Tasting the Forbidden (Rogue Dragons Series) Book 5 by Emilia Hartley

Her mom always told her that dragon shifters would burn her to death for her magic, and now the local dragon-clan leader is hunting her down.

Nellie loves her small town, but ever since a rag-tag bunch of dragon shifters moved in and snapped up her friends as mates, she’s considered leaving. Even being in the presence of a dragon shifter can send her into a panic attack. That’s a problem since her best friend and coworker, Evangeline, has changed into one. To make matters worse, Evangeline is pushing Nellie to let her guard down around the hot but scary clan leader, Gavin. Never. Going. To. Happen.

The trouble is, Gavin won’t stop looking for her, and Nellie has used up nearly all her magic trying to avoid him.

Gavin Masters knows he’s a monster, but that doesn’t stop him wishing Nellie would keep even one of the gifts he’s sent her. He can’t stop thinking about her sassy wit, her soft curves, and her silky hair. His obsession with her has almost completely driven out the wild pain he felt when the woman he thought was his mate left him, claiming to be afraid of him. Unfortunately, Nellie is afraid of him, too—with good reason, he learns. Many of her ancestors have been burned to death by dragons. Gavin would never let anyone do that to Nellie, but he understands why she could never trust him.

Too bad he can’t convince his beast—or his heart—that pursuing her is a lost cause.

The last book in the Rogue Dragons series, Tasting the Forbidden is a steamy romance with great action and a satisfying happily-ever-after that makes it a great read either on its own or with the other books in the series.

My Review…..

Final book in this enjoyable series.

Gavin has been in the every book, but then so has Nellie. And although you know they will be together, the journey getting there did have me wondering if I might have been wrong!

His mate didn’t want him, so Gavin wanted after he left his father’s clan was to be left alone! But that wasn’t the case, his best friend Casey came to find him, and at first to bring him home (in whatever way he could) he couldn’t understand why Casey cared so much (i didn’t say Gavin was the smartest dragon) Casey brought other dragons from the old clan (or rejects as his father liked to call them) but when Casey found his mate here, he wouldn’t leave, and so Gavin found himself the leader of a clan of misfits (even if he didn’t want them) one by one his clan found their mates (even Erik who swore he was broken)

Gavin said he didn’t care, and maybe at first he didn’t, until one night he finds out that maybe the woman he fell for in the old clan wasn’t his mate (maybe)

His dragon is fascinated with the friend of Casey’s mate, but she won’t even look at him!!

Maybe he is a monster?!

Nellie has been told all her life that dragons hate witches. If they discover a witch lives close to them, then dragons will burn them alive! So Nellie has no intention of talking, meeting or accepting any gift from the leader of the dragon clan that now live in her town. He maybe gorgeous, he maybe hot, but Nellie can’t take that chance, so for the past four books she has masked her presence from Gavin. It takes a lot of power to keep the shield up, and Nellie has never had to keep the barrier up for so long! And she’s helping whenever the dragon clan is attacked by Gavin’s father.

Then the worse happens, Nellie’s magic disappears!! Without her magic she feels defenceless, and now Gavin will be able to track her……

This story was my favourite, you have to feel sorry for Gavin, been told by your father that your worthless, useless and wishing he was dead! No wonder he left the clan, but he was also about to be mated, but she couldn’t go through with it (that’s why he thinks he’s a monster) so leaving his fathers clan, Gavin finds a mountain for his dragon to defend. He then realises he’s going to be on his own, and he’s sort of ok with it.

But he’s not left alone for long, his best friend Casey comes to bring him back, and I could see why Gavin didn’t want to, so that’s why he was always fighting with the other dragons.

And then when he catches a glimpse of Nellie at a fire humans cause, his dragon wants to get to know her better. But she vanishes!

So when her magic disappears, Gavin thinks he has the chance to get to know Nellie. But she doesn’t want to know. And that upsets both Gavin and his dragon! But he perseveres, he’s gentle when he didn’t think he had it in him, he’s strong for nellie to lean on. Can she be his mate?

Nellie was awesome, she knew what she was and embraced it, and she knew that dragons were to be avoided. But how can you avoid them when your best friend bonds with a dragon, then said best friend becomes a dragon?!

Can she overcome the fear her mother installed into her?

Meeting Gavin, Nellie is both terrified and fascinated by the dragon/man. She swings between wanting to trust him and wanting to run for the hills.

But slowly Gavin wins Nellie over. Their attraction towards one another was lovely. He never pushed, he waited, he hoped, he wanted what his new clan had, a mate of his own…..

The fight that had been promised in the past four books didn’t really deliver! It was good, but short!

This series ended with a great book. And I’d recommend this book and series.

Arc Review…. A Rogue Dragons Series: Redeeming the Rejected Book 4 by Emilia Hartley👩🏻‍💻

A Rogue Dragons Series: Redeeming the Rejected Book 4 by Emilia Hartley

Years ago, Ford lost his clan, his mate, and maybe even himself. Now, he wants to be left in peace—until he meets Daphne, and she awakens passion in him unlike any he has ever experienced—even with his late wife.

Ford Coleman has been living a half-life since he avenged himself on his clan king after that monster killed his mate. He doesn’t know why he hasn’t lost his mind or burrowed into the hills, but for now, he’s minding his own business, working on his skills as a chef, and staying away from other dragon shifters, who might not appreciate a king-killer. He’s especially wary of the startup clan of renegade shifters who have taken up residence in his mountain town, even if he sympathizes with them. He’s considering looking for a new hideaway when Daphne, the sister of one of the new dragons, comes to town, and Ford finds himself yearning for her. He can’t have her, though. He had a mate once already, and besides, she belongs with her brother, with the local clan. After what he did, Ford knows he can never be accepted into a clan again. It’s hard to put aside everything he wants just when he’s starting to feel again, but he can’t let Daphne suffer for his past.

Daphne Albright needs a vacation, but what she gets is more work in a new location—her brother needs her to help his mate through the transition to becoming a shifter. Of course, Daphne wants to do it. That’s her job, and she’s good at it. But when she’s strangely attracted to the Uber driver she calls to pick her up at the airport, that’s all the excuse she needs to take a little time to herself. The driver runs from her, though, and she has to track him down. She tries to convince him that she’s not asking for a lifetime commitment, just a fling, but he doesn’t seem to believe her. She’s not even sure she believes herself. After all, despite the short time they’ve known each other, her heart breaks when she finds out he’s had a mate before. A relationship between them seems doomed from the start, but she can’t help wanting it anyway.

Like all Emilia Hartley’s books, Redeeming the Rejected is a steamy paranormal romance with a satisfying HEA. Fourth book in the Rogue Dragons series, it’s best when read with its companion books, but it can also stand on its own.

Reading Order:

Rogue Dragon Series

Book 1: Trusting the Betrayed

Book 2: Finding the Forgotten

Book 3: Restoring the Broken

Book 4: Redeeming the Rejected

My Review…..

Daphne is Casey’s sister, (MC from trusting the betrayed) she a competent dragon shifter, and has helped many humans and shifters acclimatise to their dragons.

But she’s also tired, helping newbies took time and effort, and Daphne needs a break. But when her brother called and asked for her help, she couldn’t say no, so she’s sort of getting a vacation and visiting her brother.

Ford we met in the last book (Restoring the broken) he’s a chef for the local restaurant, he keeps to himself, he’s a rogue dragon, and technically anyone could kill him. He’s loved in this town for a while, and for rather worried when

Meeting for the first time, Daphne is in shock as Ford drives away from her!

No, no, no way is he getting involved with the new clan that’s just settled here! He might have sort of helped in the last battle, but all he wants is a quiet life, and getting involved with Gavin and his clan will only get him noticed, and once noticed they will find out who he really is!!

Daphne is not one for letting things go, and this dragon has her curious, she’s doesn’t want a mate, but the smell he gives off has her wanting maybe a little taste.

This book then goes on the usual journey of Daphne chasing Ford, Ford rejecting Daphne. Then when Ford tells Daphne of his past, it makes her stop and think.

The coming battle with Gavin’s father draws ever closer, and when he comes to visit Daphne, the dragons wonder will this be the day it starts?

So can Daphne make Ford see that he has a future? A future with her in it? And can Ford look away from his past and see Daphne as his future?

I liked Daphne, she was a strong independent woman. She’s an asset to her clan, but no one sees the woman, until Ford. I also liked how she went for things, changing her attitude toward her King took a lot of thought, it’s been her only family, but spending time with her brother has made her see things in a different light. But can she move to a new clan? That’s a big step. And Ford you just wanted to shake and cuddle, his previous mate died in an accident? He’s never really moved on from that, and the fact he took his clan leader on and killed him left Ford with the unwanted title of “King Killer” being alone has suited his mood, he thinks he deserves to be alone. When in fact until we hear his full story, we don’t know why he did the things he did!

Book four sees us almost at the end of our journey, so I’m hoping we get the fight we’ve been promised.

And here’s hoping Gavin finally catches his witch.

Although you can read it on its own, I would recommend reading the others in this series first.

Arc Review….Rogue Dragons Series: Restoring the Broken Book 3 by Emilia Hartley👩🏻‍💻

Rogue Dragons Series: Restoring the Broken Book 3 by Emilia Hartley

Nobody with any sense goes looking for true love in a bar, but then nobody has ever accused Erik Beck of having any sense, either.

Maybe that’s why Erik spends his evenings tossing back enough alcohol to numb the monstrous dragon he inherited from his twin—the twin he starved of life when he was still in his mother’s womb. Maybe that’s why Erik spends his nights pleasuring women who will be gone in the morning. Maybe that’s why, despite both his dragons’ instincts, he doesn’t pay any attention to the bartender with kind eyes who keeps his glass filled.

Bree Halstead just knows she and Erik are meant for each other. Someday soon, he’ll tire of taking a different woman home every night and he’ll see her—really see her—and realize how perfect they are together. Her coworkers say not to get involved with the patrons, but Erik is different. Bree is sure of it. Or at least, she’s sure of it until one night when Erik seems sick, and she follows him into a bathroom to help him out. What she finds is an Erik who is totally different from who she has imagined him to be. And after he bites her, her opinion of him isn’t the only thing that changes. As a new world opens before Bree, her daydreams fall away, but the reality that remains is beyond anything she could have imagined. Bree is more convinced than ever that Erik is her destiny. Now all she has to do is get Erik to see that.

Restoring the Broken, the latest from Emilia Hartley, is book three in the steamy Rogue Dragons set.

Though it’s best read in concert with the others, Restoring the Broken is a perfectly complete story in its own right with a delightfully satisfying happily ever after.

My Review…..

Erik isn’t like other dragons, he was suppose to be a twin, but his brother died in the womb and Erik was left with two dragons inside himself. It’s a daily battle to contain his twins angry green dragon! It lashes out at everything and everyone, it’s exhausting for Erik to remain in control.

Brew works in the local bar, she’s seen Erik come and go, and likes what she sees, but knows she won’t be one of the endless women that goes home with him. But given a chance she’d go, but she also knows he’s never really looked at her, so she’s just going to watch him from the end of the bar!

I’ve got a soft spot for Erik, the misfit, the one dragon that doesn’t fit the clan.

We meet Erik in book one, a surly male with a don’t care attitude. But he does care, he wants to be part of this new clan, he doesn’t want to go back to his old clan (they were looking for a reason to kill him anyway!)

This story take a surprising turn when Erik accidentally bites (or rather the green dragon) Bree as she tries to comfort him (she finds him in the men’s toilet in pain) getting home and passing out, Bree convinces herself it was just a dream, but as she remembers what happened she needs to find out if Erik is ok…..

Erik is horrified! The poor barman was only trying to help abs he bit her!! He just has to wait to see if she becomes a dragon!!

I liked this story, I was hoping Erik got a mate, he seemed so lost and a dry all the time. And now we know why, having a grumpy dragon is bad enough, but a docile blue dragon and a hostile green dragon inside battling for supremacy has to be draining.

Bree was a lovely character, sensible, practical and level headed (just what an angry dragon shifter needs) she took what life had thrown at her and rolled with it.

And then to find out she’s now a dragon shifter, what’s a girl to do? She just gets on learning to be a dragon.

The battle that is always looming draws ever closer (Gavin’s father is coming to battle and kill this new clan) and new mates need to be taught how to cope with their new abilities. Spies are sent to the town to watch and report back.

And a lone dragon that wants nothing to do with this new clan has been discovered in the town, how long has he been here? And what’s he hiding?

Arc Review… Rogue Dragons Series: Finding the Forgotten book 2 by Emilia Hartley👩🏻‍💻

Rogue Dragons Series: Finding the Forgotten book 2 by Emilia Hartley

She’s escaping a manipulative boyfriend. He’s huge, big-hearted, and intent on protecting her. They’d be great together if only his protection didn’t feel like a new trap.

Nobody has ever needed Dillon. Not his mom, who dumped him with a dragon-shifter clan when his beast manifested. Not his adoptive parents, who never wanted kids. Not his clan leader, who sent Dillon with other misfits to retrieve his son. Not even the women he protected as a club bouncer. In fact, the only woman who looks at Dillon without any fear in her eyes is

Isabella, the pregnant friend of a friend who is crashing at the guys’ cabin until she can get on her feet. Dillon would do anything for Isabella—absolutely anything. Even give her the time and space she needs to heal after her last relationship.

As timid as her pet rabbit, Isabella worries about moving in with a group of dragon shifters, but they’re sweeter than she imagined, especially Dillon. The big, quiet guy is always doing something for somebody. Isabella will never be able to pay him back for all his kindnesses. Every day, her debt to him grows deeper and her attraction to him grows stronger. If only his protective nature didn’t trigger memories that put her in a panic, a relationship with him would be perfect. But maybe it’s best not to start up anything serious. A fight with Dillon’s old clan is coming, and her fearful, frail, pregnant-human self will be a liability. For Dillon’s own good, she has to leave him. It will break her heart, but it’s the only way. Dillon deserves better.

Finding the Forgotten is book two in the Rogue Dragons series. Though the books are probably best read in order, Dillon and Isabella’s story stands on its own—a complete romance with some steam and a very satisfying happy-ever-after.

My Review…..

Book two and it’s all about Dillon. He was a character in book one (Trusting the Betrayed) he was sent along with Erik and Casey to bring their Prince back! But as it turns out he doesn’t want to come back. (In fact his dragon has claimed the mountain they live on as his!)

And now Casey is happily mated to a human Casey doesn’t want to go home either!

That doesn’t really worry Dillon too much. He’s never really fitted in with the old clan, he always felt like an outsider.

And maybe, just maybe he can find a mate like Casey did and have someone to love and protect.

Quick background….. Gavin is the prince to another dragon clan, but he ran away. His father isn’t happy and told Casey, Erik and Dillon to retrieve him. We find out that Zander (the king) has given them three months to bring him home, if they can’t he’s coming to get his son himself! (But Gavin lets slip that he doesn’t think they will go home, they will be killed!)

Nellie, Isabella and Evangeline are all aware that the strangers that came into town are dragons. And they intend to become their own clan (with their own tattoo) and live there.

Isabella is friends with Evangeline and Nellie. She’s a self publishing author, she’s had to hide what she does from her boyfriend, he’s not the nurturing type! In fact if it wasn’t for her two best friends, she’d have no one, and that’s how Tommy (her ex) likes it.

So when Isabella finds out she’s pregnant, she needs to get away, and get away fast, Tommy won’t like sharing her with anyone else, and certainly not a baby!

From the back cover I was prepared to cry, it sounded such a sad story, and it is up to a point.

Both Dillon and Isabella have been dealt blows in their lives. Nobody really wanting them! Being rejected throughout their lives has given them a very low opinion of themselves. So when loves comes along, who is going to trust that?

I thought Dillon was the quiet one of the bunch, but he’s also got a huge chip on his shoulder, he thinks that everyone only wants him for his size, so he needs to be protector and guardian, that way they won’t throw him away!

Isabella is just the same, she wants desperately to be loved, so will give in instead of fighting for what she wants.

In fact you want to bang their heads together sometimes! He was to quick to please, and she was too quick to see the negatives!

Moving into the dragons den (well the communal log cabin Gavin, Erik and Dillon live in) would solve Isabella’s issue of accommodation, she could also write there. They first have to get past Gavin (he really is a grumpy dragon)

And when they do, Isabella has to overcome her fear of big men and sudden movements.

But living with a bunch of rowdy dragon shifters isn’t as bad as Isabella thinks, and Dillon is so kind, in fact too kind, Isabella is always wondering what he wants her to do instead!

And when trouble comes knocking on their door in the shape of dragons, will Dillon be able to protect everyone (even though most are capable enough to look after themselves) Can he be the gentle man Isabella needs, or will Zander come in and wreck it all?

This book is more of a slow burn romance, which is good sometimes. We get more focus on the story and less bedroom antics!

Looking forward to the next book.

Arc Review…Trusting the Betrayed (Rogue Dragons)Book 1 by Emilia Hartley👩🏻‍💻

Trusting the Betrayed (Rogue Dragons)Book 1 by Emilia Hartley

Casey has a job to do, and it doesn’t involve going to battle for a pixie of a woman with ever-changing hair and a violent ex. He doesn’t have time to meet new women. His clan leader has sent him and a couple of other misfits to retrieve his heir from the little mountain hamlet where the man has been hiding out for weeks. He must convince his once best friend to come back home—or drag him back if it comes to that—before their leader decides to put them both down.

Casey knows he shouldn’t be wasting time rescuing damsels in distress in the produce section of the grocery store. But he can’t help it. And the more he tells himself it can’t be permanent, the more he wants the ethereal creature he met between the pomegranates and the bananas.

Evangeline’s grandfather raised her and taught her how to make a living as an artist—by inking her designs on people’s skin. He would be so proud of her for opening her own shop—and for finally dumping her abusive boyfriend. If the scumbag hadn’t stolen her grandfather’s ring, she’d never see him again. As it is, she meets him in public to demand he return her property, but when he shows up, she only escapes him dragging her into the parking lot for another beating when a giant, brooding man chases him away.

Evangeline tries to thank the stranger, but he won’t even give her his name. He says he’s not sticking around town long and doesn’t want ties here. She tries to convince herself that it’s a good thing he’s leaving. She’s attracted to the guy, and given her taste in men, that’s a sure sign the stranger is no good for her. Which is too bad. Even though she doesn’t know who he is, Evangeline is half in love with him already.

