn’t have, she needs to lay low. Finding jobs that will pay her cash in hand, living in her car, she’s scared.  Getting the bar job in Casper was just what she needed. Anonymity was what she needed, she came in, she did her job, she went home.

Reaper and Anya have a very different love story, he’s a tortured soul, someone who will never be able to have a normal relationship, and Anya is looking over her shoulder.  He wants her, but he’s not sure he can have her, he’s a killer, and he had so many triggers, he’s terrified he could kill her!! Anya is torn, she fascinated with him, but scared. One minute he wants her gone from the bar, the next he’s kissing her like he’s starving. He has her head all over the place.

But when biker business turns personal, Reaper has to make a decision, the family he loves, or the woman who is slowly becoming his everything.

The attention to detail is what I’ve come to expect from this author.  The fight scenes are great. The angst has you wringing you’re hands, and the backstories have you reaching for the tissues. But we also have some real funny and tender moments.

This series has a very hard hitting backstory. All the members of Torpedo Ink was taken as young children from their families and “trained” to be soldiers or “assassins” abuse, torture and beatings were a daily occurrence. So many children were brought to these “schools”, but only a few ever survived.

So social skills weren’t taught, killing was taught. So how could these children survive? They were all so very young. But in order to survive they formed a group, they called themselves “Torpedo Ink” they also took out every “teacher” and as they grew older, they disappeared, only to re-emerge and band together.  The open road gives them the freedom they never had as children. They have simple rules, but rules they all abide by.

It’s a series that’s just begun, but I hope that each member (eighteen) gets a book.
