Kindle Review A Beauty So Cruel: A Dark Hostage Mafia Romance: A Modern Day Beauty & The Beast Billionaire Fairytale by Beena Khan

Description

I was a beauty, a stray orphan who witnessed a murder and the beast took me as his hostage.

Top 10 Bestseller in Fairytales and Top 50 in Gothic Romance and Vigilante Justice.

Once upon a time…

A Don by the name of Vlad Vitalli ruled New York.

He’s a mafia man. The leader of one of the five ruling families, La Cosa Nostra. He’s a monster. A trained killer and a cold-blooded murderer.

He’s tall, mysterious, with icy gray eyes, and he rarely smiles. He’s a criminal. Ruthless, cold, dangerous, and he is going to kill me.

I was the wrong person at the wrong time.

An innocent at the masquerade ball but I witnessed a murder. I become a target to the mafia who have a rule of no witnesses left behind.

To save my life, I made a deal with the ruthless beast. I handed myself to the cruelest man in the kingdom.

Just as Don Vlad was about to order the hit, I threw off my masquerade mask, revealing my face, and offered myself to him.

One look and I was doomed. He took me as his hostage. His captive. He didn’t know by taking me, Dahlia Hadid, he sealed his own fate.

My Review

Dahlia has been abducted, held hostage, been a witness to a murder, and then she’d seen a man’s hands being crushed, in her post ion I think I would have lost my nerve. And Dahlia does, but she also holds her ground. She’s a very complex woman, and one that Vlad finds both fascinating and frustrating.

Vlad is the Don, his father before him was the Don, so it’s in his blood. Trying to make changes is proving difficult, showing a force of strength is easy, showing compassion will get you killed!

It’s a little confusing at times, I don’t really get the beauty and the beast analogy! Maybe it’s because I read too many shifter books (I really expected him to turn into a beast!) but the further into the book you go, it all makes perfect sense.
The story is pretty easy to follow. It’s written well and explains things when needed. But for me I didn’t really connect with the characters, maybe if I’d read this one before the plethora of dark/mafia/prisoner/kidnapped books over the last couple of months that I’d read! Vlad just wasn’t nasty enough! And usually when the heroine misbehaves then there is usually repercussions, there was just a lot of threats!!

Additional characters such as Gabriele were great (he needs a story) hated his father Enzo. We had a cast of characters that were both good and evil, a fine balance.

I’ve not read any of the previous books and you don’t need to as they aren’t part of this duet.

This book does end on a cliffhanger, and what an ending (did not see that coming!)

There is a second book coming out soon, and I’ll definitely be pressing the one click on that one.