My Review…..

Casey is in town to find and bring his best friend and clanmate back to the pack. His father wants him home to begin training as future leader of the dragon clan, and so has tasked Casey with this job!

So that’s what he’s going to do, along with two others (I get the impression he doesn’t really know these guys all that well) so why he had to stop an altercation between a guy and his girlfriend he wasn’t sure. Oh yes he does, his dragon wanted to be near her (not a usual occurrence!) And after he scares the dude off, he’s left alone with the cute little human, now what?!

Casey thought his beast would settle, but it still writhed just under his skin when he turned to face the silver-haired woman. She was ethereal, slim enough that she would float away on a stiff breeze if he didn’t hold her down. Not even the weight of her earrings would keep her tethered to the earth. “Have a good day, ma’am.” He had to leave her. He had to walk away. If he didn’t… “Hey! Thank you,” she called out. Her footsteps caught up with him. “I don’t know how to repay you for that. Can I ask your name, at least?” Casey grunted. “I’m not here for long. Not here looking to make friends.” The pout that overcame her glossy pink lips nearly tore his heart in two. A tiny multi-colored gem winked in her button nose. He wanted to take her under his wing and keep her safe from whatever the world might throw at her, but Casey had been sent here on a mission. To keep this fairy girl would be to invite her into danger.

Evangeline has her grandfather to thank for her love of art and from there tattoos, she owns her own shop and loves what she does. What she doesn’t love anymore is her ex!!

So when the skanky ex boyfriend steals her grandfather’s signet ring, she had no option but to meet up with him. Surely she can reason with him?

The idiot all but accuses her of being crazy, and wants them to be together again, he tries to pull her out of the store she arranged to meet him in. The only person to help her is a stranger. But boy what a stranger, the man was huge!!!

First book in a new series. This usually sets the story, and this author is good at doing that .

Casey sets about trying to convince Gavin (the wayward son) to come home, whilst trying to keep his dragon from hunting down the cutie in the store. Talk about multitasking!

Gavin and Casey were best friends until he left the clan, leaving Casey on his own, he’s missed his friend, but was annoyed that Gavin didn’t tell him he was going (just up and left!)

His dragon wants a mate! He’s in no position to agree, he never thought he’d have one anyway, but with a war coming it wouldn’t be fair or safe to take on a mate, plus she is human, so shifters and humans? A big no no!

But you try telling that to his dragon!

Evangeline would never have to know that Casey was watching over her. He would keep his distance, because letting his dragon have her wasn’t an option. She had a whole life here in this little mountain town. Casey, on the other hand, had a mission and a clan to return to. He couldn’t mate this girl and drag her back with him when she had so many roots here. Their lives would go on, in two separate directions. This was for the best. No matter how much he hated it.

The ongoing attraction between Casey and Evangeline is fun to read. He thinks in terms of a quick fling, both Evangeline and his dragon think otherwise!

I like Evangeline, she was a very independent, fun filled woman. Quick to love (a little too quick sometimes) and loyal to a fault.

We meet his crew (Dillon and Erik) the wayward son (Gavin), and the dragon king Zander is on his way!

We get a little background on them all, so you have to wonder if these are the characters for the next series?

So…. will Casey convince his dragon to leave Evangeline alone? Can he get his best friend to come home? And can he keep Dillon and Erik from wrecking the town and from people discovering there are real dragons?

I can’t wait to see who is next in this series. And I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Arc Review…. Try as I Smite  (Brimstone INC Series) book by Abigail Owen 👩🏻‍💻

Try as I Smite  (Brimstone INC Series) book by Abigail Owen

Alasdair Blakesley is the head of the Covens Syndicate. He shouldn’t need to look beyond the witches and warlocks he governs, or his own abilities, to solve any problem. But a demon infestation means he can’t trust anyone who may be possessed. The last person he wants to ask for help is also the only person who can fix this, so he sucks up his pride and storms into her office.

And she turns him down cold.

As the owner of Brimstone Inc., Delilah’s passion is helping others with their supernatural problems. But Alasdair is the last man Delilah wants to tangle with. The infuriating man sees too much and demands even more. And did she mention the way he sets her body on fire?

Not that it matters—demons are the only things with which she cannot interfere. Too bad a higher power steps in and sends them both on a crash course of each others’ pasts, presents, and futures.

How is a Christmas Carol nightmare supposed to solve his demon problem without breaking the rules she’s bound by?

My Review…..

I’ve read many of the books written by this author, but only one in this series. (Bait N’ Witch)

You don’t need to read the others, they are only loosely connected via the characters, but not vital to read.

Alasdair Blakesley is leader of the Coven Syndicate, he monitors all the witches and warlocks. We meet him briefly in the last book, but you don’t need to read them to know what’s going on in this book.

We’ve also met Delilah in the previous book, she owns Brimstone Inc (it’s like a dating agency amongst other things) she’s a Seer, she uses her powers to help people and the supernatural to find love and solve problems) But Alasdair is a blank, she can’t see his future, and that scares her a little!

Alasdair and Delilah have met on numerous occasions, and it’s usually a battle of words and wills, but today Alasdair needs help from the woman that haunts his nights!

But he needs help sorting the demon possession troubles out, too many accounts are being reported, as much as it pains him, Delilah is his only hope!

But they aren’t a fan of one another, he thinks she’s an interfering busy boy, Delilah thinks he’s a pompous and overbearing warlock, but he is rather easy on the eye!

But she can’t help him with the demon possessions, no matter what he threatens!

It took a lot for Alasdair to ask that Seer for her help, and to say no!!

But there is a reason why she can’t help, but she can’t tell anyone why! And she feels Alasdair’s frustration. She tries to tell him of another person who could help…..

I loved Delilah she loved winding up Alasdair, and I have to admit it was fun to read. I can now see why both Delilah and Alasdair aren’t a fan of Christmas…..

Alasdair was a little aloof, but with good intentions, he’s head of the coven for a reason, sympathetic but sensible, and his control is legendary.

It’s a fun seasonal read, loved how the characters are lead through their pasts to see how connected they are.

There are a few twists in the book that did have me reading the sentence again.

Delilah and Alasdair are so suited for one another, her free spirit and generous nature would balance his control and dominance perfectly.

But when Delilah’s past is fully explained, will Alasdair listen?

The Coven needs him, but he needs her!! Could it get anymore tangled?

I would have loved this to have been longer, but the story is told within the confines of a short story. Nothing is rushed, nothing is overlooked, details are given and explanations are fully met.

Well written, with the descriptions coming alive on the page. A little sexy time thrown in for good measure.

So…. can Alasdair and Delilah contain or remove the threat of demon possession on a huge scale? At one point I’d would have said it was a huge task, at the end….. nope, not telling you, I’d rather you pick the book up and find out for yourself.

Bah humbug 😉

Orion’s Order returns in another addictive installment about their secret world of magic and mystery. A world where the most powerful words in the Universe are discovered in the fight against an ancient evil force.

I am haunted by my past mistakes. Mistakes that I have no idea how I even made. I am an educated mind and spirit healer after all. So how in the holy healer hell did I end up in a relationship where the male who I thought I loved…

Yeah, it’s probably best not to rehash those nightmares. But if I don’t dare open up that box to my past, then how am I ever going to be able to move on? Especially because I so want to move on with a certain sexy male. A male whose lips devoured mine in a darkened corner that one time. A male whose predatory piercing blue eyes practically track my every move. A male who I shouldn’t be fantasizing about every second of every day. Why? Because it would ruin me.

I’ve had my eye on a certain female for almost a year now. A female who is damn determined to keep me in the friend zone. A female who’s been hurt by her ex but refuses to open up to me about it. So, you could say I go through a lot of smokes… a f*cking lot.

Meanwhile, my pack of lethally trained and skilled hunters and I are gunning for an evil SOB who not only signed his death warrant the second he tried to come after my pack sister and mate to our alpha, but also the f*cker poses a threat to our world as we know it. Yet, said ancient powerful bastard has gone off the grid and is all but impossible to track.

Oh, and did I mention that the past seems to be mixing with the present? I mean, the f*ck is this? The revenge year of the shitty exes?

So, excuse me while I light up a smoke… or two.

Excerpt 1

Words. She needed to find words so she could respond because that was how conversations went. But words eluded her at the moment because she was still trying to recover from the debilitating tease from a moment ago when his lips were… Wait, you need to respond. But what did he say again?

“What do you use the second bedroom for?” he asked again in that curious feline way of his as he walked back toward her from the hall.

What do you use the second bedroom for? She had to slowly repeat his question in her mind in order for her brain to get with the program and understand what he was even asking. My second bedroom? Oh god, do I tell him what’s in there? She bit her lip in slight hesitation and he noticed, of course.

“What? Is that like your secret sex dungeon or something?” His lips turned up at the corners in a very feline way.

“Sex dungeon?” She laughed. “Of course that’s immediately where your mind goes.”

“Well, where else would it go when I’m with you.” He took a step closer to her. “In your home.” He closed the distance between them so they were separated by mere inches. “Alone.”

Her pulse quickened to a hummingbird’s pace and suddenly, she was back to being in the scorcher of desire.

Noticing her reaction, his mischievous grin transformed into his irresistibly sinful smirk.

She knew he was just playing with her but before he could continue, she broke the erotic tension between them by taking a step back and saying, “Here’s my sex dungeon.” And she didn’t mean for it to come out as husky as it did.

She opened the door to the second bedroom and he peered inside. His brows shot up in surprise before refocusing back on her in a silent question.

She laughed. “No, this is not my sex dungeon. This is my therapy room.”

“Therapy. Is that what they’re calling it these days?” he drawled, walking over to the pole. Without warning, he gripped the pole and lifted his body effortlessly so he was completely parallel to the ground. He gave her a wink and she laughed. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he climbed up the pole with just his arm strength.

“Good thing I had that installed for the highest weight class or else you may have fallen flat on your face,” she quipped, trying not to notice the way his biceps flexed and tantalized her feminine essence.

“Don’t insult me. I always land on my feet.” As if in emphasis of his point, he let go of his grip at the very top of the pole and landed softly on his feet with feline grace.

“So not fair.” She shook her head, still smiling. “I’ve trained for years and yet here you go showing me up.”

“I’ll gladly be the judge of that.” He stepped aside and held his arm out to the pole in invitation for her.

Excerpt 2

“Is everything okay?”

“Yeah,” he said, unsure where that question was coming from.

“I can feel otherwise but I won’t push.”

He cursed under his breath. Of course she could feel his lethal mood and the emotional storm he had been trying to keep at bay regarding the whole fucked-up Cecille situation. He set all of that aside and focused fully on Keena. Lately, she was the only thing that was helping to get his mind off the past.

“It’s just our case,” he added in a tone that was clear he wasn’t going to say anything else.

She nodded. “Understood. I’m here if you want to talk.”

“What if I don’t want to talk?” he drawled, pressing in close to her and sliding his hand to the nape of her neck.

Her lips parted at the close contact. Suddenly, all she could feel was the heated desire between them. He leaned down and claimed her mouth in a slow, smoldering kiss that took her breath away.

“Rhyker.” Her voice was a little breathy.

“Yeah?” He playfully nipped at her lower lip.

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she went in for the kiss and it was anything but slow. She slid her tongue against his and, suddenly, she had her legs wrapped around him with her back pressed up against the wall. He broke the kiss only to move his mouth to her neck. Her hands drifted through his thick and silky black strands as she moaned. The sensual sensations of his tongue on her neck and his body against hers shot through her body and straight to the apex of her thighs.

“Wait,” she managed to get out with just barely more than an exhalation of air. She knew that if she didn’t stop this soon then she wouldn’t have the strength to stop this from going any further. She wanted it to go further—a lot further, but she also wanted to take things slow.

He immediately halted and looked at her in a way that let her know she was in complete control of how far this went.

She could see the fiery desire in his now glowing, piercing blue eyes. “I want us to take this slow.”

His smirk was sinful. “We can go as slow as you’d like, Fire Gem.” His tongue made the slowest ascent from the curve of her neck all the way to her ear where it flicked her soft little lobe.

She shuddered.

“Is that slow enough for you?” he teased on a rough whisper.

She somehow managed to nod.

He repeated the motion. “I could lick you all day.” He smiled in satisfaction at the involuntary sound caught in the back of her throat. He slowly kissed his way back to her soft mouth and sucked on her bottom lip.

Using the last of his reserves, which were severely lacking when it came to this female, he allowed just enough space between them so she could slide down the length of his body until her feet were back on the ground. The friction and crackling desire pulsing between them had them sucking in heavy breaths.

Excerpt 3

“Does this count as taking it slow?” he drawled, putting his lips where his eyes had devoured her only seconds before. Their brief kiss ended with him sucking in her bottom lip.

Her laugh was all too breathy.

“What about this?” He bent his head and gave special attention to her neck with his mouth. “And this.” His hand slid up her body and cupped her breast. “And this,” he murmured, as sweet kisses traveled along her jaw to her mouth, only to end with a smoldering kiss that shot straight through her and landed in low, feminine places.

“Always so bad.” Keena chortled, while being met with his wicked grin. “Rhyker?”

“Yeah, Fire Gem?” he teased.

“Close your eyes,” she playfully requested. As soon as his eyes were closed, she was grinning. Because two could play the little game he started. She placed her hands on his chest and he allowed her to guide his body so he was pressed up against the wall. “No touching,” she ordered, silently pinning his hands to the wall.

His eyes remained closed but his grin was a mile wide at the command laced with sinful games.

Before he could speak, she pressed her lips to his and then dashed for the door as fast as she could. She barely made it one step out of the room before Rhyker playfully wrapped his arms around her from behind. As soon as he pounced on her, she was laughing with pure delight. Even if it was just a few seconds of chase, it was entertaining.

“I didn’t know you’re a fan of hide and seek,” he drawled with an idea suddenly coming to mind.

“Me neither.” She peeled away from Rhyker’s playful hold. It looked like he was about to protest but her stomach took that moment to make itself known by letting out a low growl.

“You’re hungry.” His voice held a hint of concern.

“And you’re astute,” she teased.

His lips twitched in amusement.

“I’m going to go take a shower… by myself,” she added that last part with a smile when she saw that mischievous look in his eye that said too much.

Excerpt 4

“I’m already sore from last night and this morning,” Keena began. “And my legs are like jello. I don’t know how productive this training session is going to be.”

Well, didn’t that have both him and his jaguar puffing up their chest in pride and purring in pure fucking delight.

“You’ll do fine. Besides, I have a little post-training plan in mind,” Rhyker drawled.

“Really? And what might that be?” Keena said with a flirty smile.

“It involves a hot bath and a rub down.”

“I think I can get behind that.”

He drew up close behind her and pressed his body close to hers. “Actually, I’ll be the one behind you,” he murmured in her ear and kissed the crook of her neck.

She let out a little moan and the sensation had her clenching somewhere low and deep. “If you don’t stop that then we’re going to be late.” Her voice was a little more breathy than intended.

“Do you want me to stop, Fire Gem?” he drawled, slowly licking the length of her neck.

“Yes.” Although, her voice was more of an encouragement to continue rather than an affirmation to stop.

“Very well.” He flicked his tongue over the sensitive spot on her neck.

She moaned in protest as he pulled away.

“Come on. Or else we’ll be late like you said.” His smirk was sinful and full of wicked promises.

Holy healer hell. What that male could do with his tongue. She shivered at the memories that decided to resurface at that thought.

Excerpt 5

“Okay, I did my best work but I’m tappin’ out.” She laughed a little as she held up the white flag, or in this case, the ice cream cone with less than a quarter of the Dark Ambrosia left on a partially eaten cone. At this point, it actually just looked like a mini ice cream cone of sorts.

“You did good, female,” he grunted in approval and meant it. The damn cones were huge. Of course, it was nothing that his bottomless pit of a stomach couldn’t handle. He took her sweet offering and with hooded eyes said, “I’ll happily lick up the last of your ambrosia and savor every taste.” With smoldering eye contact, his tongue licked the cone in the slowest ascent to only slightly suck at the top.

Her lips parted on a breathy exhale as the juncture between her thighs responded in the most feminine of ways. Suddenly, the memory of his mouth on hers slammed into her mind. The silky sensuality of his emotions rubbed up against her skin and it sent a shiver down her spine. She unknowingly licked her lips while staring deep into his piercing blue eyes. His deceptively lazy, feline smile was full of dark promises. A heartbeat later, he proceeded to walk down the path as if they did not just share the erotically electric moment.

Putty. Her legs were putty. And it was a miracle that she wasn’t a melted pool of the Dark Ambrosia on the park path right now. For a moment, all she could do was watch that wicked male saunter down the path in that easy-going way he had of moving his big body.

Walk. Right foot. Left foot. Right foot. Left foot, she mentally commanded and—hey, what do you know? Her body seemed to be on board with following that male. It took her a few steps to catch up to his long, lazy strides and when she did, she looked over at him. He was already done with the mini cone and her eyes fell to the corner of his mouth.

Cute, she thought with curved lips, seeing that a smudge of chocolate ice cream had escaped and took up residence at the cross streets of his lips and chin. She could tell by that smug, satisfied expression on his face that he wasn’t even aware of the offending sweetness. She looked at the chocolate smudge again. Was the Universe being cruel or giving her a gift, wrapped in chocolate?

Are you really going to do this? She bit her lip because she already knew the answer. And screw it. She already passed the line. So, why hold back now? Hell, the line was so far behind her that she didn’t even see it anymore.

Author Bio

M.C. Solaris’s life took an unexpected turn during the super blood moon eclipse on January 20, 2019. She woke up and began writing bios for her imaginary friends that she met that day. As soon as the pen hit the paper (or fingertips to the iPhone), she couldn’t stop. It was kind of like one of those fire hydrants, spewing copious amounts of water all over the place. The characters and their stories just flowed out of her. She is honored to be the scribe, getting to share her friends’ stories. You can read all about her gifted friends in the Orion’s Order series (Book 1 is Calypso’s Heart).

