Book 5 in this series, and there is no sign of slowing down…..
Riona is a Griffin through and through, works hard and reaps the rewards. And at the moment, she’s on target to become a partner in the law firm she works for. Granted her uncle works there, but she’s going to prove to herself and others she deserves it only merit alone, and not because her family part own the company!
She has a boyfriend whose a surgeon. So people would say she has it all. But Riona knows if she takes her foot off the pedal, then she could lose it all, and she’s worked too hard for that!
Raylan “Long Shot” Boone is a relatively new character, we met him in the previous book (bloody heart) long time friend of Dante.
Works as a mercenary, he’s good at his job.
I like Raylan, he’s a fun loving guy, doesn’t put people down unless he thinks they warrant it. Likes to keep people on their toes. He’s met Riona just the once, and she made a lasting impression him, but he’s here to look after her, so eyes on the horizon and not her gorgeous body…..
I always thought Riona was a cold and emotionless woman. When interacting with her family, I always got the impression she through the she was better than at least her brothers. But this story shows her in such a different light. She’s angry that women do t get the sane type of consideration as men! And she never wants to do what is expected of her! So no children or housework in her future! You have to admire her determination and drive, but she’s also missing out on so much of life….. with her it’s work, work, work!!
I love the playlist the author puts at the beginning of the book. It’s also on Spotify (which I have) so I listened to the tracks as the story unfolds. Some I agreed with and some of the songs really worked with a few of the scenes.
This book although not my favourite (Nessie and Mikolaj in “Stolen Heir”) was still a really good story. There is definitely a spark there, Raylan knows he shouldn’t look at her that way, but she pushes his buttons in all the wrong way! And Riona thinks he’s not her type, but she can’t take her eyes off of him!
Riona has a price on her head! Why? No one can figure it out (and it takes till almost the end of the book, for us to see who is behind wanting her dead!)
So Raylan takes her out of the city and back to his family ranch, after a fire in her apartment almost kills them both! Not only is she out of her depth (she’s a city girl through and through) but the sparks fly between her and Raylan.
Can she give up her rigid control and be the woman Raylan thinks is hiding under that power suit?
The action and suspense won’t let you down, the descriptive narrative is as usual awesome, the intimate moments are wow! But I just didn’t get the same vibe as I have with previous books.
We catch up with previous characters from other books (which I always like) so you can read this without reading the other previous books. But why deny yourself the pleasure of the Griffin and Gallos families.
And I get a feeling there might be a spin off series (his tattoo is significant to the team her works with) 😉 we can only hope.
