Depths of Destruction: A Military Romance (Behind Closed Doors Book 1) by Maggie Cole

She’s a Secret Treasure of War…

It’s a routine mission in Belize. Get in, get out, save the women.
I’m given Naomi’s photo and watch her hostage video.A stirring…an ache…a desire so deep for her heats up my blood and annihilates me.
Then I meet her.
It accelerates my thirst, riling up my inner beast.
She’s an investigative reporter and knows things she shouldn’t.
But all the women have secrets…knowledge about a global force so powerful the world will implode with greed. Freedom will no longer exist.
Instead of delivering her, we run.
The heat of the jungle is a blow torch demolishing my restraint, until I have to make her mine.
But enemies lurk everywhere. After it’s over, I’ll have to piece her back together again.

“DEPTHS OF DESTRUCTION “ is the first jaw dropping installment in the “BEHIND CLOSED DOORS” series. Each novel is a stand-alone regarding the HEA of the couple, but the plot develops with each story. This steamy series is for mature readers only and is best if read in order. This series may contain situations that may be sensitive for some readers.

My Review…..

Agent Andre Lòpez is good at his job, he runs a tight group of soldiers who run missions for Interpol, he’s never questioned his superiors, he’s always been a team player, he would never endanger the lives of the hostage or his men. This should have been a routine mission, but one glance at her face and he was lost, and at the sound of her voice, he knew his life was never going to be the same….

Naomi is in so much trouble, digging up information on a corrupt government has gotten her abducted! She shares the “pit” with other women, all have incriminating evidence or know things they shouldn’t! And her sister has been taken as leverage! It doesn’t look good (other women have been here even longer)and so to appease her captors she agrees to their demands….

Now I don’t usually read Rambo/guerrilla warfare type books. But I’d seen the author’s books around, I looked at the back cover and was intrigued. Definitely not your Rambo type read (don’t remember him get hot and heavy with any females!) 😆

But this was really good, and as it sets up so many stories for future books it gets you invested in all the characters. You want to know what happens to them all. You find yourself holding your breath as the escape plan is put into action. Naomi and Andre/Rambo/Clyde (she gives him nicknames as the story evolves) escape the camp she’s being held in, her worry for her sister is all encompassing (you’ll find out why later) all she wants is for Andre to take them both and escape, it’s not logical nor feasible, so reluctantly she leaves her sister to the capable Malin Cox (and a close buddy to Andre) From there on we are a witness to death, near misses, ex’s, torture, earthquakes and more drama than you thought possible. I liked the fact both characters felt a connection, but neither acted on it straight away (hello, in the middle of a jungle feeling for our lives!!) until a hot and heavy moment carries them away. Then those hot moments were continued throughout the book, but somehow they seemed to add to the story. It wasn’t over the top, it didn’t last for chapters and chapters! I just wanted them to catch a break and a really long sleep (didn’t get many of them either!)

Superbly written, this could easily be made into a film (or mini series) the action is non stop, from the time Naomi is kidnapped until the last page (nope, no spoilers) you feel like your running flat out! There are twists, there are turns, and subplots that will have you reaching for the next book.

Behind Closed Doors is a great title, because there is so much going on. You also get snatches of how the rest of the characters are getting on (and that in turn will have you gasping!) The plot slowly comes together, and by the end of the book your a little more tuned in, but I suspect with each book the plot will just thicken.

So….. Women are being held captive. They are rescued. But each couple go in a different direction. So the timeline will run parallel with each book. Each woman has something in her past that makes these women dangerous, and they are all targets! I’m so ready for book two…….