On a personal note, M.C. Solaris is actually the pseudonym of Marina Schroeder, women’s health enthusiast and lover of all things paranormal romance (PNR) and happily ever after (HEA). When she is not curled up on the sofa with her partner’s oversized hoodie, a PNR novel, peppermint tea, and one of her three cats, you will find her either at the ocean with her toes in the sand or in a forest hugging a tree. Well truthfully? There is one more place you might find her: trolling the aisles of Whole Foods for a satisfying combination of salty and sweet while hiding in her partner’s hoodie… like any proper PNR-writing introvert.

Author Interview Q&A

● Q: Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
○ A: Hands down, the characters in my head definitely hold the reins. I often just feel like a scribe, writing down the stories I see in my head that play out like scenes in a movie. That is actually how I began writing the Orion’s Order series, starting with Calypso’s Heart. I woke up one day and began writing bios for my gifted imaginary friends that I met that day. I absolutely love sharing their stories and the magical species world!
● Q: Where do your story ideas come from?
○ A: Honestly, I can’t logically explain it. The words and scenes are in my mind and play out like a movie. I know it sounds weird but the stories just… come to me. Some come in vivid dreams. Some come right when I wake up (in that magical state of mind between sleep and awake). Some come when I’m at the grocery store or in the middle of a workout or in meditation. Of course, I take inspiration from everyday life but the stories and characters seem to have a mind of their own and are definitely in the driver’s seat, calling the shots. There’s no plot planning or storyline strategizing for me. Instead, the stories are just in my mind, playing out like a movie and I just write them. I often joke that I just feel like a scribe writing down whatever the stories and characters show me. 😉
● Q: Have you written any other books that are not published?
○ A: Does Book 3 of Orion’s Order count? 😉 It is currently in editing and will be released as soon as editing and formatting is done! I also have several stories that are outlined or have the first few chapters written. They are marinating, not quite ready to be finished being written yet. And I am super excited for when the day comes to share these stories with you all!
● Q: Do you use Pen/paper or computer/phone to write your notes?
○ A: Shout out to the Notes app on the iPhone! Seriously, I have about a zillion notes in there that house alllll sorts of things to help keep this crazy mind of mine somewhat sane… somewhat being the key word there. 😉 Random story ideas, scenes, characters, words and conversations, etc. come to me at all hours of the day.  I immediately write them down in the Notes app. Then, at some later time, I transfer the notes to these word documents that I refer to as my author bibles. Oh, and I should also give an honorable mention to those ancient inventions called Sticky Notes and a pen for those times I am quickly jotting down a random as hell note about something one of the characters decided to show me when my phone or laptop are not nearby. 😉
● Q: Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
○ A: Three words: Tattooed. Bad Boy. Still not convinced? 😉 Well, Rhyker is a sexy as sin, black jaguar shifter with a side smirk that rivals Ian Somerhalder. He’s dangerous. Wears all black. Has black diamond stud earrings. Smokes indigo (a species plant). And his piercing, predatory, electric blue eyes are dangerously gorgeous. He’s got that tall, dark, and handsome thing down along with a good dose of muscled strength and wildness (in more ways than just his lethal feline within).
○ Still not convinced? Although, I struggle with understanding how that can possibly be. 😉 Rhyker has his eye on Keena, a sweet and caring mind healer, who has been determined to keep him in the friend zone. Because, if she were to be with Rhyker and it didn’t work out? Then it would ruin her. The only problem is that she already knows what his kiss tastes like. What his big, rough hands feel like on her body. What that sexy smirk of his does to her. In fact, her mind won’t seem to stop reminding her of that one time they shared that hot as hell kiss in a darkened corner of a club.
○ Oh, there’s also an ancient evil who The Order, Rhyker’s pack of lethally skilled hunters, is tracking so they can avenge their alpha’s mate and make good on their pack’s sole mission: to rid the evil in their world.
● Q: How long does it take you to write a book?
○ A: Good question! As a brand new author, I feel like the answer to this question will morph slightly as I continue to write, learn, grow, and get into a natural rhythm that works for me. Also, I think it might be helpful to call out that the books I’ve written thus far are quite longer than the standard (clocking in around 700 pages each book).
○ With that in mind, I wrote Calypso’s Heart in 5 months (but boy the editing process was a long learning process!). I wrote Rhyker’s Key in 6 months (editing process was a little less). And I wrote Orion’s Order book 3 in 7 months (and I’m hoping the editing will be even better this time around too). Soooo, 5, 6, and 7 months…. Here’s to hoping this numerical trend does continue in that direction lol! 😉
● Q: What are some of your writing/publishing goals for 2021?
○ A: I’ve actually been thinking about this a lot. As a brand new author where Calypso’s Heart was my first novel, to say I’ve learned a lot about writing and publishing books is an understatement (and yet, there’s still so much to learn). One thing I’ve learned is that writing the book is really the just  beginning and there’s a lot that happens behind the scenes before getting to the glorious step of pushing the publish button.
○ Another thing I’ve learned is that balance is important. And this is something I’m currently focusing on and will be one of my main goals for 2021. In fact, I may nominate the word “balance” to be my theme word for the year. So, here’s to finding some balance, a nice groove, and rhythm with writing and publishing books.
○ On a more specific level, I am going to play around with the goal of publishing 1 book per year in all formats (ebook, paperback, hardcover, and audiobook) while leaving room to allow inspiration to take shape in the form of writing and/or publishing extra bonuses like short stories, novellas, or even more full blown novels.
○ Even more specifically, next year, I plan on publishing Book 3 in the Orion’s Order series and set a goal to finish writing Book 4 in the series.
● Q: What do you like to do when you are not writing/being an author?
○ A: Reading romance novels (duh!), eating yummy foods (double duh!), walking on the beach (while listening to audiobooks, of course), and swimming in the ocean (unfortunately, haven’t figured out to listen to audiobooks while in the water but I’ve certainly tried and ruined many earbuds lol!). Oh, and playing with my fur-babies (3 cats who love to run around with a random spurt of energy at 4am lol 😉 ).
● Q: Do you see yourself in your characters?
○ A: In some ways and with certain characters, yes, I do see some relatable similarities. But there are also many qualities and characteristics that are wholeheartedly not me too. For example, in Calypso’s Heart, Caly and I both love music, morning drinks, and romance books (Oh, and we both love the hot alpha wolf, Blake! 😉 ). And in Rhyker’s Key, we learn about just how much yoga, dance, and mindfulness play an integral part of Keena’s life—which I most certainly relate to. On the other hand, both Caly and Keena live alone, which I’ve never done nor do I foresee myself ever doing! And without giving away their stories, I think both Caly and Keena make some decisions that I don’t think I would ever do. 😉
● Q: Are any of the characters based on real people you know?
○ A: I would say that overall there are some characters and events that are definitely inspired by things in the real world, including similar characteristics, tendencies, experiences, etc. However, one of the characters in particular, Starr, does share quite a bit in common with my sister and best friend, Marchesa. They aren’t the same person in my mind and they don’t share everything in common but certainly the strong similarities between them exist. Not only is Starr’s physical characteristics based on my sister but they are also both fiery and independent alpha females that are unapologetically blazing their own way through the world. My sister is most definitely aware of this and we often joke about it all the time—to the point where I often call her Starr-chesa whenever she says or does something that I feel is just “so Starr.”
● Q: Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?
○ A: A big, fat, teary-eyed THANK YOU!!! Seriously, thank you! And somehow those two powerful words full of love and gratitude don’t even feel like enough. Thank you for your support, encouragement, inspiration, interest, excitement, emojis, gifs, comments, reviews, smiles, laughs… all of it and more! Oh, and of course, thank you for all of the incredible conversations and messages all about the Orion’s Order crew of sexy as sin males and awesome females and of course the resident fur baby Felix, and the supernatural world of species So, in case I haven’t said this enough, THANK YOU! The crew and I love each of you very much! 🙂

Arc Review….. Broken Vow: A Dark Mafia Romance (Brutal Birthright Book 5) by Sophie Lark 👩🏻‍💻

Broken Vow: A Dark Mafia Romance (Brutal Birthright Book 5) by Sophie Lark

I’ll Protect Her… Whether She Likes It Or Not.

Riona Griffin is gorgeous, intelligent, and iron-willed. My perfect woman, except she hates my guts.

She thinks she doesn’t need anybody. But she needs me.

She’s being hunted by an assassin who never misses his mark.

I’m going to stay by her side, day and night, keeping her safe. Riona thinks that’s a fate worse than death but I know she’ll learn to love me.

If this hitman wants to kill her, he’ll have to go through me first.

“Broken Vow” is the wild and dangerous fifth installment in the “Brutal Birthright” series. It’s a standalone Bodyguard Mafia Romance, with a HEA and no cliffhanger. Contains steamy scenes.

Reading Order:
Brutal Birthright Series:
Book 1 Brutal Prince
Book 2 Stolen Heir
Book 3 Savage Lover
Book 4 Bloody Heart
Book 5 Broken Vow
Book 6 Heavy Crown

My Review……

Book 5 in this series, and there is no sign of slowing down…..
Riona is a Griffin through and through, works hard and reaps the rewards. And at the moment, she’s on target to become a partner in the law firm she works for. Granted her uncle works there, but she’s going to prove to herself and others she deserves it only merit alone, and not because her family part own the company!
She has a boyfriend whose a surgeon. So people would say she has it all. But Riona knows if she takes her foot off the pedal, then she could lose it all, and she’s worked too hard for that!
Raylan “Long Shot” Boone is a relatively new character, we met him in the previous book (bloody heart) long time friend of Dante.
Works as a mercenary, he’s good at his job.
I like Raylan, he’s a fun loving guy, doesn’t put people down unless he thinks they warrant it. Likes to keep people on their toes. He’s met Riona just the once, and she made a lasting impression him, but he’s here to look after her, so eyes on the horizon and not her gorgeous body…..
I always thought Riona was a cold and emotionless woman. When interacting with her family, I always got the impression she through the she was better than at least her brothers. But this story shows her in such a different light. She’s angry that women do t get the sane type of consideration as men! And she never wants to do what is expected of her! So no children or housework in her future! You have to admire her determination and drive, but she’s also missing out on so much of life….. with her it’s work, work, work!!
I love the playlist the author puts at the beginning of the book. It’s also on Spotify (which I have) so I listened to the tracks as the story unfolds. Some I agreed with and some of the songs really worked with a few of the scenes.
This book although not my favourite (Nessie and Mikolaj in “Stolen Heir”) was still a really good story. There is definitely a spark there, Raylan knows he shouldn’t look at her that way, but she pushes his buttons in all the wrong way! And Riona thinks he’s not her type, but she can’t take her eyes off of him!
Riona has a price on her head! Why? No one can figure it out (and it takes till almost the end of the book, for us to see who is behind wanting her dead!)
So Raylan takes her out of the city and back to his family ranch, after a fire in her apartment almost kills them both! Not only is she out of her depth (she’s a city girl through and through) but the sparks fly between her and Raylan.
Can she give up her rigid control and be the woman Raylan thinks is hiding under that power suit?
The action and suspense won’t let you down, the descriptive narrative is as usual awesome, the intimate moments are wow! But I just didn’t get the same vibe as I have with previous books.
We catch up with previous characters from other books (which I always like) so you can read this without reading the other previous books. But why deny yourself the pleasure of the Griffin and Gallos families.
And I get a feeling there might be a spin off series (his tattoo is significant to the team her works with) 😉 we can only hope.

With a storm raging outside, Raven and Jack end up sharing more than just the house. A scorching night turns into a red-hot weekend that reveals how much they have in common—including Raven’s ex-company. That revelation threatens everything they’ve found unless they fight to build something new…together.

Reading Order:
Heron Harbor Series
Book 1 Want Me Always
Book 2 Claim Me Now
Publication date 1/12/2020

My Review…..
Raven only wants to lick her wounds and hide from the world after being sacked!! She poured her heart and soul into the company and the item they had created. She tries to warn the company, but as the young members of the board wanted to get rich quick, it fell on deaf ears. So she gone home to rest and work out her options…..
Jack just needs to recharge and then he’s off again to do the job he loves (or does he?) his friend has let him borrow the family home in harbour for the weekend.
He never expected company…..
Second book in the Heron Harbour series and we are back to see if the harbour can work its magic once again…..
You don’t need to read the first book, they all stand happily on their own, but there is a familial link to the books.
The sparks these two have for each other soon burst into a fiery and passionate weekend.
But with Jack and Raven being so totally different, how can this last for longer than a weekend?
And when Raven finds out who Jack really
is, can she let go of resentment and anger?
I liked the characters, Raven being sassy and independent, she’s also got a good head on those shoulders, she’s not some innocent needing rescuing from the big bad man! She fights her own battles, and it made a refreshing change.
Jack plays his cards closer to his chest, and I found him a little standoffish at times, and not very flexible, he didn’t always get the point Raven was trying to make.
I love Heron Harbour, it was beautifully described so I could easily see me walking along the beach.
We get enough background on both the MC to understand a little of why they are the way they are.
I did want to bang their heads together a few times, especially towards the ending…..
So, if you want a naughty weekend with the promise of forever, then grab Heron Harbour and enjoy.
And I think I’m going to go grab the first book and possibly pre-order the third.

Arc Review…. Bloody Heart: A Second Chance Mafia Romance (Brutal Birthright Book 4) by Sophie Lark 👩🏻‍💻

Bloody Heart: A Second Chance Mafia Romance (Brutal Birthright Book 4) by Sophie Lark

She Cut My Heart Open…

I only meant to steal a car. I didn’t know I was stealing a girl, too. Until the most gorgeous face I’d ever seen popped up in the rear-view mirror.

I fell hard, fast, and forever…

But she tore out my heart — left me alone and bleeding.

How can I forget her, when I have to see that damned perfect face on billboards and magazines?

It’s torture.

Now usually I read the back cover to see what’s going on….

But without a description online when I received the arc, I had to read it blind….

What a rollercoaster of a ride!!!! I think it’s the best way to read from now on, so no more descriptions for me, until the review is done😉

Dante is a Gallo, we’ve met him in the previous books. A mafia boss’s son, nothing and no one is out of bounds as far as Dante is concerned. Living fast and loving his life.

Simone is a new face, the youngest daughter of a diplomat, brought up to be a young lady, groomed to do as she was told. But Simone wants more, she wants to design, to make pretty clothes, but when her father tells her no, Simone knows she will never have the life she wants.

They meet by accident, wrong time, wrong place (or maybe it was fate) Dante drives away with Simone in the back of the car he steals!

He’s fascinated with her, she’s nothing like he’s ever met before. Simone should be frightened, but she feels safe, and a short ride later, Dante escapes the car, but takes Simone’s heart with him!

So, the story starts off as young love, an accidental meeting turns into an adventure, meeting in secret, stolen kisses and moments of pure happiness. They avoid the talk of the future, they both know it won’t go on forever, but for the moment it’s all they want.

“I love you, Simone,” he says, his dark eyes boring into mine. “I know it’s only been a month—” “I love you, too,” I tell him quickly. “I don’t care how long it’s been. This thing between us—” “It’s not normal,” Dante says. “I love you like . . . like I’d destroy anything that tried to come between us. Like I’d burn the whole world down if I had to.” His eyes keep hold of mine. I can’t look away. I don’t want to look away. I only want to nod. “I know,” I say. “I want you. Nothing else,” he says. “You have me. All of me.” “Promise me, Simone.” “I’m yours. Till the day I die.” He smiles and presses his heavy lips on mine. “I want you longer than that,” he growls. I was never raised to fall in love like this. Without reason or choice. Only wild, intense obsession. I never meant for this to happen. But now that it has, there’s no escaping. I belong to Dante. And he belongs to me.

Then boom!!! My whole world crashes just like Dante’s! That was a turn I was not expecting!

And if you’ve read the previous books in this series, you’ll know love never runs smooth in this series, in fact it’s usually bloody and painful.

So the gentle start completely threw me, and what happens will tear your heart out and stomp on it until it’s a bloody mess!

We then move on……

It’s nine years later.

Dante is empty inside, he still looks after his family, he is now a real estate developer, still a little dangerous under that suit.

Simone is a famous model, her face is her trademark (what happened to her dream of designing clothes?) but inside she’s dead, the world is without colour, without joy, her only bit of joy is hidden deep in her heart.

When they meet up for the first time in nine years, it feels like time had fallen away for Dante, he can’t take his eyes off her, he knows he should harden his heart, but it’s Simone, it’s no good, his heart has always and will only belong to her.

Simone thinks he has nothing but hate for her, his face is stone, nothing is given away.

So can they move forward? Can they recapture their young love? Or has too much time passed for the couple?

“I’m so sorry,” Simone sobs.

“Don’t you ever be sorry,” I tell her, my voice thick with all the things I’ve wanted to say to her, all this time. “I love you, Simone. I have always loved you, and I will always love you. I’m never going to stop. Wherever you go, whatever you do, you have my heart in your hands.” “I love you so much,” she cries, her voice cracking. “I can’t believe you found me . . .”

“I’ll always keep you safe,” I promise her.

I didn’t think this series could get any better after I read the last book in the series (Savage Lover) but I was wrong, so wrong. I read this in one day, I couldn’t leave it alone.

I recommend this book, in fact I recommend the whole series. And now I need to go lie down. I’m drained!!!

You don’t need to read the previous books, each book is a standalone and a HEA ending.

But we do catch up with previous characters (that was nice) it’s written in the characters prospective. The story is written brilliantly like the previous stories, you become invested in the Gallo/Griffin siblings, and now I’m really hoping Sebastian is next.

Arc Review….. Outfoxed (The Fox Witch Book 1) by R.J. Blain 📱

Outfoxed (The Fox Witch Book 1) by R.J. Blain

Death is a way of life outside of the safety of Inner Tulsa, and Jade means to keep flipping Mother Nature off until old age claims her. With one eye always on the sky, the last thing she needs is a pack of bounty hunters out for her living head. With no idea of why anyone would want her, her wits might keep her free, assuming she can resist the charming lures of Sandro, one of the men out to claim her as his own.

Left with the choice of being the evening snack of a tornado or taking shelter with the bounty hunter, she does what she does best: she lives on the edge.

Striking a bargain with the handsome bounty hunter buys her another day of life, but it also dumps her into the heart of a sinister plot, one meant to enslave the residents of the storm-tossed city—and the others brave and foolish enough to call the Alley home.

