Book one in the Intrinsic Values series
Aldric Beamer thought working in an antique shop would be safe and boring. He never expected to find his life—or his heart—in danger…
Being the low man on the totem pole is nothing new for Aldric Beamer. The youngest of three siblings, he was always the afterthought in his family, but Aldric’s trying hard not to let the little confidence he has sink any lower.
Aldric loves the job he manages to land at Intrinsic Value, so much so that he often works off the clock—or maybe he just doesn’t want to go home to his empty apartment. Just as he’s slowly learning to trust his boss and co-workers, he’s attacked outside the store, and all the security he thought he had vanishes with the force of a blow to the head.
San Antonio cop Darrell Williams takes one look at the beautiful, bruised man he finds in a dingy alley behind an antique store, and something in his heart melts. This weakness scares him, making Darrell gruff and indifferent when he should have been—and longs to be—compassionate and caring.
Aldric’s no pushover, though. He’s had enough of being ignored and treated like he doesn’t matter as much as everyone else. And he’ll make damn sure Patrol Officer Williams doesn’t dismiss him, in any way…

My Review….
Darrell doesn’t want or need anyone in his life, his family certainly don’t require him in their lives! He’s always felt left out, surplus to requirements, if that’s not the case then why does his father constantly ignore him then? And so his hookups are just that, nothing more……
Aldric desperately needs a job, his money is running out and his rent is due! So when he sees a sign outside a shop hiring staff, he quickly goes inside….. He gets the job and all is fine in his world, that is until he’s attacked!!
Meeting Aldric for the first time knocks Darrell for six, and that’s why he treats him rudely! Not being openly gay is a problem for Darrell, his family wouldn’t accept it and he’s not even sure his job would understand either!! But he knows he needs to apologise to Aldric. He doesn’t want a one night stand, nor does he want to be a booty call, Aldric wants to be loved and to love openly, chasing the officer will only bring heartache, shame his heart isn’t listening!!
It’s a first book in a new series. And it’s been a while since I’ve read anything by this author. But it’s a great read, and a series I’m keen to keep an eye open for. The secondary characters need stories too they were a great addition to the story. So can Aldric get the man of his dreams? Or will Darrell remain firmly in his closet? And is it the ghost of the dead man that’s causing the harassment of both the widow and Aldric? Or is there a more sinister plot?
Romance and a mystery thrown in, what more could you wish for.
