Demons In The Rough (The Realm Book 4) by AE Jones
Description
Home is where the demon heart is…
Marrick is one serious demon. As the leader of the realm guard, he’s spent his life protecting the world from banished demons. Now he’s helping those same demons travel to earth to start over again.
On a visit to earth, he meets nurse Sam, a demon female who wears her heart on her sleeve. An empath, Marrick keeps his own emotions buried away. But the more time he spends with Sam, the more he wonders if he can open his own heart and start over as well.
Until someone sabotages the realm portal to stop the demon immigration, injuring Marrick in the process. When Sam steps up to help him, they both end up trapped in the realm.
Marrick vows to get Sam home again. Can he keep his promise, even if it means sacrificing his heart and life in the process?

My Review
Marrick is a guard in the demon realm, his job is to keep the demons there and not escape into the human realm. But now the demons are allowed to leave and settle on Earth, Marrick is feeling a little lost! But as soon as the demons that want to leave have left he’s going to join his best friend on earth. And Marrick is trying to release his emotions (keeping them contained for years had closed them off) an empath demon has to contend with his and others emotions, so his heart is just a beating muscle!
Sam only wants a little peace and a safe place to call home. So working at a demon settlement as a nurse sounds like a great plan. But Sam didn’t take into account that the demon settlement she’s living/working at is in fact the hub of demons being transferred from the realm to earth!
Book four has us returning to the Chesnokov compound. This compound is instrumental in relocating realm demons to earth. (There is a long and bitter history between the realm demons and the demons that already live on earth.)
We catch up with old characters from previous books, and the fabulously funny Kyle (she has her own series) You don’t need to read the other books first, but there is a little connection between each book, but it’s not a major issue.
Evading the demons for many years has Sam living on her nerves. Making sure her mother doesn’t end up being punished for a crime she didn’t commit. But the more time Sam and Marrick spend together, the harder it is to hide who she is!
We also have to deal with the portal malfunctioning! Was it sabotage? Or just an accident? There are still demons that don’t want freedom for the realm demons. So we have that to deal with too.
It was great visiting this series again. A slow burn romance that has lots of compassion, pain and a secrets. Can’t wait for the next (and possibly the last book)