Publication date 3/11/2020

My Review……
A new author and series for me.
I loved the chapter names, they did make me chuckle.
The chapters are pretty long, but are chopped into day or time slots, it’s a little like reading a diary.
Jade is a fox shifter, now most shifters can only partially shift, Jade is a full shifter, her genes are a top prize. But she’s not interested in becoming a wife, Jade is a free spirit and will stay that way, unless the bounty hunters get hold of her!
I liked Jade, she was independent, she was resourceful and she had an attitude I just loved, she had me chuckling at odd moments.
Vagrants are poor people who live in the alley.
Asylum is where the rich and powerful live. It’s very much a dystopian story. It’s very descriptive, really well written. When she’s not being chased by her “ethical” bounty hunter, she’s thinking about him. It’s driving her crazy!
Sandro is the current bounty hunter on her tail, he’s caught up with her, and now they are hiding out from a fierce storm. Really wasn’t too enamoured with him at first, all he saw was cash when he saw Jade, then insulted her by saying she could make money as a stripper!!
But promising her a five minute head start after the storm abated.
When he finally catches up with her, he persuades her to live with him for a while! That part I was confused with, if he’s a bounty hunter, then why not take her straight to where you’ll get paid? Unless he has an ulterior motive?
Jade also uncovers why she’s so valuable, and if she’s sold as a courtesan then she could be made to have children to more than just her husband! That’s why she has so many bounty hunters after her! She’s worth a small fortune. She needs to hide, and stay hidden under they get bored and move on.
But she’s not that lucky, she’s being targeted, and Sandro has to pull strings and throw money at the problem.
But in the end, Jade is entered into the auction (I really did think differently) and what will be her fate? A brood mare, a plaything, or a beloved wife?
I have to admit it’s slow, it’s a little long winded, but there was something that kept me reading. I wanted to find out if she escapes Sandro, I wanted to know if they ever got out from under the rule of the Asylum……
And in the end, I have to admit, it was a pretty good book.
Sandro’s family is absolutely hilarious, I loved his mother, I had a permanent smile on my face as I read the whole families interaction with one another and Jade.

Arc Review…. Something to hold onto (Silver Duet series)  Book 2 by M.K. Oien 📱

Something to hold onto (Silver Duet series)  Book 2 by M.K. Oien

She was supposed to be the key. The one person who could assist me in finally getting what I wanted.
But all the good things I’d coveted in my life including her, wouldn’t lead me down the pretty path I originally planned.
The moment I met Claire Evans I knew she’d be the death of me.

He was arrogant, unapologetic and cruel. The golden boy of Seattle, the ever perfect and always winning Mickey F***ing Silver.
I hated him.
I followed him into the darkness with the promise of reward. When he let go of my hand I was left abandoned and shattered. I knew he’d be the death of me.

This is a tale of love and hate, revenge and forgiveness, life and death.
A story that starts with good intentions and obliterates every expectation.

*This book is intended for mature readers 18+ due to sensitive subject matter including violence, adult language, and a whole lot of steam.

Reading Order :
Silver Duet Series
Book 1 Something to believe in
Book 2 Something to hold onto

Publication date 3/11/2020

My Review…..

Something to believe in starts that story, Mickey’s brother and best friend are in that one, so the second book is all about Mickey Silver.
I haven’t read the first book, I know it says the book stands alone, but when previous characters are woven into the first book, it really makes me want to read that one first! And I have a feeling there are things in that book pertaining to this one!
Claire hates Mickey with a passion the reason, her ex boyfriend worked for him selling drugs! The way Cory talked about the awesome Mickey Silver, you thought the sun rose and set on his boss! And the arrogance when Claire met him was enough for her to never want to see him ever again!
Mickey Silver has worked hard to get to where he is now, he’s also cheated, stolen, lied and crossed a few other lines.
I was prepared to hate him, a drug dealer is not usually high on my list of books to read. A taker, someone who would probably blow your brains out if he thought you had crossed him!
But something most people don’t know about Mickey, he wants out of this business. And he’s making preparations to leave this business to someone else, he’ll have enough money to live comfortably and he’s sick of watching his back.
There’s a saying in life that good things come to those who wait.
That doesn’t work for me since I’m one of the most impatient people on the planet. Don’t mistake that for not having good things. As a matter of fact I’ve got more than my fair share of desirable assets and then some.
Patience may be a virtue, but I’ve never been known for my morality.
Do you know why wonderful things happen for me? It isn’t luck or fate or some random philosophical bullshit.
I make it happen. I work my ass off for what I want and that’s how it’s always been.
Being the prodigal son of Jack Silver, lead drug kingpin for the Pacific Northwest since 1985, I had no other choice. He was my father, my teacher, my boss. If I didn’t strive to reach his level of success, I’d be useless. That’s why I take what I want or die trying and I’m not dead yet so I’d say I’m a success.
Call me a workaholic, a selfish asshole, or a thief; it doesn’t matter, I’ll take it. Just like I take everything else I want. I don’t give a shit what anyone thinks of me……
What made me continue with the book was his love for his best friend and his brother. It made him seem human, to worry about other people other than himself, so with that in mind I continued.
“Does your girl know what it might be?” Dom asked.
“She’s not my girl.” I growled.
He snorted. “Whatever you say man. I saw that mark on her neck. You seriously telling me you didn’t tap that when you’ve had her locked away this entire time?”
“Watch it.” I warned in a threatening voice. “Why does everyone assume that?”
Dom chuckled. “Gee man, I don’t know. Maybe because you’ve had a thing for her since the first time you saw her. Mack called it last year. We knew you of all people would end up falling for someone you could never have.”
My eyes narrowed. “This is off topic. Back to the task at hand,” I said…..
The chemistry between Claire and Mickey sizzles almost from the first. The hate that Claire says she feels for Mickey probably feels real to her, but you have to wonder if she was hiding her feelings for him from the start.
Mickey thinks “stripper” and has preconceived notion of his “rat’s” girlfriend, she’s got to be easy and willing to give up her boyfriend. He’s blown out of the water in both cases……
So Mickey’s plan, kidnap Claire and get her boyfriend come rescue her!
Claire can only see one problem with that, they split up! Mickey is going to have to come up with some other plan! But he’s convinced that Corey will come and rescue her, then he will convince Corey to back to him, and then he will deal with the real culprit (A man that was prominent in the previous book) he wants Delgado in prison or dead for the hassle he caused his brother and his best friend.
The kidnapping is actually a contract between Mickey and Claire, she’s to be paid for her time, but she needs to be close to Mickey for it to work!!
This book is a rollercoaster of emotion, guilt, anger, hate, double dealings and back stabbing.
But there is also family loyalty, love, tender moments and a connection that sizzles across the pages.
What starts out as blackmail, turns into two people slowly turning to one another as the world they know goes crazy!!
“I hate that I’m the reason for what happened to you and it kills me that I couldn’t get to you sooner.”

“I don’t blame you.”

“I know because you’re a beautiful soul and that makes me feel even more like a bastard. I swear to you I’ve never felt the way I do about you with anyone before. It probably sounds cheesy but I love you more than anything in this world and when I think about my future, you’re in it. I’ve felt that way since the day I took you to the waterfall.”

Mickey can’t get enough of Claire, there is nothing he won’t do for her, she is it for him, and for Claire, the sun rises and sets with him. Neither thought they’d find this kind of love, both thought it would be like fireworks (short but intense)

So is my review a little off? Maybe, I wanted to know Mickey before this book, so I kept looking for something else.

So I stopped, read something else and came back up it, and I’m glad I did.

It’s got a few triggers, it’s got a few heart wrenching moments, and it’s got pages where it just took my breath away.

I’m still not a fan of drug dealers, I’m still not a fan of excess violence, but I am a fan of this author.

I’d recommend this book for several reasons. And I know I’m going back to read the first story (if only to read about Mickey)

Arc Review…..Tempting the Footman (House of Devon Book 5) by Lauren Smith 📱

Tempting the Footman (House of Devon Book 5) by Lauren Smith

She’s an heiress who needs a husband fast…he’s the brooding, handsome footmen who comes to her rescue…

Lady Venetia Dunham has plenty of money and freedom, until her father dies, leaving her and her feisty grandmother at the hands of her less than noble cousin when he becomes the new earl. Her cousin makes his wishes clear. She will marry a man of his choosing, a man who will split her fortune with her cousin.

Determined to avoid that fate, Venetia and her grandmother flee to a country house party hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Devon where Venetia stumbles into the arms of Adrian Montague, a handsome footman with a tragic past.

When Venetia sprains her ankle, she and Adrian are closeted together for a week. The attraction between them is undeniable and forbidden. Their passion could wreck Adrian’s life if they were discovered together. When love blooms between them, it comes at a great cost, and Venetia must choose to follow society’s laws or her own heart.

Publication date 28/9/2020
My Review….
Footman Adrian Montague is going about his daily chores, if he’d known how the day would end, he might have been better prepared.
Socialite Venetia Dunham is not going to marry some horrid man her cousin has acquired for her! It was bad enough she lost her family home in the country, she’ll be damned if she’ll lose her inheritance to marriage!
She needs to escape or marry a man of her choosing…..
A forbidden love, ladies don’t usually meet and marry the servants, but nothing about this arrangement is orthodox.
Adrian is technically the son of a lord (but if your father ruins the reputation of your mother and refuses to marry her, then your illegitimate) but as his father refuses to acknowledge Adrian, he has had to make his own way in the world.
Venetia is quite the spitfire, she knows what she wants and with the help of her beloved Gran, she sets out to do it.
This short story is part of a series (House of Devon) written by other authors. But you definitely don’t have to read them all.
I think it was almost love at first sight for Adrian, and when asked to be Venetia’s companion for the week, he jumps at the chance (yes a little unconventional, but it’s a writers prerogative)
They form a friendship that turns into love. She wants to know all the secrets concerning a man, she wishes to know their touch and kisses, and she wants Adrian to help her!
But it’s a secret, because if found out Adrian would be given the sack from his job and Venetia would be a social outcast!! But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to hide their feeling for one another.
And what of her cousin? Has he forgotten that she is to marry his friend? Or will he leave her to live the quiet life in the country?
So can Adrian and Venetia find happiness, or will it be just a brief fling?
If your looking for a short historical read, then you’ll not go wrong in picking this one up.

Publication date 14/9/2020
My Review…..
A reverse harem is a group of someone’s boyfriends and/or husbands in a polygamous household. A situation in which a woman is the love of three or more men.
Candy/Candace is working in a beer tent for the Oktoberfest, it’s not where Candace thought she’d be, Stacey and Candace were suppose to be house sitting, and with the money they were bound for adventures in the sun. But her friend Stacey fell in love and left to go travelling with her new love (a rude if you ask me!) leave Candace on her own!
The only highlight in her life is when three Vikings come to her rescue from being verbally attacked, the ensuing fight gives everyone a chance to blow off steam, and they get her phone number.
Soren, Tristan and Lucas run a bed and breakfast, it’s looking a little rundown, so they need a woman’s touch. They have the ideal woman in mind, they just need to convince her to give up her job and come work for them.
As they become friends, Candy is fighting her guilt, she likes them all, she can’t date one without hurting the other two! Maybe dating all three together should feel wrong, but when the men tell her what they want, it gives her things to think about.
A few fun filled times, a few steamy moments. The laughter made the book for me. And the fact they aren’t brothers (that always makes me feel a little icky!) is a plus.
And when her family start asking when will she be coming home, it puts the men motion, if they don’t want her to go, then they need to show her how much she means to them.
It’s a fun read, and as it’s October, it’s a Halloween must read.
The chemistry between the four is not as hot as I’ve read from other RH.
The bonus epilogue ties up the book nicely.

Savage Lover: A Dark Mafia Romance (Brutal Birthright Book 3) by Sophie Lark

There’s A Reason I Never Go To Parties…

I saw him in a cloud of smoke, like sin made flesh. Even bruised and battered, I’d never seen anything more beautiful…

Unless I hate myself, I should stay far away from Nero.

He’s a heartbreaker.

A mess-maker.

A walking disaster.

Here’s the problem: I’m in deep trouble with a dirty cop. The only person who can save me is Nero. We’re not friends. If he saw me drowning, he’d throw me an anchor.

But he’s the only chance I’ve got.

He’s no hero, he’s a Savage Lover.

“Savage Lover” is the wild and reckless third act of the “Brutal Birthright” series. It’s a stand-alone bully Mafia Romance, complete with HEA and no cliffhangers. It contains blazing hot bedroom scenes for mature readers only!!!

Brutal Birthright Series

Book 1 Brutal Prince

Book 2 Stolen Heir

Book 3 Savage Lover

Publication date 16/9/2020 *

My review……

Nero is the reckless Gallo family member. He’s a ladies man, and he knows it, the Gallo looks, the bad boy image, Nero has cultivated that look, and it certainly pays off with the girls.

Camille is a mechanic, she works with her father. Not exactly the life she wanted, but she likes cars, it’s the people she’s not impressed with.

But picking her brother up from a party sends Camille’s life into a downward spiral. Covering up her brother’s stupidity seemed like the only course of action. She couldn’t let him go to prison, he’d never get a chance at living.

But the police officer that pulls her over had no intention of sending her to prison. Oh no, he’s got plans for her……

These two probably never would have met if not for her brother throwing up and a cop and finding her brothers secret!

If it wasn’t for the bent cop terrorising and blackmailing Camille, she won’t have turned to the one man she shouldn’t have.

Nero and Camille shouldn’t have fallen in love, from two different worlds. She’s hard working and he’s a gangster.

I loved this story, the interaction between the families

The intensity between the main characters in this book blew me away.

I thought the chemistry between (Brutal Prince) and (Stolen Heir) was intense, this was so much more.

The passion, the slow and ever growing love that blossomed between Nero and Camille.

This book had me putting down my regular favourites and diving straight in. Ms Lark is becoming a go to author.

I do have one complaint, it lacked a little something.

It didn’t have the angst of Stolen Heir, and it didn’t have the enemies to loves vibe either! Yes Camille hated Nero, but it wasn’t the same type of fear and hate that Nessa had for her Russian beast!

But what it did have was realisation of two people that were meant to be together. It had two people who were stronger together, that they complemented one another.

I didn’t really like Nero at first, in fact I wasn’t too keen on Camille either! But as the story progresses we find out more on the characters, why they behave the way they do.

You don’t need to read the other two books, but why deprive yourself.

Another highly recommended book by this author.

Now the most beautiful man in the world is looking at me with love and desire. And I realize it’s impossible that he could feel those things for me if I were truly undeserving. If Nero and I are a perfect match—and I feel certain that we are—then I’m his equal. His analog. It’s a strange realization to have, after all this time, but I finally believe it. I’m beautiful. I’m intelligent. I’m worthy of love. “What is it?” Nero asks me. I take a deep breath, my forehead pressed against his. I’m breathing in the scent of his skin, and his lips, just an inch away from mine. Taking in his breath—then giving it back to him again. “I’m really, completely happy,” I tell him. “So am I,” he says. “It’s weird, isn’t it?” I laugh. “Do you think that’s how other people feel all the time?”

“No,” he says, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me close. “I don’t think anyone has felt exactly like this.” He kisses me again, with those full lips that spark a thousand sensations everywhere they land. Excerpt from Savage Lover

Brutal Birthright Series:
An Enemies To Lovers Mafia Romance
Book 1 Brutal Prince
Book 2 Stolen Heir
Book 3 Savage Lover

My Review……

Book 2 in the Brutal Birthright Series, Miko wanting revenge for the death of the man he called father. And the casualty is Nessa the gentlest member of the Griffin clan.
Miko was briefly in last book. And it will come back to bite the Gallo/Griffin clan in the a$$!!
We have to go back ten years to the start of his story. His family was once happy and stable, after a work accident, father was badly injured and unable to work they mother left the family home soon after. So it was him and his twin Anna against the world. Until his world comes crashing down…..
Nessa Griffin is sister to Callum (MC Brutal Prince)she’s lovely, a gentle soul and adored and protected by her family and friends. She’s loves to dance, but never quite made the grade to dance professionally.
Getting a chance to choreograph a routine for her local ballet is a dream come true, but when she’s left disappointed, Nessa gets talked into going to a bar for a few drinks.
Miko wants to take the Gallo/Griffin families down, they killed his adopted father and now he wants to take them down!! He gave Miko a job and purpose after his sister killed herself.
He runs his part of the Polish Mafia world, and not taking revenge will have him facing opposition and a possible takeover! Miko has worked too hard for that to happen.
I will admit I didn’t expect the kidnapping, I thought he’d charm her then take her for a drive whilst making the family panic. This was nothing like that, drugging her then keeping her a prisoner (considering what happened to his sister I was a little shocked) then toying with her family as they frantically search Chicago for her.
Another really good read from the author. After reading her first book in this series I was eager to read more of this world. And boy did I ever.
The emotions in this book are amazing, the backstory gives us why Miko is the way he is, but it also shows us that beauty can tame the beast. But I’ll have to admit I wanted to shoot Miko for most of the book!
But if they make it, how can Miko forgive the family that killed his father? Surely it’s eye for an eye?
And if she falls for the beast, how will her family take it?

I could never love a brutal prince.

“Brutal Prince” is the explosive first act in the epic “Brutal Birthright” series. It’s a stand-alone Dark Mafia Romance, complete with HEA and no cliffhangers. It contains blazing hot bedroom scenes for mature readers only!!!

Brutal Birthright Series:
An Enemies To Lovers Mafia Romance
Book 1 Brutal Prince
Book 2 Stolen Heir
Book 3 Savage Lover *

My Review……
This story is told by both the main characters.
Callum is being groomed to take his place at the head of the Griffin empire. Nothing and no one stands in the way of this family. His sisters are used as pawns, and he’s ok with that! It’s for the good of the family right?!
There is definitely tension between the two families (it does go back at least a generation or two, as per usual it’s all about money and power)
Aida is the youngest in the Gallo family, having no mother to bring the family up, Aida has always been treated as a boy, that’s suited her fine. She’s learned to fight and look after herself. She’s headstrong and at times careless, but she loves her brothers and father very much.
The enemies to lovers trope seems to be the in thing at the moment with authors, so have it nailed, and some fall short….
Sophie’s Brutal Birthright series falls in the nailed it category.
The story is clean and decisive, the whole range of emotions are on display here.
The animosity between Callum and Aida is palpable. After beating her brother up and Aida accidentally stealing a watch (and throwing it in the lake) there is definitely no love lost between them.
Callum wants to break her family, he will take their business and their home.
The only course of action ….. marriage!!!
At the start of the book you assume it’s set earlier in the century, reading further it’s set now! It’s hard to think of families having feuds with one another.
But reading you could see (and it does) it happening.
The book is well worth the rollercoaster of emotions it takes you on. It starts at the engagement party, through the wedding and into the marriage! Each trying to get the better of one another! I was exhausted just reading it😉
So will Callum and Aida ever get past the enemy stage?
And how will they take the news that a new force is in town, and they want what the Gallo/Griffin family have?

