Don’t Speak by Dyan Layne
The heart always knows what it wants.
Molly wants him. He wants her.
She loves him the mostest. Aidan loves her more.
Even though he shouldn’t.
He’s heard the whispers.
Nothing but a tragedy.
A freak who hasn’t spoken since he was five.
And her stepbrother.
The heart always knows what it wants.
He loved her anyway.
But their world isn’t safe.
Nightmares are real. The boogeyman exists.
And somewhere, he’s still out there.
Waiting.

This story spans over a number of years.
Aiden and Molly as small children are brought together through their parents, Molly’s mother and Aidan’s father marry and the two become a family. Molly is younger than Aiden by three years.
Both love each other fiercely, she is his light and his companion. He is her protector and her reason to smile.
Aiden lost his mother through a horrific event (which we find out how in the story) as a five year old boy, and hasn’t spoken since! It does t stop him from being part of the family, but outsiders look at him as a freak!
We follow the siblings through the years, as they battle those feelings for one another. Aiden knows it’s wrong, but he loves Molly with all of his heart, it’s not wrong, but he knows he’ll break his fathers heart if their feelings are ever found out. Molly has so many confusing thoughts about her brother, she loves him the mostest (she says that to him all the time) but as her feelings aren’t always as they should be, she confused, what her parents and friends say if they ever found out?
They both need to move on, and Aiden is the first to do it!!
They are moments like a car crash that’s going to happen, you can’t look away, and as the impact hits you’ll come away bruised and confused. It’s how both the MC feel, they are drawn to one another, but when Molly catches Aiden with a girlfriend it tears her apart…..
Parting is such sweet sorrow …. But for this tragic duo they’re parting is anything but sweet! Their relationship grows strained and laced with tension.
Something has to give……
That a beautifully written story. You feel all the emotions that the author wants to convey.
You want Aiden to break through his self imposed silence, you want to hug him as both child and the man he becomes.
There was not one character surplus to requirements, all had a role to play (even the bogeyman) loved his new group of friends, they accepted who he was and never judged him. The parents of Molly and Aiden were great, Aiden never called Molly’s mother “mum” but he looked on her as a mother, and I just loved Aidan’s dad who took a young girl on and gave her the love her real father couldn’t.
So can they really be together? Or are their hearts always going to be wanting what they can never have?
This author is relatively new to me, i do have another one of her books on my kindle (red door?) and if it’s as good as this one, then I’ll be knocking on that Red door soon 😉
This one is going to become a paperback as soon as I can afford it. I want to hold paper and reread the story again and again, I only wish i could read it from new, and experience it all over again.
A highly recommended read from me.
Oh and the ending……..
