My Gargoyle by Lawna Mackie
Ryder, commander of the Levarian legion of gargoyles, has a problem. He keeps dreaming on duty—and falling, neither of which gargoyles EVER do. Every dream is of the same woman, and every time, it brings on red-hot, searing pain in the crescent-shaped scar on his palm. Driven to find the woman and the reason for his bizarre dreams, he lets himself fall—right into to a place he never knew existed and to the woman of his dreams.
Labeled a misfit, Tempest was snatched away as a child and imprisoned in the hidden realm of Misfit Mountain. Locked up by Fedor, the ruler of the kingdom, who intends to take her as his bride, she has no choice but to brave the dangerous snow and ice of the Mountain to escape. Despairing, faced with the impossible choices of Fedor or death, love is the last thing on her mind, until Ryder snatches her from the air and into a whole new realm of feeling.
Can Ryder find the key to freeing her and save them both?
“Sorrow-filled whimpers escaped quietly from the faceless figure as the swirling snow danced to the howl of the bitter wind. In the darkness, a blanket of large white flakes covered the helpless creature. A desperate plea for salvation chattered from the trembling form. “Please…help me.”
The haunting words refused to cease. Over and over, he heard the voice followed by a familiar sensation of weightlessness and free falling.”

This had me thinking of a child’s program, it featured Gargoyles and their struggle to help the modern world.
Tempest is on the run from her groom! He’s not her choice, nor would he ever be her choice. His touch will probably end her life anyway, but Tempest has had enough, it’s time to escape her prison, and once she’s free, she’s off running!
Great! She’s managed to fall and now her life depends on her gripping this teeny tiny branch……
Ryder is feeling rather foolish at the moment, gargoyles fall from their perch when sleeping, but Ryder has, and it’s been several times now, the only thing he thinks it might be is the dream he has, but a commander of the gargoyles shouldn’t be falling as he sleeps! He needs to sort this and fast!
And when the opportunity arises, Ryder does what he shouldn’t do, he falls……
Straight into the path of the person he’s been dreaming about.
For such a short story, it was jammed full of narrative.
I would have happily read a longer version, I would love a series from this book.
And a Gargdog (half gargoyle half dog) he was so adorable.
Ryder is a capable leader, a strong individual who puts the needs of others before himself.
Tempest although scared at first, comes out of her shell.
But she’s careful never to touch anyone. It pains her, it causes her to vomit and blackout!
Can Ryder keep Tempest safe from her cruel master/almost husband? And will they give in to the temptation to try to touch one another, even though it pains Tempest?
And why is Tempest so important to Fedor? Why? You’ll find out why when you read the book 😉