My Review …..

That was somewhat pretty good. Once you get past the sex, the corny lines. The story was original and captivating.

You do need your brain in gear as I did have to read a few things twice!!

Ares God of War!! Harbinger of doom and destruction, he’s after the Malavite Stone, why you ask? Well, I’ll tell you…..

Aurora alpha in training (which is mentioned a lot!) but she’s not actually in training! Her mother the first female alpha of The DarkMoon pack is suppose to be training her daughter, but she’s spending more time fretting about the coming war with Ares and his pack of bloodthirsty wolves and training Aurora’s soon to be Beta!!

The reason being, Aurora can’t shift! She was almost killed by rogues, she has the ability (she has the wolf inside) but her spine was shattered, so making shifting impossible (well it takes too long) and uncomfortable beyond belief…..

So as far as Aurora is concerned she’s broken, and believes her mother and pack thinks so too. So trying to believe Ares when he tells her she will be Luna of his pack is going to take time.

If I say too much it’s going to give things away. But I will say it’s worth a little confusion.

The storyline is good, the fight scenes are bloody, and the romance is hot and steamy.

Ares is hard to read, he’s both hard and soft, caring and cruel. And when Aurora becomes his unwilling mate, she sees all those sides to him and more. So who is Ares, the soft and caring brother and mate, or the ruthless leader who crushes anyone and everything in his path?

Ares is a complex character, he hides facets of himself from most people, but he can’t help but show his softer side to Aurora, yes she’s his mate, but she’s distracting him from his mission! He wants to be her Alpha, but he also wants her to want all of him….

Oh, I forgot to tell you why Ares is after the Stone didn’t I? It’s because….. no, can’t tell you, it’s better if you read it for yourself. 😉

First book in the series, and I’m hoping it’s going to be a series, there is a lot of potential, and I’m really hoping Marcel from Ares pack gets a book.

A few minor characters give us a little light relief from all the angst that’s in this book, one being Raffles (named for the crisps she loves so much) a cat with attitude had me smiling whenever I read about the feline.

The thing I was a little uncomfortable with was the way her mother treated her, that was sad, her spineless father never stood up for her, her beta who basically only wanted her for her position in the pack, I felt pity for her, but that never stopped her doing her own thing (and I liked that a lot her) she was crushed time and time again, but she dusted herself off and got on with it.

The rogue’s add the element of mystery, why target Aurora? Do they know something Ares doesn’t? The whereabouts of the Malavite Stone?

The interaction between the MC’s had me pinging from frustration to amusement, screaming at my kindle and rolling my eyes at the way they danced around one another!

Neither would tell the other where the stone was or why the stone was so important!

But when Aurora finds out why Ares wants the stone, can she help him? Will she want to help him?

And when Ares finds out Aurora knows where the stone is, will he demand it? Or can he listen to reason?

Publication date 13/10/2020

My Review……

I hadn’t heard of the authors that are compared to this book (but I did look on google and liked what I’d read) YA (Young Adult) books aren’t usually my thing, I’ve read a few, and they’ve been ok.
But I did like the back cover…..
Twelve Tribes of Alandria had been split into four groups. The Society rules over everyone.
Woodloch to the West, their magic is used for might (war)
Viland to the East, their magic is for the good of the people (medicine)
Moran to the South their magic is basically useless!!!
And Tosin the magic they wield is for everyday tasks (efficiency)
Kerrigan hopes that when she’s selected her life will finally be better. But that doesn’t happen! She can’t understand why, but Kerrigan isn’t going to let non selection stop her from getting what she wants.
Kerrigan has always had to fight for what she’s wanted. Being dumped as a baby was bad enough, but she’s half human, half Fae! The half breeds have been persecuted for as long as anyone can remember.
Fighting for money is the only way she can survive. But unlike most half breeds, Kerrigan can use all four elements of magic, she just doesn’t tell anyone.
Kerrigan also has visions, not many, but enough to worry her!
And she has an affinity with the dragons, she loves them and her, but she won’t miss cleaning them out!
I liked her band of friends, they all seemed to lend something to the the book. And I’m hoping we get to see more of them through the series.
Prince Fordham Ollivier, is not a nice person, he looks down on Kerrigan, and with the slur of her birth constantly on his tongue. I really don’t like him!
But with the hate/hate relationship between Kerrigan and Fordham, you know it’s going to change, and it does eventually….
That was a good read. The start of a series is always tricky, giving enough background without getting too bogged down, and leaving enough for future books.
There are a lot of characters (loved the pronunciation of the characters in the front of the book) I did feel just a little overwhelmed remembering who was who and what they did (notes were needed) 😉
There are Red Masks (hate group who want half breeds and humans dead!)
Kerrigan is a fighter, I liked her spirit. Fordham is totally different from what I thought he’d be….
So without giving too much away, Kerrigan is facing choices at almost every turn. There are factions working to keep Kerrigan away from dragons. Her magic is unstable, but she’s working on that. Throw in dragons, danger, a few twists and the beginning of a love story and you have a pretty good read.
It also ends on a little cliffhanger, so I’m definitely interested in the next book.

Arc Review….. Wolf Hunter Inquisition: The Freeing of Chiropteran by Miller Thomas 📱

Wolf Hunter Inquisition: The Freeing of Chiropteran by Miller Thomas

Waking to a macabre world filled with thirst, Danny Roberts finds himself a thrall to a vampire calling herself Mistress, compelled to bend to her every whim. A member of an organization called the Shepherds, Mistress keeps humanity safe from wolves, those who would harm the innocent and threaten the ancient peace between humans and Vampires. But all is not what it seems. Change is coming, dark forces stir in the corners of reality, and time is growing short. Will Danny be able to overcome his own weakness and embrace his destiny or succumb to the power lurking in the shadows?

Only Time will tell…
Publication date 4/10/2020
My Review….
That was a really good book,  just a little confusing in places. Lots of characters, and I’m not sure if they were all needed! In fact with everything that’s going on, it could have been made into a two books.

Danny is now a vampire’s slave (known as a thrall) but not just any thrall, Danny seems to have retained his own mind, and that’s never been heard of before. So his “mistress” can keep him and he can help her chase down “Wolves”  He doesn’t remember how he was “turned”, but he can’t be around people, and certainly not his friend and partner Sophia.    Sophia is his detective partner, she’s always worried about him, but now he’s a vampire he can’t associate with her, he needs to disappear…..
Mistress is a head Shepherd, it’s a vampire council that monitor the humans, (Sheep) and when the Wolves (killer humans) start killing off the humans (a vampire can’t have his food source killed off, they have to eat) then the vampires call for the Wolf Hunters.
Mistress is going to train Danny to be her apprentice.

There is a lot of conflicting emotions coming from Mistress, she thinks the vampires are superior. And reading all her abilities I have to agree, but spending time with Danny, you see her softening towards him. I think she admires him, she also treats him like a child and talks to him like a mother would her son.
After dispatching the latest serial killer, Mistress and Danny are then dispatched to L.A. chasing down this killer is proving a little more tricker.

Danny also has learn to harness his “Will”, (the power to change and control his body, his appearance and to influence others) that’s only one of his gifts.  He also learns he can tolerate sunshine, the more he drinks, the more he can tolerate. But there is also a side to the blood taken, you can’t kill a “sheep” or the blood can have bad repercussions!

This book is more gothic horror than romance. And a really good murder/mystery thrown in. There is something else going on in the background, can Danny and Mistress figure it out? I must admit it, I got drawn in and that’s where I stayed till I finished.  The suspense is there, the action is thrown at you, and if I could I would have hid behind my fingers at some of the scenes.

This would make an excellent film. And one I’d go and watch.  The interaction between Mistress and Danny felt a little stilted at first, then it flowed beautifully. Her sarcastic barbs thrown at Danny had to make me both chuckle and cringe for him.  Watching him grow into his new role was fascinating. In fact at one point I thought he would outgrow his mistress.

Loved the interaction with the librarian Libby, she was quick, inquisitive and a font of knowledge.

I read a lot of vampire literature, from Dracula to sparkly, Master to victim, hero and villain. But this was unlike anything I’ve read before. A new concept to an old genre.
I’d happily recommend this book to anyone that fancies a book with “bite”

Arc Review… The Dragon’s Ambivalent Sacrifice: a Dragon Shifter Romance (The Last Dragons Book 2) by Ines Johnson 👩🏻‍💻

The Dragon’s Ambivalent Sacrifice: a Dragon Shifter Romance (The Last Dragons Book 2) by Ines Johnson

After years of abuse, she believed she was worth nothing. But when she is sacrificed to a dragon she becomes his treasure…

Born of violence, Beryl is the biggest and brawniest of his dragon shifter brothers. His beast loves a good fight and has been nicknamed The Hulk after his heroes; Incredible and Hogan. When his last fight gets out of control and his dragon nearly kills another shifter, he knows the only thing that will wrangle the beast is a female sacrifice. However, when the human he’s destined to mate with arrives, she’s small and meek and cringes from his touch.

With a prostitute as a mother and a pimp as a boyfriend, Poppy is all too familiar with the violent tendencies of the opposite sex. The unsightly spots on her skin make her unsuitable for work on the streets. Her lack of skills in the kitchen disqualify her as a domestic goddess. So when she is sacrificed to a fire breathing dragon, she’s certain it’s as a late night snack. Though the hulking man’s gentle touch awakens a desire she’s never felt before, his brutish ways aggravate the wounds she keeps hidden.

Beryl realizes he can’t continue to brawl and earn his timid mate’s trust. He’s willing to be patient, but with each day she isn’t claimed, his beast gets worse and other shifters become more of a threat. To accept Beryl’s claim, Poppy will need to overcome her past and learn to love herself, something she’s not sure she could ever do -even for the gentle giant she’s falling for.

The Last Dragons Series

Book 1 The Dragon’s Reluctant Sacrifice

Book 2 The Dragon’s Ambivalent Sacrifice

Book 3 The Dragon’s Willing Sacrifice

Publication date 2019 *

My Review….
Beryl is the eldest brother to a set of triplets, the biggest, the baddest the best (well in Beryl’s opinion anyway)
He’s a fighter, a wrestler, bodybuilder, the quickest at mining for precious stones, and an awesome games player (again his opinion) he’s a total big head and bully in my eyes. He’s picks on his younger brother and will fight anyone over anything!
But reading further into the book, we see a side many don’t, the dragon and man want a treasure to protect and love (what’s the use of these muscles if nothing to protect) and to be loved in return.
Poppy isn’t loved, or protected. After her mother died, there is only Bruce! A bully, a letch and a total pig! If he’s not beating her, then it’s just using her body for his own pleasure!
Her appearance can’t even get her working on her back (she has marks all over her, a little like leprosy!)  Maybe the next beating will kill her! Here’s hoping!
The Veil is technically a wall or shield protecting The Garden of Eden! God is actually a goddess and likes to tinker with her creations! That’s how this dimension came about. To protect the species that are behind it.
Halflings (part dragon part human) women who will die before they are twenty are the key to having a mate, their ailments are what makes them different (so in fact Poppy doesn’t have leprosy but in fact scales!)
I’ll have to admit, I didn’t want Beryl to get a mate, well maybe, but not yet. I didn’t think he deserved one, he’s a bully, he thinks because he has muscles he’s entitled to everything. But having Poppy as his mate might actually be a good thing, he will have to temper his rage, use his brain instead of his brawn, and think of someone else for a change.
Poppy was definitely a victim of abuse, you feel so sorry for her.
But she’s not completely down for the count, she might not have defended herself when her boyfriend hit her, but when she finds evidence he’s abused a child, all bets are off!
Being rescued by the Valkyrie and brought through the veil was the best thing for Poppy. Having someone fight in her corner and care about her makes her nervous, she knows it could all come crashing down around her. So Beryl is going to have to take it slow with his treasure. It doesn’t help that he has to fight his younger brother for her, or lions try to take her from him!
Watching beauty tame her beast was really good.
Need to read more brothers getting their “treasures”

Arc Review… Burning Ash (Forgotten Brotherhood Book 3) by N.J. Walters📱

Burning Ash (Forgotten Brotherhood Book 3) by N.J. Walters

No one is more surprised than Asher, one of the oldest vampires on Earth, that he’s attracted to vamp hunter Jo Radcliffe. She’s smart, a talented slayer, and she’s gorgeous. Something about her pulls at him, like no one ever has before. For a man, whose name strikes fear in everyone—this is something new and intriguing. And quite possibly deadly, if she discovers his secret.

Jo has two things in common with the handsome Asher—they are both slayers and someone is messing with them in a very-much-trying-to-kill-them way. She’s not so happy about joining forces with a dude she doesn’t know. But he’s sexy as hell and really good at his job as one of the Forgotten Brotherhood, whose business it is to execute misbehaving paranormals.

She knows she’s bait in a larger plot to harm Asher and the Brotherhood. And there is nothing he won’t do, no line he won’t cross, to keep her safe—which may be the weakness that destroys them both.

Each book in the Fury Unleashed series is STANDALONE:
* Fury Unleashed
* Arctic Bite
* Burning Ash

Publication date… 21/9/2020 *

Asher feared no one—man, creature, or god. He’d long passed his normal lifespan. Those he’d loved had been lost to the sands of time. Now the only ones he called friends were the Forgotten Brotherhood.

The Brotherhood had been created by the fallen angel Maccus after the two of them had been hired for the same job.

What could have led to mass bloodshed had instead  spawned the Forgotten.

They were the most dangerous men in existence, loners with loyalty to no one. They had no pack, no coven or  community. Or at least none that would claim them.

They killed only those who deserved to die, paranormal  creatures that murdered without discrimination.

Try to hire one of them to slay someone innocent or who didn’t deserve to die? Well, that never ended well for the one trying to secure the contract.

They mostly kept to themselves, but they all lived by a code.

Kill only those that deserved it and let their gods sort them out.

Kill them before they killed you.

Never, ever betray a fellow assassin.

Simple and easy with little room for discussion. Because once a contract was accepted, it was carried out. There was no other option. In their line of work, there could be no mistakes.

My Review…..

Asher has seen and done many things In his long life.Being brought into this life by a goddess, she set him the task of keeping humans safe.
Maccus and Asher formed the brotherhood, and through the years others members have joined. And as part of the brotherhood, they’ve had to put down some of their friends (that’s why it’s never good to form a close bond) they don’t meet up very often, and it’s usually only to swap information.
Jo is a vampire slayer, after losing her beloved parents to a vicious killer.
She’s good at her job, she trains and doesn’t let anything get in her way.
Asher receives an email that interests him, it warns him of a vampire that’s offering immortality, but in fact is killing his hosts! That’s a big no no, so here he is watching a vampire in Kentucky. But that’s not what got his interest, the fact he couldn’t trace it has him joining in this hunt.
Now usually the brotherhood don’t get involved, the rogue vampires are dealt with by The Vampire Council. The brotherhood’s job is the one no one wants to do.
Asher and Jo first meet whilst dispatching the same vampire.
Both are wary of each other, but Asher guesses who Jo is first, his reveal doesn’t go down well at all with Jo. He’s a Vampire!!! She knows she should take him out, the only good vampire is a dead vampire. But he can walk in the sun, he eats food, all the things vampires don’t usually do!! She needs more information before she acts!
Agreeing to work together until they find out who is sending them the emails.
He could freeze her in place with a mere thought. Make her do anything he desired. But that would make him a monster. The kind he’d dedicated his life to eradicating. “I’ve lived longer than you can imagine. Seen history unfold for thousands and thousands of years. You’ve barely been alive a second in comparison.” Her mouth dropped open, and her heart picked up speed. “Holy shit.” “I could have anything I wanted from you.” Honesty might make her pull away, but better that happen now than after he’d had her. Jo was a human hunter with a limited lifespan, but she made him feel truly alive for the first time  in millennia. He’d lived long enough to understand how  truly precious that was.
And when they find out that vampires are after Jo! And a huge bounty is on her head! Well it’s going to take them working as a team.
Both are attracted to one another, and it’s all ok, until Jo finds out his a vampire. But she can’t help her feelings, but she works alone, it’s for the best, she can’t and won’t get attached.
Asher on the other hand is totally enamoured with Jo, she’s a warrior, a loner like him, but he can’t get her off of his mind. If he’s going to protect her and figure out who is pulling the strings, he’s going to need help.
“Something about you brings out a side of me I buried  long ago.” He’d thought it dead, but some tiny flicker in his  heart still yearned for an intimate connection. And that  scared the crap out of him. “Guess I’m just special.” Her voice was strained but  steady. His head jerked up. Was she joking? She was. The light  in her eyes and the twitching of her lips was a dead giveaway.  The pressure crushing his chest lessened. Could she really  mean it? “You are very special. Truly exceptional.” No  humor on his part.
The story like the first two in the series is full of action and a few twists.
It’s fun reading about a strong female bringing down the male. He’s all strong and posturing…. then BAM!! He’s down for the count and trying to keep his emotions in check.
It’s great that this series have females that are capable of looking after themselves. Only so many books with helpless females I can read!
Maccus plays I think a prominent role, he’s wondering why the brotherhood are being targeted?
Quick recap…. Maccus and Morrigan (Fury Unleashed) were sent to kill each other. That didn’t happen, they worked together to figure out Maccus is a pawn in the fight between heaven and hell! Then Alexei Medvedev and Cassie Dobbs meet, (Arctic Bite) it’s a contract on her life! Again they worked together to find out who was pulling the strings.
So I can see where Maccus is concerned that the brotherhood is being targeted.
Back to the story…..
Asher and Jo now aware of the danger, agree to work together.
In such close proximity sparks are sure to fly. Jo is aware her time with Asher is limited, Asher doesn’t worry, he’s decided to end his life when Jo gets old and dies. Happy with his vow, he intends to spend as much time her as he can. But first their stalker……
So who is behind the scenes pushing Asher and Jo together? For what purpose? Was Maccus correct when he thinks it’s the Brotherhood that’s in danger? Who has that type of power?
You don’t need to have read the first two books in this series. I don’t think you’ll miss anything.
Beautifully written, full of drama and passion. Moments of comedy and sadness. Descriptions that come to life on the page.
It’s a series that’s now on my TBR list.
I’d recommend this book all day long.

