Kindle Review A Paradox of Fates (Prevent the Past Book 1) by Rebecca Hefner

A Paradox of Fates (Prevent the Past Book 1) by Rebecca Hefner

Description…..

One woman bred to save the world…

Dr. Elaine “Lainey” Randolph was born with one sole purpose: to prevent the past. With her brilliant mind and unwavering spirit, she works tirelessly to solve the equations that will finally unlock the mystery of time travel. Then, she will leave the post-apocalyptic future her grandfather created and travel back in time to prevent his calamitous actions.

When handsome military captain Hunter Rhodes appears at Lainey’s remote scientific hub, he offers her protection. But there are strings attached to the mysterious soldier’s proffer, and Lainey finds herself wary of the man who stokes unwelcome longing and desire in her unemotional heart. For Lainey is a scientist, obdurate and dispassionate toward the notion of romantic love.

As Lainey’s band of ragtag scientists and loyal soldiers endeavor to escape the dystopian future, the evil New Establishment threatens to destroy them all. In their unpredictable timeline, the nefarious regime has become all-powerful and will stop at nothing to ensure complete world domination…

This novel is brought to you by a self-proclaimed science dork and lover of romance, fantasy and sci-fi. The reader can expect time travel shenanigans, smokin’ hot chemistry between main characters in their late 30s and 40s and twists along the way. Enjoy the journey!

My Review…..

Now I’m the first to admit, I’m not a time traveller reader, all that science usually bores me or having me raising my eyebrows at all the mumbo jumbo, but give me a SciFi movie and I’m there! (Weird I know) but I really enjoyed the book. The action was fast paced and it was all really well written.

Lainey is the granddaughter of the man who destroyed the world! Being born to parents who loved her, but was constantly pushed to be the best, the pressure to be the saviour of the world was immense. The goal was to return to the past and stop her grandfather from pushing buttons to start the War that ends it all!! She’s really smart, but socially she’s a shy person. I think because of what she knows she is so focused on her task, she doesn’t have time for socialising.

Hunter is assigned to protect Lainey and the project, but there is also another assignment that she’s not aware of! Is he really here to help, or to take over even the task is completed?

I’ve read this author before and loved her Etherya Earth series, so I had to see what this series was about. And I’m glad I did, Lainey was a genius, but with such a responsibility on her shoulders. Knowing she was charged with saving the world (hello Terminator) but having to keep it a secret had to be really daunting. The time machine seemed like a really interesting piece of equipment and we didn’t get too bogged down with terminology and techy speak! Hunter was a great character, a little secretive (but you’ll find out why) but a good person at heart. The story was an old genre, but with her knack, the author turned the mundane into an exciting read. I could totally see this as a movie/mini series, it explained enough as so not to bore me, but enough information to keep it interesting.I liked the explanation in the beginning, why they needed to return to the past, and how the future will save the past. A few twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and they kept me riveted to the story. Plenty of techno speak, but enough hot and heavy romance to keep us all entertained.

Watching these two fight their feelings is always a good read. Love is suppose to be fought for and not just handed to you on a plate! Lainey doesn’t think she has time to fall in love, she has a mission and nothing should come before it.

It also sets us up for the next book, it’s not really a cliffhanger, but I think you definitely need to read them in order.

So do I recommend this book? If your a time travelling fan, then I totally recommend this book. And if your a fan of this author, then you won’t be disappointed with her work here either.
