Distorted (Alabaster Penitentiary Book 1) by Nyla K
This is Alabaster Penitentiary…
Where they send you when the world thinks you’re dead. And trust me, you’ll wish you were.
We’re the stain on society. The freaks, the creeps, your favorite Netflix documentaries come to life.
They lock us up and throw away the key, because we deserve it.
But not me. I’m just a lowly bank robber. I don’t belong here, surrounded by psychopaths and killers with no remorse… At least, I don’t think I do.
Getting by unscathed is my top priority.
Unfortunately for me and my fellow prisoners, those in charge are more dangerous than we are.
You see, the guards run the show, and I seem to have caught the attention of the most twisted one.
He has a name, but it might as well be Officer. We move around one another like a sun and a moon, revolving in an axis of confused lust and torment until the truth is distorted, and the thing I once feared becomes that which I crave; my vile addiction, somehow so exquisite.
Reality warps in the dungeon, and I’m left wondering which prison is worse… the one holding my body, or my mind.
**Distorted is the first book in the Alabaster Penitentiary series. It is a full M/M romance, with HEA. Each book in this series is technically a standalone, though they are interconnected, so it will be recommended to read in order, as references to this story will be made in future books.
Distorted is intended for mature audiences and open-minded readers ONLY! If you prefer the same old story, this book won’t be for you. This story is dark, probably darker for some than others, so please proceed with caution, and if you’re easily triggered, steer clear.
You’ve been warned.

*DO NOT READ OR POST SPOILERS! I am begging you to think of your fellow readers, in your reviews, your posts… everywhere. Revealing plot twists is a dick move. And I promise, it’ll be fun to go in blind.
You get that advisement in the book, (DO NOT READ SPOILERS) so I didn’t, I didn’t read the reviews people were leaving.
Although I don’t usually let other people’s opinions influence me on my reading material.
So without revealing anything in the story, without giving plots away or twists (which I try not to do anyway) this is my review.
When reading the first couple of sentences you have to wonder why a petty criminal is sent to a maximum facility prison?! That question will stay with you all the way through the book!
I love Dash (I want to adopt him, smother him with motherly love) he made me hold my heart for almost every chapter he was in. Beautiful inside and out and so confused. He’s not prepared for Alabaster Penitentiary. We bounce around for a couple of chapters, before prison he’s looking at pulling a job to get money to escape his life. His father left him, his mother is a mess, and he’s just coasting through life…..
He just seems so disconnected to everyone around him.
Had so many faces (most I wanted to slap) on such a power trip, the things he did to Dash had me wanting to taser that officer all over the penitentiary! You couldn’t really get a read on him, so closed off, such an enigma!
And the story, OMG, the story blew me away, it kept me up for most of the night…. I had breakfast the next morning and went and demanded my visiting rights to the penitentiary!!! Reading the book again, I found a few things that I seemed to have missed (but I blame all that hotness that was bombarding my brain) and when a few things drop on you from a great height, let me tell you, if you don’t shout out OMG!! NO WAY!! Then we can’t be friends!!
Reading the afterthought the author leaves for you just adds another layer to this story, she makes you see things that you thought you had all sorted and clear up!
Dark, cruel, sadistic, delicious and heart meltingly good. You want a happy ending for Dash, you need him to be happy, and the more you read of Kellan, the more you understand him.
Side characters that need stories now (or tomorrow will do) 😉 questions that need answering. And the title does become clear eventually!!
Yes, there are twists, betrayal and hurt, but there was also passion, gentleness and a love that burns bright!
I’m organising a break in!! Lol not out. I want to watch the drama that’s unfolding in Alabaster Penitentiary!! Whose with me?