My Review…..
I’ve read this author before (The Rayburn Mysteries) so I was eager to see what this was all about….
Now that was different. I really enjoyed that.
Elizabeth Is happily in love, she has a secret she can’t wait to tell her stepfather and husband, but before she can do that, she overhears something that smashes her world to pieces!
I get the impression she’s quite a sheltered person, she might write novels under a pen name, but she lives the peaceful life. All she has ever wanted was a family, after losing her mother, her best friend and stepfather became her family, then Rafe was added, and Elizabeth was happy.
So she’s got no choice but to run…..
Rafe I wanted to hate, he really was vile to Elizabeth, but the more you read about him, the more you come to realise he had been played!
He really did love her at first, but an arrangement between Rafe and Harold (stepfather) with Elizabeth’s knowledge and consent (which he finds out she didn’t know about) sours the marriage, now he wants out! The marriage (unknown to Elizabeth) was only meant to be for a year.
He thinks she’s a gold digger, a cheat and possibly unable to conceive a child! Add in the fact his housekeeper hates Elizabeth, his mother despised her and wants him to marry someone with more clout in their circle!! (So he had that going on in the background)
My thoughts were if you were in love with that person wouldn’t you challenge them about the affairs? And why only a year?
Thought he was a bit of an a$$ to be honest. And a bit gullible (your new girlfriend is taking you for a FOOL!!)
I liked that, a second chance type of romance, not my usual read, but I really enjoyed the drama, the suspense, and although we knew who the bad guy was (stepfather) and we knew why, it was more than just that.
The secondary characters were great, they took Elizabeth (now Colby) under their wing and made her feel she finally had a family. They kept her safe from her stepfather, they bolstered her when she was low, and loved her unconditionally.
The first part of the book is Elizabeth trying to get to grips with the betrayal and shock of her marriage, throw in the fact her stepfather and best friend were trying to kill her (very large estate in trust for her) Coping with a pregnancy on her own, and still in love with her ex! She’s finally living the life she wants. But with constantly having to look over her shoulder for her stepfather it’s all taking it’s toll on her. But she’s not going to give up!
And I like she’s finding her backbone, she has an opinion and she’s not afraid to voice it anymore.
We jump to six months and find Colby (was Elizabeth) living a quiet life on a ranch, she has her extended family around her, and life is growing inside her nicely, she’s also written a book. Life is good (so you know something is coming to screw it up!)
Well it does……
From there it’s a fast pace of cat and mouse, Elizabeth pretending she doesn’t know what her best friend and stepfather are planning, planning for her future.
Then add Rafe wanting a second chance! She still loves him, and wants them to be a family.
But he’s going to have to prove he’s serious, she wants them to be together always, so it’s down to Rafe to show her.
It’s a second book in the series, I didn’t read the first one. But you don’t need to.
So will Rafe and Elizabeth/Colby get back together? What happens when he finds out about the baby? And can Elizabeth stay one step ahead of her stepfather?
Definitely recommend this book if your a fan of murder/mystery stories.

Arc Review….. Hostage: An Everyday Heroes World Novel (The Everyday Heroes World) by Jas T. Ward 👩🏻‍💻

Hostage: An Everyday Heroes World Novel (The Everyday Heroes World) by Jas T. Ward

Jas T. Ward’s Hostage is a thrill ride of adventure with a sexy, paranormal romance twist written in K. Bromberg’s The Everyday Heroes World project.

Evan O’Brien lived his immortal existence committed to a life of hardcore service to the secret war and army of The Grid. Zero time for love. That emotion complicated his control on all aspects of his life. He was determined his heart had no say so. And nothing or no one could change that.

Lily Devenmore spent her days working with kids and a job surrounded by books at the library. She lived loud and as bold as being born to the Grid allowed. As love found her sisters, Lily longed for it too. But she had yet to find a man who wanted her and not change her.

That all changed in one day—not only was she held hostage but Evan learned he held his heart from ransom far too long. Could they rescue each other? With help of some of your favorite characters from The Everyday Heroes World, they just might.

Publication date 10/9/2020 *

My Review…..

Evan works as second in command for the secret army The Grid. He’s good at his job, he works long and demanding hours so he doesn’t have time to be social, love and friendships take a back seat.

But all that changes when a hold up goes wrong and Lily is held hostage.

He has to face the fact that he likes her! Where that came from is anyone’s guess.

Well no, actually that’s a lie, Evan knows exactly where that thought came from. Seems like someone has a secret thing for Lily. And he’s had it for a while…..

Lily works in a private school teaching first graders. She also works in the local library

Lily has two sisters Emma and Rose, they both work for The Grid also. Lily and her sisters lost both their parents and their brother to the “cause” protecting civilians from the demons that hunt them.

Love isn’t high on her list of things to do, being in love hurt, so not for Lily thank you.

This book was so much fun to read. Set in a world where The grid is a secret army organised to fight demons and the things that creep out of hell!!!

Organised centuries ago, and here is the thing I found the most original, the good guys were all once bad guys! Earning a shot at redemption, if they pass, they get too live an immortal life on earth (still working for the grid I wasn’t sure on that part)

This book is part of a series. (The Everyday Hero’s World) its a little confusing finding the series.

I haven’t read any of the others, I don’t think your missing out on anything. They are connected in some way, but as they are written by different authors, it’s safe to say they don’t need to be read in order.

But the author also has a world for these characters (and I may go and have a look) think there might be a spin off as well!

Evan and Lily constantly bang heads, she’s too loud and in your face. Evan is a stickler for rules and paperwork, so you do have to wonder how they come together?!

Really well thought out and written. Very descriptive, hilarious in parts (I did like Lily’s attitude) she always had a comeback or put down.

I really liked Lily, except for her lack of self esteem, she was a pretty funny woman. Fiery and passionate, loyal to her family and close friends, but with a side that makes you want to cuddle her up close and fight in her corner. Watching her parents die couldn’t have been easy, watching her sisters gets all the attention from boys had to be hard, but Lily is a fighter, she’s come to terms with who she is, except when Evan tells her how sexy she is, it’s hard to believe him.

Evan is a character I’d like to know more about. Centuries old, a mob bosses enforcer, he had the chance to redeem himself and took it. With fangs and a tendency to go crispy in the sun, you’d think they were vampires! Nope! According to Evan not vampires, they just share a few of the sane characteristics (think it’s the fact they’ve come from hell)

I get the impression he can’t take time off, is it to atone for his past? He feels he has to be in control of everything.

The chemistry once lit between these two was explosive.

Evan started the ball rolling when they were trapped in the bunker, he told Lily exactly how he felt about her.

So how does a workaholic commander keep the loud and brash librarian/schoolteacher? Because trying to convince Lily he wants something more than a one night stand is going to be an uphill battle.

Arc Review… The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn 👩🏻‍💻

The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn

I can’t believe I have to go home to Nebraska for my sister’s wedding. I’m gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least my bestie agreed he’d man up and help. Too bad he had to catch a different flight than me. Then his plane got delayed. And finally—because bad things always happen in threes—instead of my best friend, his evil twin strolls out of the airport.

If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst—even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans.

Ten times worse? My buffer was supposed to be there to keep me away from the million and one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs us up for every. Single. Thing.

Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? I’m in. I can’t wait to take this guy down a notch.

But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, our bickering starts to feel like more than just a game…

My Review……

If you want a laugh with your read, you can’t go wrong with an Avery Flynn book.

I’ve read most of her work, and it always leaves me with a smile.

Written in the third persons point of view. We watch as Haley and Will do battle to see who comes out on top over a family member?

Haley Loves her best friend, but does she have to put up E.T (evil twin) or Mr Obnoxious all the time? He might be a billionaire, he might be the most eligible bachelor, but to Haley, he’s always be annoying.

Will thinks that Haley is a gold digger, his twin might be her “best friend” but he knows better, he’s seen her type before, and he’s determined to get rid of her.

When an opportunity presents itself. Will is quick to capitalise on it.

But what he gets is turned on his head, Haley is fun, kind and gentle. Did he really get it so wrong? And now Will wants her for himself, can he really do that to his brother?

It’s a laugh a minute, anything and everything that can go wrong does go wrong? Haley’s family is extremely close, and she finds that claustrophobic, she loves them dearly, just not 24/7! Thank goodness her best friend is coming to this wedding to pose as her boyfriend, but fates not that kind, it sends her nemesis in his place! And that’s when the trouble starts.

Will doesn’t think his twin and Haley’s friendship is just that, he thinks she’s after his money, so he’s going to expose her.

But spending time with her exposes her not as a fraud, but a kind and caring person. I did have to chuckle, boy did he have a lot of making up to do……

Loved Haley’s family, they were crazy in a good way. Ready to pitch in and help, but they could drive you nuts within minutes!

Games night? Was hilarious. Her grandfather was so funny. And when an old boyfriend of Haley’s turns up, is it relief that his brother won’t be fleeced by her or jealousy that it’s not him holding her hand?

So can Will see past his ex taking him for a ride? Can he get past his jealousy of his brother? Well technically Web and not Will have Haley in his life.

And when he finds out she really isn’t a gold digger can he apologise and get Haley to forgive him?

I’ve come to love reading anything by this author.

I couldn’t put it down till it was done. Highly recommend this book and this author.

Publication date 15/9/2020 *

My Review….
I like a good murder/mystery and this one wasn’t too bad. In fact I could see it as a movie or tv series.
Della is a reporter digging around for the next big story, married/divorced/still seeing her ex/husband/now boyfriend (yeah I got confused too!
She’s known Abit for years and counts him as a close and dear friend.
Vesper junior (Abit) or Rabbit as his wife calls him is happily married with kids and plays in a band with his wife and friends. Life might be dull, but Abit likes it that way thank you.
I felt so sorry for Vesper, he got the nickname because his father always called him “a bit slow”, which got shortened over time. I don’t know if I could be called Abit and know it’s nasty and not a cute nickname!
So we have Wallis and Abit bonding over music and using it to track killers, rather ingenious if you ask me.
Della uses her contacts in the paper to dig deeper, hoping to get a story out of it. But wanting to help the FBI (who she shared a sizzling kiss with!)
Reading the cover I did think a ménage. Sadly no, but in a way I’m glad, I don’t think it would have worked out😉
I liked how we came along for the ride, we saw all the thought processes and saw glimpses of their lives.
But it all gets a little too close to home when Abit’s kids get kidnapped by the killer! Will he be able to raise the ransom money in time?
The killer was pretty smart, and catching up with him was good. And a couple of clues might have you guessing who it might be.
I think there we just a few too many characters in this book, not sure we needed all those extra’s. But other than that, they were all pretty solid.
This book worked backwards, we see Abit running away from the killer, we don’t see who it it, we just see him run…..
Told mainly in Della’s and Abit POV. It needed just a little polishing, I felt something was missing. The connection between Abit and Della was good, the connection between Abit and Wallis wasn’t as well felt.
But I’d happily read another book with these characters in. They did make me smile, and at one point I did get a “scooby doo” moment 😉

My Review…..

Bella is the middle sister to Ava (main character in the first three books.)

I don’t think you need to read the first three books, but it will give you background on the sister’s and the story so far….

She’s the bookworm of the family, happy with her own company. She loves to read, and practises her magic at every opportunity.

She’s not happy that she’s got to look after her youngest sister Courtney, she’s is the rebel, the one that sneaks out to the human world.

Courtney is the youngest sister and loved by both Bella and Ava.

And I have a feeling we will get to meet her and read her story next.

A little background…..

Bella and her sister’s were a secret, her mother had an affair with the High Warlock, she then had to leave the realm to hide her daughters. If they had been found, the council would have put them to death. The High Warlock’s seat gets passed usually within the family.

The last three books concentrated in Ava and her battle to see her father and be accepted. She kept her sisters hidden in the human world.

Don’t want to give too much away for the first three books.

And when Courtney is poisoned, Bella can’t find a spell to help her sister!

Her only course of action….. her father!!

Travelling to the realm her father was in was easier than Bella expected. The visit to her father went better than she thought it would.

Finding a cure for her sister was proving a little more difficult!!

And now she has to face the council! They want her tested, and then to join the community! No thank you, Bella couldn’t think of anything worse! She liked her own company and the simple life her and Courtney lived.

Learning about her mother and fathers family was a nice surprise for both Bella and Courtney. They welcome to visit, it had Bella rethinking her ideas of going back to their home.

Getting to know her father was a big plus also, he seemed genuinely concerned for both of his daughters. I think I wanted to get to know them better.

But on the downside, there were people in this realm wanting the three sisters dead!

So will Bella and Courtney stay? Will Bella join the witches college?

I’m sure we will find out in the next book.

Arc Review… Dawn Rising (Awakened Book 1) Lisa M. Green 👩🏻‍💻

Dawn Rising (Awakened Book 1) Lisa M. Green

Once upon a time, a girl was born. A hundred years later, she grew up.

Aurianna must rewrite the past in order to save the future. She was supposed to be the answer to an enigmatic prophecy discovered on the night of her birth. But a terrible curse changed her life forever.

That is, until a mysterious stranger arrives to break the spell. He awakens Aurianna to the truth of her past and the powers she never knew she had.

When he sweeps her back in time, she discovers there is more to her life than she ever imagined. The world she encounters is both strange and familiar. But learning to control her newfound elemental powers will be the least of her problems.

She must race against time to uncover the truth about a catastrophe that will leave the world broken, divided, and at war.

Aurianna just wants answers. But the people need a saviour.

In waking dreams I glide on thorny paths Trampled upon by those who wish to harm. The briars all but broken in their haste To rid the world of what must come to pass. The roses dying, dying in their bed; A thankless death to purge the unseen past. An unknown path I take through the darkness To reach the grail I do not wish to seek.

Through sylvan screen, I know he’s waiting there, An unwilling specter in my dark thoughts. Never seeking, always finding, poor soul. He does not want this, a burdensome crown Upon his weary head, crushing down hope And freedom from what he knows he must do. This fearful dance will set the world ablaze; Embers ignite, dreams fading into dust.

But dreams are shadows of the waking world, Weaving a web of whispered promises. In the end, pricks may sting and thorns may bite; The spell was cast, but death did not take me. Fumbling, stumbling, crumbling mind.

In death I’ll not be someone’s rotting corpse. In sleep I lie in dreams that do not die, Awakened by one who knows my true name. *

My Review…..

A time travel book. Not my usual genre, but I’m always open to new authors and their ideas. The back cover intrigued me, so let’s go…..
People come out of the darkness, we should be scared, they are dangerous. But if captured they can be drained and then killed. But you need to burn the bodies. But who are the people? Are the citizens aware those people are drained and burned? There are lots of questions that need answering.
Aurianna knows she’s different, she doesn’t act the same as other, she can remember when the sun came out, when there was warmth in the air. But now there is only grey days and darkness.
I did find Aurianna a little annoying at times, acting like a grown up one moment and then childish.
And when a stranger comes to town, she begins to put pieces of a puzzle together. A time traveller, Aurianna is then told she’s the key to a prophecy, she can help the future, but it means she has to go to the past.
Pharis is a traveller, coming to the future is a dangerous thing, no one has come back yet, so it’s all resting on him. Meeting Aurianna didn’t go the way he expected, and trying to convince her to go to the past with him proves interesting.
What happens next is a fast paced race through this book.
Going back to the past to change the future, sounds easy right? Wrong!
And they have to train Aurianna to use her powers, but I also get the feeling they are leaving a few things out!
And what is the darkness? Do Aurianna and Pharis need to be wary of it?
I have to admit i throughly enjoyed the book!
First books in a new series need to be finely balanced, too much information and we get stuck, not enough information and it doesn’t keep the readers interest. This had it. And it kept me turning the pages.
But I felt the characters needed a little more work, they felt a little stiff. I know we are in hard times, but there doesn’t seem any lightheartedness. And the like/hate/love between Pharis and Aurianna needed just a tweak, they almost seemed to gel, then they’d lose it.
And we have a twist I didn’t see coming. And the ending has you wondering it the next book will start there…..

My Review….

Skylar Is sister to Kaisa, (from book 1 “The Rogue King”) second oldest sister of four Phoenix shifters.

Skylar and her three sisters were separated and hidden from the world by their mother Serefina. She was afraid of the High King, the Red Dragon Pytheios. She’d watched as he slaughtered her mother, and then her beloved mate Zilant King of the White Dragons. He had hoped to mate with her, or destroy her and gain her powers for himself!

They were all taught to be wary of dragons especially the red dragon Pytheios. If found, they will be forced to mate and that dragon will be the ruler of all dragons! Other shifters will seek to use their powers!

What starts out as a rescue mission, Skylar thinks Kaisa has been caught and forced to mate the now Gold King, turns into a fight for freedom. Hearing her sister willing mated Brand, Skylar goes to retreat. Only to find Landon blocking her way. She’s now is prisoner! But not for long, Skylar won’t be anyone’s prisoner, nor will she be a dragon’s bride! Let battle commence!

Landon is the king of the blue dragons, after losing Kaisa to Brand, he’s running out of time. (If dragons don’t find their mate, they go mad and start to age) he’s got Pytheios breathing down his neck, he’s losing ground. He needs something to restore his clan’s faith, and a Phoenix will do that. He’s not prepared for the feelings Skylar stirs up in him. She drives him crazy, and not always in a good way….

Being a mate to the blue dragon king is not what Skylar envisaged for herself. Being told by her mother that dragons will only want her for her Phoenix and not the woman has made her very wary.

There is fireworks from the beginning of this book.

Really like this series , even though it’s only two books so far, (its a spin off from the Fire’s edge series.) You don’t have to read those to enjoy this series.

I Liked the fact Skylar is very independent, but she’s had to be. Always on her guard has made her very distrustful. Knowing she’s only a mate because she’s a Phoenix and a legacy that comes with it (mate a Phoenix rule all the dragons) puts you in the low self esteem category.

