Gold Fever: Treasures of the Heart by Lawna Mackie
Could it be true? The gold existed. A treasure map alluded to such a find, but for over a century it was rumored a fable, one told by an old crazy man—Samantha (Sam) Avery’s great-great-uncle.
One huge problem existed. Her brother Finn sent her the map and told her to run. Sam knew her big brother was in trouble and she had to help him.
In Dawson City, Yukon, Hunter Gray, outfitter and guide had been hired to do a job. At the airport, pick up a Sam Avery and take him to the old Charlie Avery cabin up the mighty river. What Hunter Gray hadn’t expected was for Sam to be a Samantha, who wore fashion designer shoes, had a sharp tongue and a goddess like appearance—the vast wilderness of the Yukon was no place for somebody like her.
Sam had to learn quickly. How hard could it be to ride a horse and live without running water and restaurants for a week? It didn’t matter, her brother needed her and Sam had to convince the ruggedly handsome man and his wolf… yes…wolf, that she was up to the adventure.
Spending night and day together, Samantha knows the attraction between them is growing quickly. Not only is Samantha determined to rescue her brother, but she must now save her heart from a man who doesn’t believe in love.
Samantha “Sam” runs a successful magazine, she’s good at what she does, and she enjoys it.
Her older brother is her only family, and although he travels extensively he’s always managed to stay in touch.
If she lost him she wouldn’t know what she’s do!
Hunter doesn’t usually take on strange requests, but the money was good.
But has he realised that Sam was going to be a Samantha, he would have run back to the mountain he had just come from. What did she think she was doing coming to this place? And in heels no less!
But she was a stunner, that was for sure. But Hunter isn’t going to take a bite, as much as he’d like too.
Finn is Sam’s brother, and he’s in trouble, he needs to send this map to the only person he trusts, but in do so, he’s placed her in grave danger.
He never expected his sister to not only come and rescue him, but to bring the map as well!
And when he’s captured and tortured, Finn thinks he may not get out of this alive!!
Reading this I thought of the film “Romancing the Stone”, rugged guide takes socialite on an adventure with the prospect of treasure.
This book had me chuckling at odd moments. Gasping at the scary moments and sighing over the romantic moments.
Beautifully written, and told in the characters point of view.
A fast paced story. (Lots of action)
The chemistry between Sam and Hunter was fun to read. The way he denied any type of attraction to her, and then kissing her senseless did have me chuckling. He’s adamant that he doesn’t have time or even believe in love. He isn’t or looking for love, after being abandoned as a child he learned to rely on himself, the only thing he cares about is his wolf Savage.
Sam agreed with him, a fling would be fun, but nothing permanent, she has a life and a job she needs to be going back to.
Oh and Emma, Sam’s best friend, I want her on my side if ever I needed rescuing😉
So will Sam stay with Hunter and his wolf? Or will the call of the city entice her back? Can Sam find and rescue her brother, or will she be too late?
And can Hunter keep his heart from becoming involved with Sam?
Hoping Emma gets a story. And Finn too.
