It’s sort of the second book in a series, but it’s not really necessary to read it before this one. I haven’t read it yet, but I am intrigued by Juliet’s brother Romeo.
Where do I begin??
Donovan/Master is a twisted man! His pleasure is your pain! A master at breaking women and creating a pet/slave for the highest bidder. He is an emotionless machine. Nothing will EVER break through the ice around his heart! NO ONE can scale it’s high walls…..
You see into his past, and you can understand why he becomes the monster Juliet calls him. Watching his father abuse his mother, he recalls his own abuse at his fathers hands! And then his business partner takes him under his wing….. That man is the devil personified!!
Juliet, you first think of as a scared innocent virgin. And you’d be right. Can you imagine waking up in a place that’s not home? Wondering where you are? Who took you? And what will happen next? But the scared girl began to get angry, she would find a way to escape, whatever it took….
This book for the first half has me wanting to rip Donovan’s face off!! I’ve read plenty of dark/mafia/bully romances lately, but this one just didn’t stop with the mental cruelty and harsh punishments he put Juliet through…..
Even when she made a breakthrough with her “Master” the torment didn’t stop! You just wanted him to sweep her up and ask for forgiveness. To beg her for her smile and to know he was going to change. But that didn’t happen, he makes concessions, but tells her he will never let her go.
I nearly died when I thought he’d lost her forever, his emotions were definitely on show then! I had to chuckle at the outrage her brother brought to the table (and I think he has his own book with plenty of drama!) his double standards at what went on with his sister. I cringed at his business partner (that man needed a bullet to the brain!!)
So if someone breaks you down with torture and with beatings, can you really fall in love with that person? Or is it just your dependancy on the one constant in your life? Or in Juliet’s case did she really see past the mask? Or was she just so brainwashed that she had convinced herself that he loved her like she loved him?
So if you like your romance on the raw and gritty side, then this book is definitely going to tick all your boxes.