But she makes the most of it. But Skylar isn’t going to give up without a fight. She wants a partnership, not a prison!

Landon is fighting both his feelings for his mate, and the High King the Red Dragon Pytheios, the High King wants all the dragons under his rule, and has taken all but the blue clan.

Lots of action, enough passion, and a few laughs along the way.

It’s nice to catch up with the previous couple.

And also snippets of both Skylar’s and Landon’s pasts.

We also have the two remaining sisters out in the world, will we get to see them before the end of this book? 🤫

And will Landon be able to drive the Pytheios out of the blue dragon territory and possibly kill him?

Arc Review… British Black Sheep (A Cocky Hero Club Series Novel) by Lauren Smith 👩🏻‍💻

British Black Sheep (A Cocky Hero Club Series Novel) by Lauren Smith

He is exactly the kind of man Brie Honeyweather swore never to love…or lust after ever again: a sexy, arrogant, British bad boy in a designer suit.Alec is the last person Brie wants to be stuck on an international flight to London with, but hey…at least they’re in first class.

When their flight has to make an emergency landing in a snowstorm just before Christmas, Brie and Alec are thrown together in a single bedroom in a tiny English village. As the snowstorm rages outside, things get intense and emotions and lust run hot. Alec reminds Brie just how much she misses being with a man and how easy it is to fall head over heels too fast.

What should have been an amazing one nightstand turns into a week-long secret romance at Alec’s family estate when Brie realizes her new boss is Alec’s mother, a British countess. While Brie tries to focus on writing a Christmas book with the countess, all she can think about is getting back into bed with Alec.

She shouldn’t fall for the arrogant brit, especially when their lives are oceans apart and neither of them wants a serious relationship. But Christmas magic has a way of working miracles. Maybe Santa will bring her a happy ending after all…

Publication date 16/8/2020
My Review ……
“ “You’re not going to die.” Brie Honeyweather laughed at her friend’s quip over the phone. If anyone could calm her down right now, it was Bridget. “I know,” Brie said with a sigh. “But it’s been a while since I’ve taken one of these international flights. It’s a little scary. That’s all.” She shifted on the blue leather chair in the gate area. Her flight was scheduled to board in half an hour and all around her the other travelers were stuffing snacks in carry-on bags and adjusting curved pillows around their necks.” Excerpt from British Black Sheep
Brie is a ghostwriter, she’s been doing it for about four years, she loves it, speaking to people and capturing stories and biographies. And when a famous authors asks her to help on a Christmas story, Brie is there. Well, almost there, she has to get on a plane first…..
Alec is on his way home, burnt out and exhausted with his job. He lives his job, 24/7 being an investment banker gives him the thrills and excitement he craves. The money’s not bad either.
And when a delightful young woman scolds him on the plane, Alec has found his entertainment for the long flight home. Teasing her is going to be a lot of fun.
Being forced to land before scheduled to was unsettling. But to share a room with Alec is mind blowing….
She’s suppose to be unpacking at the beautiful Manor House and writing with the countess, instead she’s stuck with the arrogant if not handsome Brit!!!
Both Alec and Brie are attracted to one another, they give in and have no regrets.
Finding out that they will both be under the same roof at the countess’s home is fun for Alec, but mortifying for Brie! And when she finds out he’s her son!! Well Brie just wants to go home!
Alec then sets about chasing and persuading Brie to have fun with him whilst she’s here. Brie agreed but as long as it remains a secret between them. And when she goes home, that’s it. Alec is up first that, a bit of fun over Christmas, then back to work. No strings, just how he likes it.
But just like string, they get tangled up like Christmas lights. It’s not easy trying to keep emotions out of this, it’s only suppose to be fun!
Brie is going back home soon, and Alec needs to go back to London.
I have to admit, reading a Christmas book in the middle of summer was different.
I’ve read a few of this author’s books. And I’ve always enjoyed them. This one was no different.
Definitely a feel good Christmas story😉
“ Alec stepped into his grandfather’s study and placed the last of Walter’s old journals down on the desk. He’d spent the last month reading everything he could find from his grandfather. There’d been close to a hundred journals cataloging Walter’s life. Alec eased down into the leather chair. A hint of that old cigar smoke still lingered in the air, but the memory of a ghost was now welcome to him. Coming home to Merryvale had meant finding his grandfather and positive memories in every nook and cranny of the old estate. Alec removed a new empty leather journal from its packaging and set it down beside his grandfather’s on the desk. When he took up a pen and turned to the first page, he thought of his grandfather’s stories, the things he learned, and what falling in love with Brie had meant to him. With a deep breath, he dated the first page and began to write. Brie and I lay beneath the ancient cedar trees of our home, marvelling at the distant striations of clouds as we held each other close, and in that moment, we were infinite…” excerpt from British Black Sheep

Arc Review… He Owns My Heart: A Contemporary MM Romance (Owned Heart, Body, & Soul Book 1) by Evie Drae 👩🏻‍💻

He Owns My Heart: A Contemporary MM Romance (Owned Heart, Body, & Soul Book 1) by Evie Drae

Only true love can free a captive heart.

Landon Jenks, retired four-time Golden Glove-winning shortstop for the Chicago Cubs, is lonely, heartbroken, and in need of simple human contact. Trapped in the fine print of an ironclad contract forbidding him from revealing his single status until the season finale of his reality show airs, he calls an elite male escort service catering to the rich and desperate.

Accustomed to servicing his often less than savory clients at more upscale locales, twenty-six-year-old Toby Carmichael is surprised when his handler sends him to a run-down motel off I-55. But “surprise” doesn’t come close to describing the shock that rocks his system when a delightful stuttering mess covered in tattoos and nearly ten years his senior stumbles into the room—and right into his heart.

For the first time since Toby was forced into the life of prostitution, a kiss sparks a desire that has nothing to do with money and everything to do with genuine chemistry and the faintest beginnings of something so much more. But Toby’s dark past and troubled present make it impossible to see a future with Landon. When the truth comes to light, a horrified and helpless Landon is determined to save Toby at all costs.

My Review…..

Landon is lonely, he’s usually only wanted for his name and not his company. Having played baseball to a professional level, he’s now a reality star and owner of a custom made bike shop. He’s hiding from life, his last relationship was a publicity stunt orchestrated by his “co-star” to “come out” (more ratings for the show) will he find no one to love him? In a sorry moment, Landon hires an escort.

But meeting the vibrant young man makes Landon all to aware of his failings….

Tobias/Toby whore, prostitute, hooker, he’s heard them all.

He’s sold himself to help his sister (she got caught up with drug dealers) his family are unaware of his predicament, but he’s told often by handler they are safe, for now!

So an eight year contract had been drawn up, and Toby services the “clients” never off duty, nothing is too much trouble, He keeps reminding himself that’s it’s just three more years, then he’s free. But he’s not sure how much more he can take, he’s slowly losing himself, and it’s killing him inside!!

I liked this story. Yes the usual “pretty woman” scenario, wealthy attractive single man meets prostitute (blah blah blah)

But unlike “pretty woman” we have a M/M scenario.

The story for me had a real depth (I usually read paranormal romance if m/m involved) but the backstory had me intrigued. And the story had me hooked from almost the first page.

It’s a Romeo and Juliette type story, a forbidden love, a love that can go nowhere, a love doomed!

A week stolen just for themselves. But will it make it harder when Landon has to let Toby go?

There are a lot of triggers on this book (it does carry a warning label) there is a lot of baggage that both men carry.

Abuse, self harm, homophobia and many more.

The BDSM wasn’t the usual angry spanky tie me up and whip me scenes. It was about trusting someone to know your limits and to take care of you, putting your wants and needs above their own.

Yes there is a fair amount of sex in this book, but considering they think they’ve only got a week together, I sort of understand it, and luckily enough it doesn’t go on and on and on and on!! The couples moments had me sighing, the ordinary stolen moments that Landon and Toby were storing up to take out when they were alone were touching.

Each in love, but too scared to voice it. And if they did, what could they do about it?

So can Landon free Toby? How can he, when the men controlling Toby hold all the cards? And it had me guessing right up until the last few pages (I thought it would end of a cliffhanger)

Loved Steffon (Landon BFF) he was a riot! Camp when needed, light relief when things got too heavy, confidant and agony aunt. Every time he opened his mouth I chuckled, that guy had no filter.

I’m so hoping we get another book. I’d like Steffon to have a book.

Highly recommend this book. Yes it’s a Pretty Woman story, but my god it’s a good one.

The Legend of All Wolves Series:

The Last Wolf (Book 1)

A Wolf Apart (Book 2)

Forever Wolf (Book 3)

Season of the Wolf (Book 4)

Publication date 25/8/2020 *

My Review ……

“ In the forest stark and grim live unspeakable things. My mother had never been one for bedtime stories. Never one for articulating much at all. Mostly she cleaned her tiny house—I never thought of it as mine or ours—with the fierceness of a woman who knew civilization danced on a razor’s edge and a single misfolded towel or an undusted mote was enough to send it toppling.” Excerpt from Season of the Wolf

Constantine knows how hard life is. A killer for the pack, he’s not sure if he fits the pack now, his deceased leader had different views, but the more time he spends with Evie, the more he knows this is home.

And when Evie finally comes round, he needs to prove to her that he loves the pack, and not just her. She not an easy wolf to know, but he keeps at it, he feels her pain and he feels like he’s the wolf for the job.

Evie is alpha, it’s a cold and lonely position. After losing her mate in the previous book (see you do have to read in order)she needs to carry on for the pack.  It’s hard, but it’s her duty, so basically suck it up and get on with it.

Her ideas are simple, keep the pack safe at all times.

I’ve read the previous 3 books, and the series just keeps getting better.

The characters although not as good as the previous books hold onto your heart and make you believe in their story. It was great to catch up with older characters from previous books.

This series really is different from most shifter books. These are wolves that can change into humans, it’s not their preferred form, they love being wolves, it’s what they are.

And the wolf pack is EVERYTHING, above family and even mates. The pack provides protection, security and unconditional loyalty.

The world is harsh and unforgiving, the scenes can upset you, but that’s the sign of a good book.

I couldn’t put it down.

Constantine was in the last book like Evie and I liked him immensely and I’m glad it’s his turn for a story.

We meet up with previous characters from the last three books.

I feel you definitely need to read in order, there is a story that if you skip books you’ll miss out on information.

They are difficult to read, but please persevere. They are well worth the effort. This book although not action packed, I don’t think it was necessary (that was in the last book) we focused on how the pack was reforming and licking their wounds from the last battle, (maybe the next book will have more action?)

I’m not sure if I can stand another book in this series, it tugs at the heart string too much, but it’s a book that once your in, you are trapped till the end.

Another great read, and one I’m glad to have read. Highly recommend this book.

Arc Review…. Vitality by Crysta Levere 📱

Vitality by Crysta Levere

She’s fighting for life. He’s fighting for death.

What does it take to live? What does it take to love?

To Ava, love is about as real as fairy tales. But it might be that fairy tales, myths, and magic have some truth to them after all — as well as the monsters that lie in the shadows. Or she could just be completely out of her mind.

After a mental breakdown and a move to a new town, everything changes when Ava clashes with a stranger with eyes as black as midnight and a terrifying sinister air. Her wishes to feel something again become granted. But Ava soon learns that not only is he as cold as he is beautiful, but he brings something out of her, stronger than ever, like fuel to fire — something she’s desperate to bury. He haunts her dreams and waking life, and staying away becomes harder than she could have ever imagined, risking her life, her humanity, and the people that she cares about. Not to mention the fate of the world.

A violent passion. A dangerous bond. A nightmare that will change everything.

She could spend a lifetime searching, and looking for the one thing that might make her whole, that made the reason for her existence, even though, possibly, she could be forever lost in doing so. She could feel that was the only way, even if it took a lifetime, an eternity, a forever. She could follow her heart. Or she could stay… where she was a person — only half, though still more than a drifting wind — only helpful to another’s existence and not anymore her own. She could stay, starving and wilting, knowing each day that this pull, this grab from reality she felt every minute of every day, could be seizing her… asking her… needing her to follow it — and knowing it until her last petal fell. *

My Review …….

“ We’re all blind and numb when we are closed. We’re closed when we are damaged. We’re damaged when we give up. Now, how do I open that door…” excerpt from Vitality.

Oooooh I liked that one…..

Poor Ava, she’s just trying to get by. Recovering from a mental breakdown, she’s moved to a new town, and now she just wants to be left alone.

Moving into a house with a housemate isn’t idea. Dahlila starts out as a nuisance, she won’t leave Ava alone. Introducing her to her friends Danny and Shane.

Slowly she accepts the friendship they offer. Maybe she will get stronger, maybe this place can heal her.

“She was a starved soul with a heart big enough for two. The drawing she had been sketching on the bus came to mind, and she wished she hadn’t lost it. It was the first one she’d done of herself, sketching it from the bus window’s reflection, raindrops and all. To her, it reflected a person who was searching for a home… for far too many years. As her mind drifted away, she imagined herself as that drawing: taken high in the wind, this way and that way across town, to finally float down from the sky along with the setting sun, just to find itself on a high ledge about to fall over, and then snatched up by fingers coming out into the night. Ava finally closed her eyes and fell away somewhere.” Excerpt from Vitality

Layton is a vampire.

After seeing Ava, she’s his new obsession, and with all his past obsessions it too will fade.

But she doesn’t, she haunts him, she makes him crazy! Why can’t he just take her and drain her?

The game he plays with her mind is cruel, but not to him, it’s only a game, the hunt, the whispering, the touches. But as he plays with her, she slowly lures him in, what’s so special about her? Why can’t he break he break her spell?

“ Fire rose in him as he set on her new fate, seeming to inflate his veins impossibly, sending life through him once again, a life that had dried up long ago and left him an empty vessel for death’s wishes. He was a true master of death and errant to the rules of this world. Layton followed the contours of his lips with the tip of his tongue, licking any remaining blood. He opened his eyes as an animal in hunt would when first sensing their prey. The corner of his mouth curved up as his dank, hungry eyes narrowed with profound intent.” Excerpt from Vitality

The story does jump around, the points of views from both Ava and Layton had me a little confused!

It’s not your usual vampire story, this is very dark.

Dealing with depression is always a tricky subject.

Dealing with loss needs to be dealt handled with care.

And both these subjects were treated with respect and research.

The authors idea of a vampire is very different.

My feelings towards this book, is confusion, but I did like all the characters, her new pack of friends were well rounded. The “Elite” group at college were all the people we loved to hate (pretentious, false and glamorous)

Layton and his crew were shrouded in mystery. All we got was snippets (but that had me wanting more)

And I did not see the end coming, totally threw me.

Arc Review.. The Revolutionary and the Rogue by Blake Ferre 👩🏻‍💻

The Revolutionary and the Rogue by Blake Ferre

Perrin deVesey knows pain. As a member of Crimson Rose, a secret club for men who love men, he’s taken the vow “to stand and shield.” Standing together during these perilous times is the only thing keeping their necks from the guillotine. Now their leader is using the club to rescue wrongly accused traitors. After losing a past lover to an unjust execution, the decision to support this treasonous cause is easy…until a devastatingly handsome Committee Officer complicates Perrin’s whole world.

Officer Henri Chevalier hates aristocrats. But the man he finds while investigating Crimson Rose is more than just wealthy and fancily clothed. He’s a rogue that could take him to the heart of the uprising and stop it before it starts. His plan to get close to Perrin and steal his secrets backfires, though, when Henri finds himself falling for the damned aristo and his dangerous smile. His heart is even more conflicted as he learns the truth behind their cause…and the truth his own people have been hiding.

Together they must make the choice—to stand and shield at any cost—and their love might be the deadliest weapon in all of France.

Publication date 24/8/2020

My Review ….
If I read M/M it’s usually shifter based. So reading a Regency M/M romance it’s a little out of my usual genre. But I’ll give it a go…..
Perrin is a fop, he gives the impression he’s a bored rich aristocrat, in fact he’s helping to free rich people (aristocrats) like him. The French Revolution may have ended, but the rich are still being persecuted.  Julian and Perrin met in a club for men who love other men, but it’s forbidden. And after losing the love of his life, he didn’t really care for much, but he swore to his beloved he would help wherever he could.  So on the anniversary of Julien’s death, he’s back at the club they use to frequent with old friends to raise a glass. And to see if they can help the Scarlet Crest! And who is the scarlet crest? No one knows. But many people want to find out, Perrin must be careful. His life and the lives of his friends are at stake!
Henri is an officer in the French Revolutionary army. His job is to capture spies, he enjoys his work. Freeing the poor from the reign of the aristocracy.  He hates the rich, they ruined his life, and the lives of his family, so he won’t stop until everyone in France is an equal.  Getting a password to the Scarlet Crest meeting place, Henri hopes to find information on where and when the next rendezvous is and how to stop them from fleeing the country.
Perrin and Henri meet by accident, Henri saves Perrin from being trampled. Both have a lustful thought at being so close to a stranger. But reality comes crashing in even Henri realises the man he saved is an aristocrat!! Perrin is mortified that he feels anything, he should still be mourning for his beloved Julien, not lusting after someone else!  They meet again at the Scarlet Crest meeting place. It’s still hostile between them, but so is the strange attraction!
Does Henri believe Perrin is helping the rich to flee? He doesn’t want to, but why would he be here?  And can Perrin trust Henri, when he knows how much he hates the rich?
I liked the characters, I liked the premise, but I have to be honest, I didn’t really enjoy the book.  I’m not sure what spoilt it for me. But something was missing. I know gay relationships were frowned upon in those days. And I know it’s a crime to have those feelings. But I didn’t get that feeling from the book, it didn’t feel cloak and dagger. I got the intrigue, I got a little suspense. It just fell a little short.  I just didn’t believe the feelings. To me there didn’t seem the passion, the fire, the urgency.  The characters of Henri and Perrin were good, they were solid and well thought out. Loved Quill (Perrin’s friend) he was fun.  As I said, lots of great ideas, just not quite there with the execution.

Arc Review… The Billionaire’s Fake Wife: Enemies to Lovers Standalone Romance (Big Bad Billionaires Book 1 by L.Steele 👩🏻‍💻

The Billionaire’s Fake Wife: Enemies to Lovers Standalone Romance (Big Bad Billionaires Book 1 by L.Steele 👩🏻‍💻

I never should have agreed to becoming his fake wife…

Sinclair Amadeus Sterling aka

Mr. Superior Jackass with a God complex.

Who also happens to be my blackmailer… gulp.

Tall, dark, gazzilionaire growly pants.

The first time I met him, I kneed him in his very well endowed balls, don’t ask!

He had that tightly leashed, controlling air and a smoldering glare that made me damp in seconds.

The only thing that sucks worse than his attitude is his (lack of) sense of humor! Honest.

Sadly, he’s also the one who could save my business from going bust. Hell!

So when he offers me the chance to work with him, I can hardly refuse, right?

Only catch? I need to be his pretend wife for hold-your-breath, thirty days.

I should have turned and run right then, but…

He has the connections to help my sister’s failing health, not to mention the money to wipe away my debt.

And yeah that… sneaky video recording of him getting me off. OMG!

Besides, it’s only thirty days, right?

It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with London’s most notorious bachelor.

Then he tells me the real reason for the charade.

And everything changes…

Note: This is a standalone Enemies to Lovers, Fake Marriage, Billionaire Romance featuring a hot possessive billionaire and the curvy spitfire who dares to go toe to toe with him!

Publication date 18/8/2020 *

My Review…..

Sinclair has no patience for idiots, his business sense is off the scale, and so Is his bullshit meter!

Women are playthings, nothing or no one will change his plans for world domination!

His ego is huge and so is his dick! He makes no apologies, if you don’t like it, tough!

But meeting Summer or his little bird puts him in an uncomfortable position, which he doesn’t like. Sin is in charge, not some cute and curvy female he wants to spank and protect at the same time! Not happening …..

Summer is a nerd, she loves pub quizzes her mind is full of useless information, her favourite is movie trivia.

Trying to help her sister (she has hole in the heart and is pretty poorly) with medical bills and getting her clothing designs made (Karma is good at what she does)

Her one chance at putting her little company on the map and making sure her sister is ok is in the hands of this presumptuous gazzilionaire!!

It’s not going to be easy, in fact she got more chance of walking on the moon!! Why does he have to make her life such a headache?

Now I have to admit I really didn’t like this book.  I’ve read enemies-to-lovers books before. But never have I hated a male character so much.

The storyline is full of bullying, crassness and sheer arrogance!!

Summer is a total mess around Sinclair, she doesn’t know her way round this situation. She wants him, and then he says or does something, and she’s ready to slap his arrogant face!

But persevere, watching this asshole (or alphahole as the author likes to call him) fall for Summer…. Watching him change his attitude towards her was worth the wait.

His reasons for wanting Summer had me (raising my eyebrows/shaking my head)

The sex scenes are hot, full of passion and intense.

Some of this will make you cringe, other parts will make you roll your eyes, but be prepared to laugh, it’s highly amusing and will make you smile.

You don’t need to read the first book in this series, it’s just some of the characters are in both stories, and gives a little background.

Arc Review… The Roommate Problem by Mariah Ankenman 👩🏻‍💻

The Roommate Problem by Mariah Ankenman

To Moira “Mo” Rossi, the world is full of sunshine, goodness, and happily ever afters—so of course she figures finding the perfect roomie will be easy. But after four creepos who ask if benefits come with the room and one woman who claims she’s a vampire, Mo is officially desperate. So what if the guy she agrees to on paper ends up being the Derrick Downer to her Sally Sunshine in person? She’s the queen of making lemonade.

August Porter expected his new roommate Mo to be like him—neat, practical, and oh yeah: male. Not the outrageous hippie with more stars in her eyes than there are in the sky. She’s infuriating, exasperating, his exact opposite in every possible way…and the bright ray of sunshine he didn’t even realize his gray world was missing. Suddenly, falling into bed with his roommate isn’t the worst idea he’s ever heard. Just falling in love with her is.

But one of them is keeping a secret that could turn their opposite attraction into utter disaster.

Publication date 10/8/2020 *

My Review…..

Moira has a sunny disposition, her rose coloured glasses outlook works for her. Her devil may care attitude and boho style. Add in her love of junk food, and you’ve got a fun loving wedding organiser.

August is a neat freak. Everything in its place, nothing wrong with a home that’s immaculate. He likes organic food, the gym and helping others. Not really a fun loving guy, more practical.

I had a chuckle through the whole book. Poor Moira, all she wants is someone like her to help pay the rent, what’s she gets is a procession of weirdos and creeps!
And when she meets August, at first she thinks he’s kind of cute, then he goes and ruins it by being a jerk. August on the other hand isn’t too impressed, she’s untidy, she’s just the total opposite of him.
But the more time they spend together, the more August sees past the mess, the jangling jewellery and pineapple on the pizza, and begins to like what he sees.
Mo sees the good in everyone, wants to give the benefit of the doubt to people. And bouncing everywhere.
She lives life to the full, and she just had so much energy (probably the sugar coated cereal)
The book bounces along beautifully, the characters just spark off each other. Love August’s Gran, she’s just a fun loving person.

The romance between Mo and August is such a rollercoaster of emotions. Mo is determined to make August have fun, August is determined to help his Gran, then go back home. The attraction might sizzle between them, but he can’t fall for someone so sloppy.
But when the sparks ignite, both August and Mo try to keep to fun only, no commitments, no promises, just fun until August goes home.

And the secret one of them is keeping…. I can’t tell you, that’s for you to find out when you read this funny book.

Arc Review… Redemption (The Guardians) Book 4 by S.Hamil 📱

Redemption (The Guardians) Book 4 by S.Hamil

Former Dark Angel Joshua Brandon has skirted a forever un-death in the Underworld until his heart yanks him from his life of debauchery and back into the Human World. He has accepted a very stealth assignment from the man upstairs to perhaps obtain those white wings he’s never wanted until now.

But it will require him turning back to the dark side. And just after his promise is made, the only woman he’s ever loved comes back into his life. She is in desperate need of saving. But as a Dark Angel, the only thing he can do is claim her soul for his own in the Underworld.

Will he have to throw away any hope of redemption, in order to save her?

Book 4 in this popular series about Guardian Angels, Dark Angels, the healing power of love, and good vs. evil. Although, evil can be more fun!

Remember, in this world: Heaven is created by design. The Underworld is created by accident.

The Guardian Angel Series

Book 1 Heavenly Lover

Book 2 Underworld Lover

Book 3 Underworld Queen

Book 4 Redemption

Publication date 21/7/2020 *

My Review …..

Remember Joshua? No! He isn’t a nice guy, he’s a dark angel with a real bad boy attitude, except that’s not an attitude.

Seeing the Underworld for as many years as Joshua did changed him. Tempting angels/guardians to fall from heaven and become a dark/fallen angel.

But he was given a shot at redemption, he’s done good so far……

But now God/Father wants him to return to the Underworld and bring back all those angels and guardians, simple right? No!

Joshua has been with us through all the previous books, whispering, plotting and conniving in the background, so how come he got a clean slate? (Well to find out your going to have to read the other books)

Melanie loved and lost Joshua, and now with a chance to meet up with him she jumps at the chance.

But when she has to travel to the underworld she’s not sure. But with the chance of happiness she has to weigh it all up. Does she want to be with him that much?

I didn’t think Joshua should have had a happy ending, he really had no redeeming qualities, but reading more about him, you have to change your mind.

Loved the interaction between Father and Joshua, it did make me chuckle.

I liked this book, we caught up with previous characters, we watch as he interacts with fallen angels (trying to convince them to leave the underworld for heaven) his has admits his faults to Melanie.

The spark that was between Melanie and Joshua never really left them.

Lots of stuff going on, backstabbing (literally) and double dealings. Who can you really trust in the underworld?

The story sets off at a nice pace, and continues through the book. As in the previous three books, both worlds are written really well. Yes the underworld is dark, but it’s also fascinating, the diversity and the cultures, it’s like a dark earth, but no real law, power is everything and there are a few that want to rule.

So can he let Melanie give everything up to be with him in the underworld? And when his job is finished, what happens to him? Father says he has a place in heaven, he can earn those wings and go home, but what about Melanie? Can he really turn his back on the only person who loves him? Can he leave her a second time?

And can Melanie trust Joshua, he’s lied and left her before. What’s to stop the underworld from claiming him again?

I’d recommend you read at least book 2 (this is where we meet Joshua and Melanie.) it’s better if you read them in order, I have and it’s definitely helped.

I’m hoping for a few more books. We still have s couple of characters that need sorting out. So who knows. I’ll hero my fingers crossed.

Arc Review…. Zone of Action (In the Zone series) by Cathy Skendrovich 📱

Zone of Action (In the Zone series) by Cathy Skendrovich

Former terror cell expert Audrey Jenkins has seen enough death and destruction to last a lifetime. When she uncovers her ex, Brett, a higher-ranking officer in her unit, selling military secrets, she turns him in and returns to the simpler life she has embraced since leaving the army.

CID Special Agent Cam Harris is a career military man with a strong sense of duty. When a military prisoner who once saved his life in Afghanistan escapes while in his custody, he requests the assignment to track him down.

Cam’s manhunt leads him to Audrey’s door. His prisoner—her ex—will resurface here, he’s sure of it. The feisty woman wants nothing to do with hunting down her ex, but when a terror cell she’s all-too-familiar with launches a deadly attack on army intelligence soldiers and officers, she knows it’s Brett.

Helping Cam is the right thing to do. But the attraction burning between them may be the mistake that gets her and Cam killed… *

Publication date 27/7/2020

My Review …….

“I’ll kill you for this, Audrey Jenkins. Sleep with one eye  open, because I’ll be coming for you, bitch. This isn’t over  by a long shot.” Excerpt from “Zone of Action”

Those words constantly haunt her, and they were uttered by her ex!!

Audrey had noticed her boyfriend acting really weird, and put it down to maybe an affair, that she could have coped with, what she couldn’t accept was the fact Brett was a traitor, to sell out his country was reprehensible, he had to be punished! And facing him in court took guts, he stopped being the man she loved. It was time to move on…..

CID Special Agent Cameron “Cam” Harris wanted to give his friend the benefit of the doubt. He surely couldn’t be a traitor?!

That benefit of the doubt turns out to be the biggest mistake of his career…..

Audrey is living the quiet life, serving her country as a terrorist expert has ended, she’s now a owner of a flower shop.

Having Brett escape him burned Cam, his friend was a traitor, he was going to prison, and Cam wanted to take him there. And now it’s his job to recapture him and put him back in handcuffs.

He’s almost certain Brett will go back and kill his girlfriend, but Cam thinks there is more to it than that, did she hear something she wasn’t suppose to? Or did she have something that Brett needed? Well he was going to find Audrey and ask her. She was either going to help him, or she’s bait!!

The attraction between Cam and Audrey is a slow burn romance, she isn’t ready for anyone yet, and certainly not the best friend of her traitorous ex!!

But as they work together to find Brett, they can’t help but become closer.

But is Cam using Audrey as bait? Will she be able to lure him out? And if Brett takes the bait, will they be able to stop him before he hurts anyone else?

A fast paced action story. A few twists along the way.

I don’t usually read mysteries, but I’m glad I did with this one.

Cam is ex army, a good career cut short after a good friend dies in the field. Taking his training in the army, he becomes an agent that investigates service men and women. He never once thought he’d have to take his best friend to prison.

Audrey is also ex military, so she doesn’t scare easily, which is a good job. Her being hunted by an ex would frighten most people.

They work well together, find clues, working out where Brett might be, and what his game plan is.

The style of writing was really good, very descriptive, flowed really well. Nothing seemed wasted, I didn’t get that feeling of page filling.

Secondary characters Zack and Elena were great, Elena is best friend and coworker to Audrey, their friendship is lovely, very solid. Especially when Brett burns down the flower shop!

I liked Zack, very down to earth, liked his sense of humour (hoping he gets a book)

If you like your romance with a heavy dose of military and mystery, then this book is for you.

Cathy Skendrovich……

I recently moved to Star, Idaho, and live overlooking a beautiful pond. I’m a happily married mom of two twenty-something sons. One is newly married and in the Army, and the other is pursuing his teaching credential. My husband and I are lucky enough to have retired early, and enjoy our time together travelling, gardening, or just hanging out with our seven-year-old Sheltie, Scooter. I have always enjoyed the written word, be it in books, plays, or even letters. Contemporary romance, suspense, and historical fiction have always been my favorite reads, and I’ve logged thousands of hours immersed in the worlds of those various genres.

My education, a teaching career (in English, of course), and raising a family took precedence over writing for many years, though scraps of paper scrawled with my fanciful musings could be found tucked throughout my house during those busy days. Diapers and play-dates couldn’t stem the creativity I had lurking in my brain. I’ve always had an overabundance of ideas compared to writing time.

When I just couldn’t hold back the desire any longer, I started writing down one of my many ideas in the form of a story. Eventually I got brave enough to join an online writing site. Reaction to my story and writing style was so favorable that it encouraged me to continue. With readers constantly telling me to get published, I took their advice and sent out one of my stories, Prisoner of Love. It was published by Entangled Publishing, LLC, in October 2015. It was followed by The Pirate’s Bride, from Literary Wanderlust, in January, 2017, and that book’s sequel, The Pirate Bride’s Holiday Masquerade, also from Literary Wanderlust, which came out October, 2017. My latest novel, Undercover with the Nanny, debuted in April, 2018, from Entangled publishing. My latest book, a military romantic suspense entitled Zone of Action, also through Entangled, will debut on June 22, 2020.

I hope my life story encourages some of you to follow your dreams, too. It’s never too late to start that new career, turn that next corner, or realize your secret passions. If you have the craving to produce that next great screenplay, the next Mona Lisa, or the most divine carrot cake ever imagined, go for it. You’ll never be sorry for trying. Only for letting opportunities pass you by.

My Review…..

Heavy is in the band that Eagle manages and Grizz sings in.
He’s known the guys for a while now, not as long as they’ve known each other, but he’s comfortable with them. He had their back and knows they have his.  The names Eagle and Grizz have explain what they are, but Heavy? I did think elephant!  But no, he’s a boar shifter!

“Because I love her, but I hate that I do. Not because of her, but because of who I am. I’m a king, but she’s a Helen of Troy, a beauty beyond anything this world could ever conjure. But she’s out of reach. That doesn’t mean I don’t catch her another three times as the night progresses. And each time I do, I wait for her hands to clasp onto my shoulders. They don’t. A part of me is grateful. If she touched me willingly, we’d know for sure what we’ve always known—that she has no crown-shaped birthmark, that she isn’t a destined queen, that she isn’t mine. The deeper part of me spends the night wishing, while also inanely and frustratingly whispering, She’s the one.Excerpt from Heavy

Henrietta “Henry” is Lion’s sister (first book in the Shifter Nashville series) she’s know everyone a long time, and has had a crush on Heavy forever, but she’s not his mate so she pushed him away until he left!! Why, you ask, well, she was born with a disease that was killing off her senses, until it reaches her blood, and then she’s dead!
She also knew deep down she would never be his queen (she has no crown shaped birthmark) so after he left Nashville and his friends, Henry got on with her life, but with a boar shaped hole in her heart.

“My gut twists. Because I’ve never allowed myself to dig too deep into how wrong that thought is. But I allow it then. For the first time, I dig. And I don’t find gold. I find dust. I find a lost dream. I find the lies I’ve been telling myself. And I realize how selfish I am. How much better Heavy deserves … a queen. My sobs start then, so deep and dark; it’s like nothing I’ve felt since I was young and trapped in my own mind, without any sensation to guide me.Excerpt from Heavy

And when Henry comes back to the group as a band member, fireworks are bound to happen.
Both Henry and Heavy can’t help being drawn together, so is the reason Heavy isn’t in a rush to find his Queen standing in front of him?
His clan need him though, he has to put aside his wants and needs for the moment, someone else has the same disease Henry has, but unlike Henry, this boar isn’t looking so good. What made Henry survive, when others have perished?
This book although short like the other two is full to the brim with anger and passion.
You forget it’s just a short story, but it’s filled with more than just sex!
It’s great that we see the couples from the previous stories. It also hints at the previous series, (but not so much that you feel something is missing)
Really well written, it puts an Victorian feel to the books (very much a Jane Eyre novel) but with a modern twist.
I loved the character of Heavy, he’s been with us through the last two books, very much a solid and stable character, not much irritates him.
Henrietta is more complex, thank goodness for the prologue as I would have thought it too much for a short story.
This story is the saddest of them all (and I wasn’t sure they would get a happy ending) unrequited love, they had been best friends since childhood, first loves, and confidant’s. Almost a Romeo and Juliette type of story. A forbidden and doomed love story.  With every chapter they seem to grow further apart…..
There is also the matter of becoming public to the non shifters (humans) will it be by their hand or unseen forces?
I’ve loved reading these stories and I hope Snake gets a book. I’m also hoping the cousins and roommates get their books too.
Another book I’d highly recommend.
Holly Gunn
I’m the proud momma to a golden retriever named Charlie, two tortoises named Jake and John, a frog named Toad, and a gopher snake.
The latter is my girl, Holly Jr.
There’s also the fact that I’m a thunderstorm-loving, front porch-sitting, hot cocoa-drinking, beauty product-hoarding, self-proclaimed environmentalist who just happens to write erotic romance.
When I decided to go into publishing, I didn’t just want this small business to be about creating stories that catch the reader’s attention and draw them into a new shifter world. I wanted to do something for the creatures who inhabit this world with us. I’ve always had pets. Dogs, cats, hamsters, tortoises, frogs … You name it. Although I spent a good deal of my early life in a cast because of an unusual bone disorder, I would dream from afar of riding horses and braving the wilds (while occasionally sneaking away to do things a girl just shouldn’t try to do with a broken arm, leg, or both). In college, I studied all types of animals in the Biology program I graduated from. Before college, I also did an African Safari in the heart of Nairobi. All of these experiences led to my love of wild animals and to my wish that sanctuaries stay exactly that. I want to protect the Earth we’ve been given and to celebrate the creatures we often overlook (or even the ones that we adore). Hence, the Shifter Kings series was born. And also, hence, all of this is the reason why 5% of all profits for my business will go to various charities, shelters, and sanctuaries to help support wildlife and clean habitats. I hope you enjoy this series!
T. Birmingham & Holly Gunn are the same person (so why both names on the book? Who am I to ask)
